Sorry OP, being a progwit is a nice sweet spot. You could try musique concrete if you want something that explores more non-traditional musical elements, since prog by nature I think represents the furthest exploration of the traditional elements in melody rhythm and songwriting or storytelling. Early folk and primitivism seem to often appeal to 'deeper' listeners maybe because they open a window to a time/state that is easily romanticized, but this could be said for a lot of music. I find folk music interesting because it contains much of the storytelling aspect whether in myths, made up, or personal stories I always find stories in music engaging but that might not appeal to you, I may just be an easily amused layman. Anyways sorry, you didn't even ask for any recs. What sort of music *do* you enjoy then?
