The questions are:
(i) Do mods exercise to an extent maintenance of the KPOP GENERAL thread system?
(ii) If yes, what are the basics of this KPOP GENERAL thread system?
(iii) What is the main fundamental agent behind the KPOP GENERAL thread (even behind the mods' maintenance)
(iv) What is the goal in maintaining the KPOP GENERAL thread system?
Those are obscure matters...

Not just that, when an exceding number of KPOP GENERAL threads are posted, the exceding one(s) are quickly deleted (possibly by mods) (possibly not to divide the posts' flux).

most heavily monitored general on /mu/.
answered well right here:
>>131597240

>(ii) If yes, what are the basics of this KPOP GENERAL thread system?
It can SEEM that there are multiple KPOP GENERAL threads at once, but there never are.
There's only ever one (1) active thread.
All the rest are finished and falling off the board.

>(iii) What is the main fundamental agent behind the KPOP GENERAL thread
Guys who enjoy the music, the girls/groups, and the high-effort presentation and content.
And the fact that there's no politics or woke shit.

It is definitely NOT just a mirror of the Western pop industry in another location, tho.
The groups all have a ton of content beyond just music & concerts:
• many different types of in-group content
• variety shows
• weekly performance shows
• fan-meets
• "lives" (various types of livestream with and without fan interaction)
• rehearsal, choreography practice, recording session videos, etc.

Kpop is much more modest than Western artists like Niki Minaj & Cardi B, or Katseye, Sabrina Carpenter et al.

>(iv) What is the goal in maintaining the KPOP GENERAL thread system?
KPOP GENERAL culture is unique. There are poster dynamics and relationships in there that have been at work for many years, there's lingo, in-jokes, and references that are impossible to understand if you haven't been there a good while.
It's the most active thread on /mu/ by magnitudes, and it has one of the most unique cultures on les Chins, too. Without it, /mu/ would be a much less active and much smaller board.

>>131597615
>This board is a microcosm of what happens when you let indians in your country.
Naw, KPOP GENERAL has zero (0) to do with Indians.
There might be some Indians there, but not in the way you mean.
The culture over there is pretty tight and when outsiders show up and act weird or spammy, they're dealt with.

So who organizes this? You seem to be saying that it's a fan-organized, "spontaneous" system. But even if fan-organized, there would have to be an organization between these fans. And what specific fans are these? Surely not every KPOP fan on the planet participates in this KPOP GENERAL thread system on 4chan.
>KPOP GENERAL culture is unique. There are poster dynamics and relationships in there (...)
So your answer is basically "the goal of this continuous for years and organized system of thread posting on 4chan is having fun and making the site dynamic"? Like "all this system is just for fun"?

Sometimes I check the bottom of the catalog and bump some page 10 threads, and they will spring back to life. The issue is that kpop and some other terminal spammers, and the way they are allowed to spam, always takes the place at the top of the catalog on page 1, so a newbie or a lazy poster checks /mu/ and only sees
>kpop general

>emily armstrong linkin park general
>maggie roger general

A front page like that doesn’t invite discussion, making an interesting new thread gets instantly knocked down the catalog.
Everyone complains that the board is dead when the people that moderate the board are the ones killing it, they want it dead. It’s a shame, and even the strictest reddit mods aren’t this corrupt
>>
>>131598435
You might not know about reply limits if you're only browsing dead threads
>>
The problem is that for every kpop thread, the kpoopers race to make a new thread and make 3 duplicates that don’t get used. So they just knocked four threads off the catalog, even if they delete their duplicates ( which they suck at doing). And this happens every 30 mins when they need a new thread. It’s churning all the threads down the catalog and it kicks actual music discussion off the board way faster than it should be. All because of the kpop spamming. It would be better if they had 1 general thread with no post limit or at least much higher, like all the video game generals have. Why that isn’t a thing here I don’t know. It seems natural to allow webms with sound on a music board too but we don’t. Mu is really an afterthought compared to all the other boards, this board seems to be run by someone in the kpop threads and the emily armstrong schizo so that’s why it especially sucks

