The guitar only goes back and forth between the I - IV chords like the Velvet Underground & Nico, while the drummer plays the rhythm from Be My Baby by the Ronettes. I like the VU and Phil Spector and all, but to make every song the same exact mashup of the two gets old fast.

Kevin Shields specifically mentioned Dinosaur Jr as an influence on You Made Me Realise, which was the beginning of MBV's "shoegaze" sound. I'm pretty sure Kevin Shields also said he was deliberately trying not to sound like The Jesus and Mary Chain on that EP and later releases because he was tired of seen as being an imitator, but The Mary Chain definitely influenced shoegaze.

For me, it's the album where they learned to use the noise as an accompaniment to the songs rather than making it the whole point.
