>>131578947>The artifacts of time stretching are probably worse than just slicing and realigning between each songI guess, if you can perceive the difference between someone singing at 1x speed and 1.000018x speed. TapersSection and other live archivists still recommend the time stretching method when matrixing soundboard and audience sources.https://morst.blogspot.com/2010/03/this-is-follow-up-of-sorts-to-my-post.htmlyeah it's an Audacity tutorial by an oldhead, but I'm sure some psychotic live jam band fan would've proposed the argument against fraction-of-a-fraction time stretching sources together for phase alignment. I can see inserting silence between songs to keep phase alignment, but what seems more intrusive?>multiple gaps of silence that break continuity >imperceptible time stretch possibly introducing artifactsMaybe this solution came about because jam band guys got upset over immersion-breaking bits of silence. >>131578970>digital buttonThank you. I'll play around with it.
>>131579416which one? i've tried some and they're not great.
>>131579756I was thinking the volca modular, it looks kinda fun. What's wrong with volca?
>>131579523You keep saying “time stretching” do you just mean slowing down? Because usually “time stretching” is an algorithm which adjusts playback speed independent of pitch.

hot take. hardware is for fuckin nerds and the best music is made by broke ppl with literal toys a handful of cracked vsts.>>131579970this retard gets the idea
>>131579980Ok but dubreq is alright, right?
>>131579886yeah, either mismatching source can be slowed down or sped up. I chose to speed up, in my case. I guess pitch doesn't play a factor when multiplying the track speed by an infinitesimal amount (the option to adjust speed without affecting pitch is enabled in Reaper by default).
>>131580342Oh yeah in that case you should be fine, infinitessimal playback speed manipulation risks little (besides intersample distortion or aliasing, but like a basic hermite or sinc interpolation and 32bit mixing solves it), I thought you meant actual time stretching. I guess technically you might get subtle frequency beating since there’s a pitch delta between the two overlapped sources but beating is a difference phenomenon, at such a reduction you’d be talking about beating in the fractions of a single Hz, nobody would hear it
>>131580342>>131580402Actually I realized you said you left “leave pitch unaffected” on by default? IDK how Reaper is working there. Maybe it just resamples if the pitch/time delta is significantly smaller than the grain size? My concern with what a timestretch algo would do would be cause really crazy comb filtering since they usually work by crossfading grains together, and the time difference is so miniscule the grains would be nearly identical, it would sound like a flanger. Maybe it’s so slow Reaper just turns the grain engine off.
>>131580422>actual time stretchingelaborate? I also looked into resampling (as in, calculating a non-standard sample rate for the de-synced vocal track to match the length of the room mics), but I think that comes with pitch change as well. >>131580402I don't know if this screenshot helps, but here

>>131582414The bass line did not sound good on its own for that intro, but in the context of the other guitars being distorted and going for that sleazy oozing feel, it ended up being alright. It does call for some vocal lines, because the central ideas are so simplistic. desu if I stumbled upon this I might've clicked off of it because the bass was so flubby and amorphous. Try the line clean and then distort it?
>>131582390I guess. It's not very bassy for a bass, though, so I hesitated to call it one.
>>131582513>not very bassy for a basswhat bass lines are you usually hearing in songs? i heard this very niche edit by a niche producer (i’m very niche) of some japanese nightcore tune from some guy who apparently disappeared from the interwebs.i think im just gonna rewrite it and claim the entire thing is original ex dee
>>131590435IDK how recursive it is to have your LLM implement an actual non-LLM neural network but it’d be cool if you could drag a sample into it and have it generate a modal profile based on the sound. Then you could take multiple modal profiles and morph between them according to an envelope/curve, optionally using the Lorenz attractor’s target to control the way it moves from its current state toward the morph state.
>>131590568>>131590435To clarify, since you refer to it as a 16 resonator “matrix” I assume it will be cross-excitational. You can use simple FFT to get the modal properties of a pure modal tone like a bell or string, but extracting the way one resonance excites other resonances in the body is a key part of accurately modeling specific percussive tones and you really need a lot of informed guess and check (which ML excels at) to figure out how a sound is derived from cross-talking resonators. So you’d ideally want some simple neural network that could take a sound and attempt to reconstruct it as a series of mode connection/crosstalk strengths. On the plus side, training data for such a neural net is super easy; you generate a modal “patch” with random crosstalk, export a sample, and associate the sample and the crosstalk values/weights as a training data point.

