Anyone who uses VCV rack here? How long did it take for you to learn it?
>>131868869I tried it and lost interest too quick
Same goes for /prod/
>>131868935What do you work with then
>>131869733I just use Ableton
>>131869765Ableton is a DAW, it doesn't make sounds
>>131869871It has builtin plugins that make sounds. But I also use Surge XT because I have some autism I think
>>131868869i used it for a day and also lost interest.i am already extremely skilled and fast wth more usable vsts, so i couldnt justify spending the time on it.
and honestly learning to set phases manually completely changed my bass game.i pity the sound designlets free running unison wondering where there low end keeps vanishing to KEK
first time trying to mix a double kickhttps://vocaroo.com/1eEDnx9aIa6p
is ableton 12 cracked?if so can in just install it and will my library from ableton 11 carry over?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxHJSdCxNGwhow does this have 100k views lmao
>>131869892>I have some autism I thinkreally?you're the second anon with autism that I've come across on this forum.
https://voca.ro/1o5ekCkofpaDbehold my magnum opus
>>131874193>drums are in time and groove nicely>mix is clear>everything is audible and balanced>unique idea>leaves you wanting moreGood job on achieving none of these, impressive almost. If that's your magnum opus, post something you did before it, I need to know what that would sound like.
>>131874767darn it
>>131869366Everyone left when the schizospam went to far, this is the first I've checked in for over a year
>>131870592started doing that as well, and moved things like claps/snares/crashes a tiny bit forward or backward if they played at the same time as the kick, and then I started to use a volumeshaper on every drumsound to trim them to fit the song tempo and then i started to sidechain everything to everything and suddenly my song was 120 tracks.
>>131871404>https://voca.ro/1o5ekCkofpaDit is pretty muddy, it doesnt have enough impact for double kick but good attempt>>131874193dj toenail is calling youi made this quite a while ago, was thinking of extending it just yesterday by retouching it a bithttps://voca.ro/1k6ykKsB0HFT
>>131868814YELLOW PERIL FUCK CHYNA FUCK CHINKS
https://voca.ro/1agQIIJgLjUk
after four weeks I think I have the kick sounding close to what I want
>>131876690>https://voca.ro/1agQIIJgLjUkgoes hardI'm also working on some stuff, very different thohttps://vocaroo.com/16Zgk4xSXval
>>131868869same here, I tryed 2,3 times...but want faster workflow to actually finish some tracks.
>>131875628>trackswhat are you an FL user? 120 is super low in that case
How do I add subbass to a pad/drone type sound?
>>131879460play a sub bass at the same time
Thoughts on Splice's creator tier? I mostly use the free stuff and its excellent. But I never used any of the sample things services like it use. But having more assets would be nice. I wish I could own everything instead of being part of some subscription.
>>131881775just buy solid sample packs if you’re dead set on spending money.“””subscriptions””” in >current year are a fucking scam and splice hate is old news but fully earned. the only reason to subscribe is if you’re a professional slop pusher who is fully taking advantage of that many downloads, or you have a paypig kink and LOVE burning your money
https://vocaroo.com/17MdewpKLEu4WIP atmospheric noise track
>>131881838It’s noise.
>>131881838You should definitely cut the lows on the sides, they are overpowering and make the track muddy. Also the bass is just kinda not very bassy and sounds like a layer of mud in general, maybe you should add other bass sounds to it, subbass stabs, a bass drone/pad in the background, something like that
this version of the processing was actually just a joke for me at first but i think i may roll with it.all free/stock vsts except fm8 and all my hardware btwhttps://vocaroo.com/1dqWWxv7rw8W
>>131869871You line 6 resonators in a row and a limiter at the end then loop a chord and play around with them
>>131883973And add a reverb at start with long time then freeze it
I made you a couple of songs, /prod/. Do you like them? https://vocaroo.com/1bCEYYtRe1Tzhttps://vocaroo.com/1hEEJ3hkSDKx
https://vocaroo.com/11DAZBik5mTVdropping yall into the middle of a song of mine that's very much still a work in progress, but does it get the dnb vibe right? I'm really still trying to work out the transitions between segments as I'm getting writers block
>>131883365i dig it, though i think it'd flow better if you didn't just keep the sub / bass as one note. Like at 12sec drop it down a few semitones>>131886769the first one feels very stiff, like robotic and sorta dead. I can understand the groove you're going for, but velocity automation would be very very very helpful in giving it life. The 2nd song is much better in that regard and feels nicer desu. Lowkey kinda feels like a sims urbz type of track, so i fuck with it. V city ambient
Namedrop a good sample pack on AZ with kicks/snares etc for dance music. No loops.
>>131888945wdym AZ, are you just dropping codes or something, just use rutracker or something
>>131888996audioz?
>>131889406ah my bad, eh dance music id recommend these either way>KSHMR sample packs>Ultrasonic OxygenFor specifically just the samples maybe>Xilent Powerpack 2>Anything from Zenhiser>Virtual Riot Heavy Bass Design Vol 2 and 3>Oliver Power Toolsand if you cant find any of these others well search in rutracker, really nothing elseat that point theres literally producers using vengeance essentials cause they are still good
Close or totally scuffed?https://vocaroo.com/1mOqbTassheN
>>131882833Thanks anon
>actually start learning piano>everything becomes so much easier composition-wise>you reading this won't bite the bullet because you'd rather spend time autistically tweaking your "sound design" which you also aren't studying the mathematics ofWhy do I ever listen to you people?
