Listening to just about every thrash album that more than like 100 people have heard in chronological order, for the purpose of creating a "top 10 of thrash" list for every year from about 1985 to 1991. ('83 and '84 get top 5 since there were less thrash releases at that point.) I'm up to October 1989 right now. People often say 1986 was the best year of thrash, but honestly I think 1988 and 1989 were better overall. The scene was fully established and a lot more fertile at that point, and while this meant a whole lot of derivative copycat records, particularly by '89, this also meant more great albums.
