I want to get into modern technical death metal. By "modern" I mean the 2000s bands that were all strongly inspired by Necrophagist. So ones like e.g. Spawn of Possession, Obscura, Archspire, First Fragment, etc. Generally very complex guitar and bass compositions taking the center stage with relatively clean tone and often played on instruments with extra strings coupled with pretty monotone-but-relentless drumming. A lot of classical influence, melodic breaks, high bpm, and virtuosic performances. Could you guys recommend me albums that you consider to be the most important in this little subgenre of a subgenre?

>>131892962Epitaph is the only "modern" tech death album that matters. Everything that came after it is a lifeless imitation.
>>131892962Anything by UlcerateThey are the best modern tech death band but they are more dissonant and inspired by Gorguts or Immolation
>>131893957I really like Ulcerate and I love this album in particular, but I feel like it's a very different strain of technical death metal than what I'm specifically looking for in this thread. As you said, Ulcerate is more dissonant, while I'm looking for something that is specifically in this Necrophagist sound lineage. There are a lot of other 2000s technical death metal records that I'm already familiar with, like e.g. the one you posted, Colored Sands by Gorguts, or Reign Supreme by Dying Fetus, but they approach technical death metal from a different perspective. I'm specifically interest in the Necrophagist sound lineage, because it's a big blind spot for me when it comes to tech death.