>>131890112Is your bass literally just you grunting with distortion added
>>131874193>fell for the drunk drumming meme
>>131891844“drunk drumming” is cool but it takes skill to actually do well and most anons don’t have the knowledge to realize it’s not just “le random human timing.”typical reddit toddlers.
>>131892041Yeah I'm just saying stick to the grid instead of just randomly moving music blocks around.
>>131891844>>131874193im curious does the groove make sense with a higher tempo? thankshttps://vocaroo.com/18iBCuE8aQxm
>>131892168No shortcuts
>>131892217what does that mean
>>131891777nice trips, no lol it's a subtractive synth
theres nothing wrong with high passing vocals up to 600hz and beyond
>>131892703>b- b- but the fundamental baka!!!fucking redditorsuse a reference and see how much low mid “””warmth””” is in those vocalshigh key extremely style dependent
>>131892795i agree
>>131872908I think the pirated version I have is 12As for the libraries who knows...
I band pass the vocals usually around 500hz, gets rid of both the low end rumble/mud and tames those nasty nasty sibilant peaks. Dial in some gentle 20:1 compression to help it sit in the mix. Great vocal sound.
I reworked this to try and make it a little more groovy:https://vocaroo.com/11IX8aq2wPFzDid you nod to the beat, Anon?
can always signal split and do multiple bands with parallel compression, I've started liking this method over EQ when heavy mastering is needed vocals or otherwise
>>131893272you’re trying too hard honestly.simplify the bass for the sections where the drums are busy or vice versa in the first half, the balance is much better on the way out
I just throw fabfilter preset on there and win lots of Grammys and money to buy lollies with
>>131893292this is the only answer. everything else is delusional
>>131893276killing your headroom
in fact i’ve never once read a lone post here and thought “yeah, that guy knows how to mix. he knows what he’s talking about”every random drop of “””knowledge””” just shows anons never know what they’re talking about. just blind leading the blind while ignoring the obvious basics and shilling their flavor of the week vsts that they pirated KEK
>>131893300no such thing in digital recording
>>131893272Intro sound design is cool, then the main beat sounds like it would be title music for a miami vice knockoff or similar, it's alright but feels dated very much like 80's artists trying to sound space-agey. Nothing wrong with that if it's what you're going for
>>131893313retard tier take as usual
>>131893300It always sounds fine to me lol. I'm not doing this to the master
>>131893331>she thinks you have to worry about dynamic range in the age of 32 bit floating point
>>131893339if you’re shooting for the retard recommended -12 or -14 loofs or whatever redditors are spouting now a days, and you don’t care how your mix sounds then continue down the ngmi path by all means
>>131893355i aim for -6 LUFS
I never even check the lufts or whatever, I just listen if it sounds good or not
Lufs are poo poo bum bum Nog Shit.
Mine always syas the volume is in dbs anyway?? idgi???
i measure my volume purely in RMS
dbs and luf shit lmao just turn it up or down at the speaker after you've done if you want it loud or quiet you dysgenic freaks headroom and loudness is the biggest grift ever next to tone wood
>>131893417youtube snakeoil salespeople gotta make their money somehow.
i usually increase my headroom by turning up the wetness of the reverb on my master track
>>131893425thanks! it worked :)
>>131893425finally a poster who knows what they're doing here
beyond LCR guitar panning is a meme. never need to go beyond 2-3 guitar tracks
>>131893458the thing where kevin shields clarified that on loveless the “hundreds of guitar recordings” was *total* and NOT at the same time lmaopeople can’t use their ears and just blindly follow the mythos of what random redditors and youtube slop pushes on them
>>131893539also the myth that billy corgan recorded 100 guitar tracks for a few different songs on mellon collie. it was a bullshit claim which was actually referring to how many takes he might've done for a single song to get the right feel and tone of the song.
>>131891722meanwhile actually elite people say that to write a good melody you should sing or hum instead of pressing keys. if you're an NPC who can't imagine the notes in your head then you'll never get very far no matter how good you get at mechanically noodling on an instrument.
use Bitwig
use Cubase
use Kyma
don't use Logic Pro
https://voca.ro/1cNjWj9QJ82Q
>>131893934not bad
im sick of my guitars never sounding bright enough yet still fucking piercing
Is it just me or are the Grouper albums pretty poorly mixed? Like very often in a song there are synths that arent EQ'd properly, there are resonant peaks creating very unpleasant listening experience. I understand its probably intentional, even novice producers know about EQ. Still, love her music but im just wondering
Learning the Kalimbahttps://vocaroo.com/1kE3K7RCWFvp
>>131895146Very nice anon, Kalimbas sound really cool when you mic them up properly like that one Tool song
>>131893811Wrong
>>131899473use your words, NPC. to come up with great ideas at a productive rate you should have a mind that natively speaks the language of music rather than doing monkey on a typewriter things with your hands like you're not even better than an AI slop machine. countless people have played instruments for decades and never gotten past the noodling stage.
>>131899983half the time you're a babbling retard and the other half you speak untold truths, it's remarkable
>>131900213>random word generator doesn’t *seem* to always be random and stupidwhy would you gas him up like that lmao