Everyone agrees they should have their own board. The only person who doesn’t want it is the janny that is allowing all this spam/duplicates. If they made a new board for kpop they likely wouldn’t be the mod of it anymore and they desperately don’t want to give up their power. So /mu/ suffers and dies so that power-tripping mod can keep feeling good about their pathetic life. That’s why we need new mods
>>
>>131598600
It’s all bad, stop trying to deflect the blame for killing the board. It’s the fault of the mods, for allowing kpop to escape their container and for not deleting duplicate whore pop threads. Stop fighting other anons and fight the real fight against the corrupt moderation

glad to help, brother.

a couple final mildly-interesting things:
- many times a week there are music performance shows, kind of showcases for groups' just-released songs.people will watch and talk shit in the thread together. so if you ever drop in and see posts like, "Our girls are on!" that indicates one of those shows (or an awards show, or special event) is on -- and specifically that a group that poster likes has just come onstage to perform.

- The shows are in Korea, so Korea Standard Time (KST), but posters are from anywhere so someone will be complaining that they can't stay up anymore cuz they have to work in the morning while another guy is just waking up.

- The whole culture around kpop in Korea itself is a different kettle of fish. Many elements of it -- like plastic surgery, and idols not be allowed (by the public!) to date -- are pretty fucked-up (to non-Koreans at least), add to the weird flavour of the KPOP GENERAL.

Something that I never understood is (v) why KPOP GENERAL threads are the most active on /mu/ if KPOP is not the genre most popular and active on the media in the West, and most 4chan (and /mu/) users are Westerners (mainly from the US, West Europe and Australia)? (vi) Do you think the KPOP GENERAL thread posters and repliers are mainly Westerners or Koreans/East Asians?

both, and more. plenty of people from everywhere.
and you'll see the threads never really slow down, there are active users through all 24 hours in a day.

there are bantz in the KPOP GENERAL about "worst hours" meaning that poster feels certain hours feature a certain flavour of posting that he doesn't like because that area of the world has just awoken and logged on or gotten off work.
"SEA hours" or "Euro hours" are often complained about but others will say they're the best lol

>Also, do you think that (vii) the inside language (lingo, as you said) is considerably influenced by the Korean internet culture and Korean language (or even mostly congruent to it) or not and it developed mostly from a Western internet activity?
It's mostly organic, created in-thread.
For example, a large number of idols are referred to by nicknames exclusive to the KPOP GENERAL. Outside the thread, neither Western nor Asian kpop fans would know who chimp is, or slug (both idols) or fatman (CEO of a media company). Some posters are also referred to by nicknames, and some actions are referred to by names that might be(?) exclusive to KPOP GENERAL, such as "melty".

So let's consider an equal amount of Westerners and Asians? What explains the higher activity in the KPOP GENERAL threads in comparison to threads to others themes, even other generals? Aren't most KPOP fans Asians? And even if most KPOP fans are Westerners, KPOP is not the most enjoyed genre in the West, is it? So how could a basically Western site like 4chan have all this KPOP fan activity? The maximum that could happen would be equal level of activity of both themes (genres enjoyed by Westerners more and KPOP and anything enjoyed by Asians more). But it's never fifty-fifty, KPOP GENERAL is always gigantic while the other threads are medium-small by default.
>>
>>131601240
Short answer, yes.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shill
>>
>>131602388
While this is true, the personal project threads on /mu/ have always been called shillthreads, cause embracing bad words is the 4chan way and also it was a way to distinguish them from sharethreads for pirated music.
Nobody in the shillthreads here is a Geese level marketing type, just people looking for similar minded anons

>So how could a basically Western site like 4chan have all this KPOP fan activity?
1. consider 4chan's origins
2. a) combine all the rock threads (the vast majority of threads) into one thread,
b) now combine the KPOP GENERAL, the IVE GENERAL, and the Le Sserafim GENERAL thread into one thread (which it was until relatively recently)
is the KPOP GENERAL still the most active thread?

that's how you should be looking at
"how is KPOP so much more active?" is one question
but in that case you're comparing one (or 3) kpop threads against 120 rock threads.
kpop appears more popular only because:
the interest in rock has been diluted into 120 different different threads
whereas the interest in kpop has only been diluted into 3 different threads

