I grew up with a boomer dad whose whole life was sports, hiking, and MUSIC. I liked the last two and he shared with me everything from Beatles to Floyd, to zeppelin, to smashing pumpkins, to talking heads, to pixies and a lot inbetween. He didnt know everything but he knew a lot in the music world so I learned through him and he said that Sex Pistols was THE band of non musicians that got signed with no talent just for their image and that was punks zenith. He did complement clash and Ramones and lots of bands like gang of four or wire but to him Sex Pistols was non music. Years later I listen to Public Image Limited because of my punk friend who idolized Lydon and to my surprise its not just good its very unique and inspired and achieves a sound like nothing else, one of the defining experiential post punk albums. All these years I was misled on Lydon and it wasnt just my dad that said Johnny Rotten had no merit. Anyone else have similar experiences with propaganda against musicians being so effective
>>131693389I'm gonna do this with Sonic Youth to my children, but I'd genuinely be justified because SY genuinely lack any meaningful qualities
>>131693389it took me a long time to realize just how brilliant bluegrass really was because it was always portrayed as retarded hillbilly music. the playing is fantastic of couse but it's the warm folksy lyrics and tales that keep me drawn in.
>>131693389you and your dad both sound like retards. this album sucks btw
>>131693389My dad calls them Pisslick Idiot Limited...LOL
>>131693389Public Image Ltd. wasn't just a John Lydon solo thing, Keith Levene and Jah Wobble are a huge part of why it is so great, but yeah Johnny Rotten is way more based than people realise. He was probably the most talented member of the Sex Pistols, he has an incredible presence and a very unique and powerful vocal style that hadn't really been done before. Sex Pistols is not that interesting otherwise, but Johnny saw that too which is why he left the band so quickly.
>>131694082Post good music pussy>>131693542Over the course of their career they covered so much sound its impossible not to find something worthwhile over their large range>>131694072Genres like bluegrass (or ska in my case) dont have the obvious widely agreed instant classic artist to check out to instantly blow your mind. I can find that for majority of genres like parliament funkentelechy for funk, astral weeks and after the gold rush for folk etc
