Is touring really as grueling as musicians describe it to be? It seems pretty ordinary, if you're a musician music is your job and you're expected to perform it intensively just like bricklayers are expected to lay bricks etc. I find it funny when biographies of The Beatles explain that their 8 hour long Hamburg performing regiment was somehow exhausting

>>131828091If you're a vocalist, then yes, touring can be very grueling especially when you're traveling long hours in dry air that could impact your vocal chords, repeated stressing them through performances over the touring period, dehydration/lack of water to wet the whistle, intense vocal rest which includes staying quiet or refraining from talking altogether just so that you can perform at your next concert, not sleeping on your own bed and being at the mercy of whatever accommodations may/may not come your way and many other issues that could be enumerated. Others take stimulants just so that they can stay awake and perform. When you listen to singers or bands at the end of their tour, they sound audibly hoarse.Touring sucks the life out of you, doubly so if you're in a van and crashing on others' couches or shitty hotel rooms that eat into your income. That said, it can be quite fun as you'll meet lots of people and have plenty of stories to tell when you return home.

>>131828091I toured a fair bit in my early 20s as a session musician. Can’t say I did enough for it to be truly gruelling but the endless travelling, junk food and lack of sleep really does take it out of you. It’s even more fucked for singers though
