Is he really the greatest guitarist to have ever lived?
>>
>>131841031
Nah, he's actually pointing at the greatest guitarist of all time - (You)
>>
>>131841031
No, but he’s probably the most important
>>
I know this is bait and there are literally countless "better" guitarists but he was so fucking good
>>
>>131841075
that's a good way of putting it yeah
>>
>>131841068
Thanks, Jimi.

literally who
>>
>>131841100
I was going to do a funny post with the N word in it but I just finished a 3 day ban for "racism" for posting some way more innocuous shit on another board. Now I'm remembering how shit this website is now fuck
>>
>>131841031
he's the biggest victim of people overrating his stuff that isn't that good and underrating the stuff that is.
>>
>>131841031
Overrated, plenty of better players. There are even other blacks who were more influential.
>>
>>131841031
No
He was good for the 60s
Basically any metal player kills him
Hell modern country players mop the floor with almost anyone
>>
>>131841400
what exactly is your metric for being a good guitar player
>>
>>131841400
those nashville niggas are on another level

Hendrix was plenty good
Just ridiculously overrated
Really the best guitarists are like country session guys
When they go all out they're ridiculous but they usually don't have to
>>
Van Halen was way more influential than hendrix

Revolutionizing how it's played is the point. Metal guys and country players are virtuosic but they aren't changing how people view the instrument and the reason people consistently cite Hendrix as one of the greats of rock guitar is because he basically influenced everybody that came after him. This is like those retards that think Michael Jordan isn't one of the greatest of all time because he wouldn't do as well in the modern game.
>>
>>131841612
lmfao he didn't revolutionize shit. all the wankery he was doing he aped from blues players. his on stage theatrics he gets so much credit for was aped from pete townshend. his wah wah, fuzz, univibe, etc were aped from other players. he gets credit for all of it because he was a plant.
>>
>>131841647
>all the wankery he was doing he aped from blues players
Wow it's almost like blues and rock are intertwined. Brilliant observation, retard. Now link a few songs that you think Hendrix ripped off.
>>
>>131841612
>sheep repeats what he read online/saw on youtube
>>
>>131841804
>I'm going against the grain so I'm right by default
>>
>>131841612
Hendrix for sure didn't have any influence on shredding
>>
>>131841031
No.

DEI pick + dying young did all the work
>>
>>131841777
aping isn't stealing specific songs retard. albert and bb king, elmore james and howlin wolf were doing the exact same thing hendrix gets credited for revolutionizing long before hendrix. the emotion, the phrasing, the bending, confined in the minor pentatonic, the phrenetic high energy playing, the aggressive attack. you clearly know shit about music or guitar.
>>
Yes and no.

Certainly there have been many sins who had much better chops, but no electric guitarist before nor since has been so innovative and remained so influential. Almost every electric guitarist either cites Hendrix as a primary influence, or cites somebody who themself cites Hendrix as their primary influence.

The actual "best guitarist" would probably be Segovia or Tarrega or Yamashita or somebody else like that.
>>
>>131841906
Yeah he brought all that shit to ROCK music you dumb nigger. Good grief. The whole point is he was successfully implementing that shit in another genre. Nobody is claiming he invented any of that shit. He literally went on record as citing those guys as his main influences.
>>
>>131841962
Jerry Lee Lewis brought the piano and rhythm and blues to rock music. He's the GOAT pianist.
>>
>>131841031
There is no best. only favorites.
>>
>>131842031
Yeah I mean if you think that's an equivalent statement you're pretty much retarded
>>
>>131841122
I'm also just got back from a 3 day ban, it's rough, I don't know how will I adapt to life outside anymore. I do feel like a new man, I'm valuing life and freedom more, I'm done with my misbehaving days.
>>
>>131841612
Jazz guys were playing circles around Hendrix
>>
>>131841804
NTA but it is the most basic point. It has never been about who is technically skilled. It's about who comes up with something new.

>>131842989
so then Johnny Ramone or Lou Reed are the best guitarists, since they've been more influential for later rock
