>new music is too streamlined, poppy and overproduced
>old music is too rough, primitive and dated
>chill relaxing music is not stimulating enough and doesn't have that edge
>loud intense music is overstimulating and has too much of that edge
>everything is performative and insincere meme shit
How do I get out of this pit. I really love music when I love it, but sometimes it just seems like EVERYTHING sucks

Have you tried not being a contrarian who feels the need to impress people on a Mongolian basket-weaving forum?

the guitar not being a wankfest and letting the rhythm section be the "lead section" is one of their main strengths and sets them apart from the other prog bands.

I like post-punk, some early punk, singer songwriter stuff and rock. Mostly 70's stuff, maybe 80's alternative or a little 90's. Love The Stooges, Magazine, Siouxsie and The Banshees, some of Bowie's stuff and early Black Sabbath/Nirvana/Buzzcocks, Neil Young, the occasional Joy Division/Nick Drake/Tom Waits but haven't dived to deep into that yet.

I have only been seriously getting into music in the last couple of years, I don't think I really actively listened to any music at all pre-2020

Tried listening to Geese and Fontaines DC today because I want to stop exclusively listening to boomer shit but it didn't feel "real" or something, I didn't hate it but idk how to feel about it

>not being a wankfest
not saying it needs to be a wankfest, just a bit more prog influence with interesting chord progression and less reliance on 'the sound' would be nice

I was just illustrating my feelings, but yeah obviously it's bullshit and I only listen to old music myself anyway
