i've been searching my area for bluegrass jams and irish sessionsthey are pretty different in expectationsthere's been a lot of singing at the beginner bluegrass jams, and people should be able to jump in without knowing songsat irish sessions it seems you either know the tune or you don't, or you have to sight read to jump ini'm finally trying to get better a reading music notation because i can't do call and response all the timei'm also trying to play against backing tracks to get used to trying to figure things out by ear, both slowly and in real timeshit's hard

Is Cello just as hard to learn as violin? I never liked how high of a register violins got but never ended up picking up a Cello

i just figured out a melody for the first time by ear on fiddle by singing the verse to the song Long Journey Home/Two Dollar Bill, which is an accomplishment for me because i'm practically musically illiteratei love this retarded instrument, it has the exact same voice range as most human voices
is it true that a bow is just as much an instrument as the screechbox?i've played on two different violins and immediately noticed the difference in quality, but i haven't used different bows before on the same violin, so don't know how it can affect the sound

i'll add that irish sessions are interesting in that tunes are often seamlessly played in a seteach tune is played a few timeswhen the leader feels like it's time to move on, they give a signal like putting their foot out or grunting