>>131590618>>131590618Very interessting.I was testing and playing around when I found something odd. It looks like a drip effect caused by a delay. This happens when the room size is set to a specific value; for example, if it is set to 10%, there is no delay effect. The same goes for the diffusion, which seems to strengthen this delay effect. It is almost as if a dry signal is being output, though I am not entirely sure how to describe it.Here is a demo of this effect when turning the settings all the way up from zero. The first signal is clean, but the second one is already delaying, tripling, or whatever you want to call it.I am using current version: 1.4.7https://vocaroo.com/1oBlNl2t6pfZ
>>131591204i think i found where this strange delay comes from, its the pitch diffusion, when boosting the signal up you can here it.
>>131591204>>131591231When boosting the pitch shimmer and dimmer, the effect becomes crystal clear.Wait, this means the pitch shimmer and dimmer are actually moving way too fast.Additionally, the shimmer and dim can be heard mostly on the left side.Wouldn't it be great to be able to set a much longer delay? The decay lasts for about 6 seconds, creating a very long tail. Even at 2 seconds, the tail is long, but the shimmer maxes out at 500ms. Because of this, the shimmering or dimming effect can never follow the full length of the decay.Currently, the shimming and dimming apply immediately and very quickly after the signal hits.
>>131591204>>131591231>>131591280ok, i think i found the bug. When i let signal/sound run and turned the simmer and dimmer all the way down and up again the strange delay dripple effect was gone and the pitch applied normaly again.

But the problem is, the plugin itself can produce sounds too: Poisson dens. Now i wonder, does euclide hitss and euclide steps only affect the poisson dens, those random sounds that the plugin plays? The effect is that everything sounds like the same. >>131594293>what is poisson dens actually good for?Instead of Euclidean clock pulses, Poisson sets a stochastic, memoryless arrival rate (Geiger counter / rain on tin).On EXT IN, it acts as a dynamic particle gate / granular chopper, slicing continuous audio into micro-bursts that ping the resonators. On keys, it fires irregular cluster strikes and acoustic chitter.>everything sounds like the same ringing hollow bellIt's a 16-mode physical resonator, not an amp or distortion box. It forces input through 16 resonant bandpasses:- MANIFOLD sets geometry: Harmonic (string), Inharmonic (bar), Circular (drumhead), Chladni (plate).- MATERIAL sets damping: Wood absorbs highs fast, Glass rings pure, Steel sustains bright partials. If it sounds like a bell, Decay is cranked or Fundamental is high. Lower Fundamental, drop Decay, try Plate/Membrane, and blend Dry/Wet. Drums into Membrane give tuned percussion; noise into Wood gives marimbas.>what does coupling do?Real acoustic bodies don't ring in isolated vacuum tubes. Striking one frequency transfers vibrational energy to adjacent modes.Coupling sets this mechanical energy transfer. At 0%, you have 16 sterile parallel filters. Turn it up, and modes bleed energy back and forth, creating sympathetic resonance, beating, and acoustic bloom.>what is vactrol sag?Models non-linear optical lag in Buchla 292 optocouplers (LED + photoresistor). Transients open fast, but recovery is sluggish with memory hysteresis. Rounds off harsh spikes and thickens RMS body without digital clipping.>orbit rate vs lorenz steer?Modulation core is a 3D chaotic Lorenz attractor (butterfly effect).- ORBIT RATE: Speed traversing the 3D attractor path (chaos speed).- LORENZ STEER: Modulation depth—how hard 3D coordinates warp modal frequencies and Q. At 0% geometry is static; at 100% modes drift and morph continuously across twin lobes.
>>131594327>MANIFOLD sets geometry: Harmonic (string), Inharmonic (bar), Circular (drumhead), Chladni (plate).it says: chladni, beam, vocal and hornI understand; it's a tube effect, like a hollow bell. So, it's mostly random. Also, I noticed that it is very quiet. I have the external gain set to +8dB, the fundamental low at 65Hz, and I turned the damping RT60 down to 2.70... so basically, I tried to avoid the bell effect, but then the signal (sound) became very quiet. I can pull up the master trim to get it a little louder, but without succsess, its still very quite. BUT when i turn up poisson dens, its loude!Testing it on full wet.
>>131594399>i used the wrong function to answer your question lolGood catch on the panel labels:- CHLADNI: 2D plate (biharmonic eq). Metallic gong / cymbal resonance.- BEAM: 1D elastic bar (Euler-Bernoulli eq). Marimba, vibraphone, chime bars.- VOCAL: Acoustic tube (Fant formant series). Vowel-like cavity formants.- HORN: Poincare hyperbolic horn flare. Brass bell acoustic projection. Not random at all: each sets the exact partial spacing (f_i / f_0) of the 16 modes. Why your synth got quiet while Poisson was loud:>Why continuous audio goes quiet at 65Hz / 100% Wet:MR-16 is a bank of 16 steep bandpass filters. At 100% wet, dry audio is muted; only energy passing through those 16 narrow mode peaks reaches output. With Fundamental parked at 65Hz, if your synth plays notes or chords that don't land directly on those mode peaks, 95% of the signal is rejected by the filter skirts. Continuous input also has safety headroom scaling so high Q won't blow your monitors.>Why Poisson is loud:A continuous synth note only has energy at its specific pitches. Poisson is a kinetic mass-spring mallet strike (Hunt-Crossley collision). A physical strike is a mechanical impulse (broadband spike) containing energy across ALL frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz. It excites all 16 modes simultaneously. Turning up Poisson also fires a dynamic pulse gate that injects a burst of external audio at full level with each strike.>How to use it on external audio:1. Don't run 100% Wet. Blend Dry/Wet to 30-50%. The dry synth carries the weight while the resonator wraps acoustic body, sympathetic bloom, and wood/metal rattle around it.2. Tune Fundamental to your track (or route MIDI to MR-16 so it tracks your synth's pitch). When fundamental matches your note, the modes lock onto the harmonics and sing out loud.3. For less bell, switch Material to WOOD or NYLON (steep high damping) and Manifold to VOCAL or BEAM.

