Violator released in 1990.

Yeah whatever, it's cool AF right?
>>
>>131886795
It's pretty good. One of the better songs off the album, though I personally favor Sweetest Perfection.
>>
Halo is honestly a better song from that album
>>
what do you mean, for its time? as if contemporary music is better
>>

Personal Jesus was released in 1989.
Enjoy the Silence was first performed on German television in 1989 as well.
>>
>>131886844
That would make sense as it's an early 1990 release and singles are a thing. Didn't know it was performed live that early though.
>>
>>131886864
It's a rare case of a song being performed before even being released, but yeah, both of Violator's main hits were first performed in the '80s

Words are nary, unnecessary, they can only do harm.

The 1980s lasted all the way up until 1993
>>
The 80s had it all, baby. AUTOMATIC

>the 80s lasted from 1979 to 1993
>80s nostalgia/revivalism has been going on from 2005 to [present year]

1993 is to much. But most of 1991 still looked and sounded like the 80s
>>
>>131886976
Sure, but '91 had a good number of decade defining breakthroughs - Loveless, Gothic, Blue Lines, Laughing Stock, Nevermind. A distinct identity was forming pretty early on.
>>
[spoiler]Computerwelt[/nospoilerson/mu/] is the most timeless 80s album
>>

My favourite song off the album is Blue Dress. It's very serene and calming and I enjoy its perverted but not even misogynistic if you have a heart that is pure lyrics. The whole album rocks
>>
>>131889964
Great pick, love this album and love the shift in style in to the 90s with Songs of Faith and Devotion & Ultra, both albums I feel are as strong as Violator.
>>

Their ballads are exceptional which is a shame because they are so few and far between. It Doesn't Matter, Blue Dress, One Caress. They rank high in my favourite songs by DM.

And yes you're 100% correct about Songs of Faith and Devotion and Ultra (on first listening of their discography I preferred that era but it's been a while since I've heard Black Celebration and such)

>>131886864
sometimes, songs are even years-old, before they end up on an album
>>
>>131886747
greatest band since the Beatles
>>
>>131887058
the 1980s lasted from 1 Jan 1981 until 31 Dec 1990 in all manner of meaning

The 1980s died when these albums came out on the same day in 1991

>>131891823
but who were the first 90s band? my money's on the smiths.
>>
>>131886784
1990 is technically the last year of the 80s
>>
>>131886747
One of those songs which pretty much no one dislikes no matter how much it's played

Stone Roses
