>Interviewed by Rolling Stone's Kurt Loder in 1982, Townshend gave his take on Paul McCartney>Loder: What did you think of Paul's new album (Tug of War)?>Townshend: You have to ask yourself if Paul ever had anything to do with rock-and-roll. No, he didn't. I get the feeling that if me and Paul were to sit down and have a conversation about rock-and-roll, we'd be discussing two entirely different things. I know Paul's a few years older than me, but sometimes he seems like he's from another era entirely. He thinks Little Richard is all you need and I'm like 'Little Richard isn't that important, you know what I mean?'"
Paul is a showman first. that's why he loves Little richard. Pete has the showman instinct but it's secondary to composition. Paul literally shits them out then flushes them on to l.p.'swhatever example of r and r Pete was inspired by would be Little Richard adjacent anyway and also contradict whatever else he had to say on the matter 20 minutes later.