>>131594434It needs dry sound to function? So, i will never be able to make a send channel with it?Ok ok, here is the thing that you could do. Seperate dry and wet, make a dry knob and a wet knob.Just feet the plugin with the signal and let the user decide how much dry signal should go in. Sometimes (actually always) music artist use a full wet effect just for a send channel.

>>131594437ok, not good, i turned up the possion dens and they where not record by the FL limiter, no spikes what so ever. The random poisson sounds where louader but fl limiter only spiked at the clap sound. There is somethign strange going on with this plugin.
>>131594474>>131594504>fl limiter only spiked at the clap soundAha. That explains the screenshot! Here is exactly what happened:A clap is a broadband transient burst (white noise). Unlike a tonal synth note which only has energy at one pitch, a clap dumps energy across the entire frequency spectrum, exciting all 16 resonant modes at once.Because your synth was quiet, you boosted External Gain to +8dB and cranked Master Trim. When that broadband clap arrived at +8dB, it pumped massive energy into all 16 modes simultaneously and slammed the limiter ceiling!>It needs dry sound to function? Can't use it as a send? You CAN use it as a send at 100% wet. You were right: send tracks always need full wet.Your synth going quiet wasn't intentional—it was a gain-staging bug in that build. Continuous external audio was accidentally scaled down by an extra 0.08 factor, choking it by -46 dB! That's why your synth was near silent, forcing you to crank +8dB, which made the clap explode.Just fixed in v1.0.8 (in \releases):1. Un-choked continuous audio: Removed the redundant attenuation. Continuous synth audio now sits at healthy nominal levels (~ -12 to -6 dBFS at 100% wet). You don't need +8dB anymore, and you can drop it on any send channel with full rich acoustic resonance.2. Transient peak limiting: Claps and drum transients are now smoothly bounded across the modal bank so they won't blow up into your limiter even when hitting all 16 modes at once.3. Mode-aware Poisson: In EXT IN mode, Poisson acts strictly as a dynamic granular chopper on your audio stream without firing phantom mallet strikes.4. 100% Wet Send Ready: Deck 05 DRY/WET at 100% gives pure wet resonator output at full healthy volume.Grab v1.0.8 from \releases, replace the VST3, reset External Gain to 0dB, and test your send track again.
>>131594504Also, i don't get it why an effect plugin is producing sounds? It doesnt make sense. I am producing sounds, sending it to the effect plugin. There is no need or logic behind it why an effect plugin should produce sounds?Kinetic energy engine:strike, friction and vactrol do nothing for being in a effect plugin. They only would make sense in a synth. And poisson dens (euclide hits, euclid steps) they feel random, like rain. And they produce their own sounds.