1) I know 2chan etc but from I remember there was a 4chan statistic of activity by time of day that showed that most users are Westerners. I don't remember very well the precise information now to be sincere. My point is that if 4chan is mostly West, then it's hard to explain it. If it's half West, half East Asia, then the KPOP GENERAL prevalence would be easy to explain.
2a) If you consider the other generals you are probably right, but the point is that all generals work weirdly too (...)
2b) (...) and KPOP GENERAL threads surpass other generals im activity by a lot comparing one KPOP GENERAL thread to one general thread of another theme.
>that's how you should be looking at
>"how is KPOP so much more active?" is one question
>but in that case you're comparing one (or 3) kpop threads against 120 rock threads.
I don't know which is more active between the sum of say 120 non-general rock threads and some 3 KPOP GENERAL threads. But even if the rock ones have more activity considering their sum, they have little organization, cohesion to one another and consistency. Rock threads are basically posted by people with zero care for other rock threads in relation to theirs and that generally reach some 30 to 50 replies when many. So yes maybe adding them together they're greater not only in number of threads obviously but also in reply count and even speed (I think not speed). But the point is that they are expectedly disorganized, fractioned (diluted, as you said) by nature; it's random people posting random threads. Now with KPOP GENERAL, it's random (?) people posting a very organized and consistent series of threads.
>kpop appears more popular only because: the interest in rock has been diluted into 120 different different threads
>whereas the interest in kpop has only been diluted into 3 different threads
Maybe rock and other themes are more popular, yes. But they (the non-general threads) are disorganized, which is the natural.
(Continues)
>>
>>131602655
>>131603163
To be true with you, every general thread works just as weirdly as the KPOP GENERALS are are subject to the same questions I'm making ITT, since the (i). The KPOP GENERAL threads appear to be faster and more consistent and I happened to post about them because another OP posted about the deleted posts archived in desuarchive and my first thought was KPOP GENERAL threads (cf. https://desuarchive.org/mu/thread/131585306), which made me open this thread just for this subject.
Order is not expected of an imageboard, chaos is. So chaos is comprehensible and ordinary to happen, and order is weird and dubious when happens.

there should just be a korean culture board. many blue boards are slow. having one loud faggot fandom suffocating everyone else is a net negative.

i say we kick out both the kpop incels as well as all the Wpop creeps
>>
>>131605249
They're literally the same thread. the pictures are different but the posts are identical
>>
>>131605376
yeah but i feel wpop creepy incels are getting left out. just wanted to add my vote
>>
>>131605384
I suspect it's literally the same posters as well

>>131605422
some possibly, i know the one hayley faggot also browses /x/ and is genuinely a braindead moron

why can't you wait until the thread is near page 10 to make a new one?

Reminder geese and k-on threads are worse

Because they are stupid and purposely want to kill outer /mu/

General threads are of obscure working

I genuinely think kpop deserve its own sub /kpop/. But that would make /mu/ a deserted place for sure.

What is needed for board creating? Do you know what happened when say a pokemon board was created? I never knew how that works here.
>>
>>131608589
It depends on the site owner whim
>>
>>131608622
But isn't there even a rule, pattern or explanation given in the creation report by the owner/admins? This site seems like a slum in some things.
>>
>>131608859
No it's on a whim

>This site seems like a slum in some things.
it's a slum in every aspect. gookmoot has owned the site for a decade now and it's been losing users year over year for half his tenure. outside of the first couple months he's never interacted with the site in an official capacity (and i'm fairly certain he doesn't come here period). everything cool and interactive moot did with the site is gone. and this attitude rolls right downhill. gookmoot doesn't care so rapeape doesn't care. rapeape doesn't care so mods don't care. mods don't care so jannies don't care. and why would any of them? the only one that gets paid is gookmoot.

he must have deep pockets and a large portfolio of other performing assets to really give this little of a shit about this site for this long.

forgot pic of /mu/'s post count/day

Interesting point.
I like that you made this thread, and like your approach to posting. Wish there were more posters like you (unless you're Ai).

daily reminder:
when moot owned 4chan it was full of child porn
when hiro bought it, that stopped right away.
begging the (disturbing) question

. . . why didn't moot stop it?