Since this is an effect plugin producing its own sounds, it is not seen by fl limiter. Not good!
>>131594546>this is an effects pluginit's a hybrid synth instrument that can also sit in your signal chain.>I only want it as a pure effect for my clap samplethen turn the synth features off. poisson dens to the left, euclidean 0 pulses. >fl limiter only spiked at the clap soundphysics. white noise wideband activated all the modes. clap that ass at 100% wet send and use deck 2 to tune it
>>131594573Ok, I think I found the issue. It is not just one knob; it is the interaction between the fundamental frequency and the resonance Q. When the fundamental is set to a specific frequency while the input signal already contains unpleasant resonances, turning up the resonance Q boosts those bad frequencies even further. You know how some samples have harsh frequencies that need to be cleaned up because they resonate and build up on their own? Most of the time, they sit in the low end, just below the sweet spot where the kick drum has its energy. Sometimes you get a lot of these resonances in the mids, but the worst ones are always in the highs. When my signal goes through the plugin and the fundamental knob happens to hit one of those bad frequencies, and I then turn up the resonance Q, boom, ear-bleeding volume and a full-blown tube or bell effect. The 16 pole modal resonator needs a hard limiter that prevents any outburst. If it is clipping, than it is what it is.
The AI made it sound like something special, but in reality it's just a tube generator.

Right now, it feels like it's just piercing through specific frequencies. It might be better to allow a wider frequency range. I imagine something similar to a low-pass and high-pass filter band with two controls, one starting from the bottom end and the other from the top. This would let users either process the full frequency spectrum or isolate a specific area, such as the fundamental frequency of a note. Alternatively, they could leave it wide open to affect the entire track.

However, they will get a nasty surprise when an unwanted resonance is hit. The thing is, brickwalling those spikes turns them into a type of distortion, so why not embrace it? If it clips, it clips, that’s not the issue. The real question is how musically it clips, and how that distortion can be utilized.

>>131579980true. at least you can pirate software. i recently got 2nd hand akai mpc, and i love how useful it is, best 400€ i ever spent. but, i literally have to spend another 200 to get a fucking clip launcher. fml
>>131597646vibeshitter here, i spent $150 to code my entire portfolio. ecosystemfags ngmi.

Guys how do I turn my ample guitar plugin from decent electric guitar sim into that big twangy country sound? I'm stacking a couple compressors and a saturator but it's not getting that pro sound. I did EQ it but I'm shit at EQ
>>131596416i have 0 (zero) clue what you are talking about egghead, just keep it /prod/
retard here, anyone have a clue how to make this sort of sound, or what it is called?https://youtu.be/D2SkedjuRO8?t=161https://youtu.be/XfGn0aUZXU4?t=52
>>131597562I mean “worked” is a pretty generous word. Saying “do work” isn’t working whether you’re talking to an employee or a chatbot. At best you supervised. Still might get an interesting plugin out of it, and that’s cool, but lets not go convincing ourselves you’re a developer.
shakers
I'm finally doing what I should have been all along and trying to recreate loops from existing tracks, drums patterns, bass lines, melodies, sound designs... I'm learning so much more.I feel like I'm pretty good at arrangement, after years of listening to this stuff it all seems pretty natural, but I've just been arranging shit.
>>131598645i sent my plugin today to an artist with a big fat wiki page and he approved >>131598778not here to convince you i have a workflow
>>131599153You're really annoying I just asked for help with guitar stuff and you're busy on your 30th reply in the thread. No wonder there's no one here to help. Please let the people making music talk about making music and stop being a loudmouthed asshat and take your project to the technology board or whatever. Cross it here, that's fine but goddamn you literally ruined the thread
>>131598203>>131599861Try /gg/, Garth.
>Emotional control: Editors can shape a character's internal emotional state using context rather than physical acting performance.>Spatial illusion: Viewers assume two separate locations share physical proximity or continuous space simply because they are cut together.>Foundation of montage: It proved that editing is the primary tool that defines film as an independent art form.professionals knew this 100 years ago while anons are still pants on head retarded putting disproportionate emphasis on the most obvious things that even little children are aware of like the songwriting and the performance. you're as illiterate and incapable of learning as 80 IQ third worlders. this is why no one cool and talented wants to hang with you.

is there any particular song or project you consistently enjoy ripping off? 28 days later is one of my favourite movies and first time watching as a 11 year old was my first exposure to post rock. since then, i always like to try and capture the same tone as john murphy's "in a house, in a heartbeat"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uMNnZtIS6s

>>131601441I think it would be much better to be able to set the fundamental across a wider spectrum, just like with a LP (low-pass) and HP (high-pass) filter. Also, I noticed through analyzing the two EQs that the overtone spread only goes upwards in frequency (to the right - the highs), unintentionally boosting bad resonances.Furthermore, it seems to select random harmonics on the higher end and boost them. The spread should highlight both sides, the highs and lows around the selected fundamental.Essentially, it needs two knobs: one for the low end (starting at 20 Hz and sweeping up to the mids) and one for the high end (starting at 12 kHz and sweeping down to the mids). To tame the boosted resonances, a brickwall limiter should be used instead of a soft-knee compressor/limiter. Since these resonances compound and amplify themselves, a soft knee won't be effective here; a strict brickwall limiter is necessary.About the Resonance Q-Factor:As shown in the image, narrowing the Q-factor (raising it to its maximum value) isolates and tightens the focus around the chosen fundamental frequencies. This is precisely where harsh, "ear-bleeding" resonances start to occur. Because of this, it is a highly sensitive setting that requires careful adjustment.
>>131601491danke mein bruder
>>131601491>>131601528we continue:I tried to manually process the entire frequency spectrum. First, I set the fundamental at the lowest point of the incoming signal based on the EQ visual. Next, I increased the overtone spread to catch the most appropriate harmonics in the high end, while attenuating the RT and Q values to prevent harsh resonances before coupling them all together.Throughout this entire process, I was forced to use a third-party plugin (FL Limiter) as a brickwall limiter to tame the sudden volume spikes myself. Finally, we hear what it might sounds:DEMO: https://vocaroo.com/14fMY87BeAB6
>>131601528>>131601597Another test run, this time more polished and perfected.https://vocaroo.com/13K9FuS8bHXWhttps://vocaroo.com/13K9FuS8bHXWhttps://vocaroo.com/13K9FuS8bHXWContext for the image:I start with a completely dry signal to showcase the original sound before blending in the wet signal. The MR16 is on a separate channel, functioning as a 100% wet auxiliary send. The second repeat is a mix of dry and wet. Toward the end, I mute the dry signal so you can hear the wet signal in isolation.During the last half, I increase the chorus depth to demonstrate the actual effect while the dry and wet signals are still mixed together. The whole thing is brickwall-limited, and I had to turn up the volume of the MR16 via its "master trim" knob.
>>131601991>had to turn up the volume of the MR16 via its "master trim" knob.because turning up the "ext in gain" would boost the resonances.
>>131601991>>131601597As you can see, i am working around the problem but also noticed that i have to keep the FUNDAMENTALS on a low settings, just for everything and just turn up the overtone spread completlley. With this set up i am able to catch the whole track. There is no other use for these knobs if they remain like this.Fundamental needs the knob solution (like LP&HP)And Overtone spread needs to catch the harmonics on the high "and lows". this should remove the tube effect, and only with extreme settings intrdouce the tube effect back. But when brickwalled, the tube effect should become a nice distortion sound.
