When I was a kid, a few of these eternally optimistic and cheerful types existed. They really don't seem to exist anymore in any way.

One thing I admire about him is that women had to be throwing themselves at him and yet he stayed faithful to his wife. He was very good-looking and popular when young.
>>
>>131903640
The more I listen to this the more fascinated I become with this. The teen female customer has always been relevant on the rock n roll scene. I can't imagine what its like staying humble when you have that many women throwing themselves at you.

This guy was happy particularly because he had a blessed life early on. Met his high school sweetheart. Fell in love. Had success and four children by 23. Loved by his parents and loved by the culture of the time.
>>
>>131903640
He has some underrated classics. He had such a smooth beautiful voice. Its comfy as hell hearing him these days. Sugar moon, Bernadene, Love Letters In The Sand

Its a shame he was always judged on his crappy covers of r&b black songs that were corny
>>
um, heckin wholesome alert!?

t. Pat's grandson

And anyway, he was 100% totally boosted by Dot Payola-ing his shit.
>>
The last song of Boone's to chart on the Billboard was a pro-Vietnam War song from a guy who got out of Korea as a conscientious objector. 'Nuff said.
>>

He discusses the suicide of Elvis' grandchild.

Dot had literally no good records except for those '55 Fontane Sisters hits.

He started with Country. It's crazy to me that they still gave genre hoppers that much trouble back then.

Oh.. I see Thanks

In the 50s it was pretty normal and expected for a singer to be able to record almost anything so pop singers doing country covers was commonplace.
>>
>>131907698
there were a lot of pro-war songs back then but they've all been airbrushed from history
>>
Boone was the biggest con artist of the 50s-60s next to Steve Lawrence.
>>
>>131903640
Poor Pat was a crooner born out of time. He should have been born in 1914 instead of 1934. Completely out of touch with what his peers were doing.
>>
>>131907817
I was talking about R&B and even Metal, too

>At a 1961 gathering at Pepperdine College, Boone said, "I would rather see my four girls shot and die as little girls who have faith in God than leave them to die some years later as godless, faithless, soulless communists."

Sounds like a good father. Of course a liberal would find something to hate about a godly Christian man with a smile on his face who has done only good and no harm.
>>
>>131908040
i knew a lady who used to work with one of Boone's daughters (not Debbie, one of the others). she got the impression that they were a very weird, Duggar-like family.

>Playboy's annual 1958 readers' survey of most popular male pop vocalists had Boone at #1. Frank Sinatra was #2 and Perry Como #3. Elvis Presley came in at only #5. An accurate demographic survey of Playboy readers did not exist, but the magazine's readership was said to be an affluent one.[3]

Oh no, a lady you used to work with got the ick!

he was totally doing incest with them, wasn't he?

Boone's audience was mostly fundie and Mormon kids whose parents didn't let them have Elvis records.

Billy was also incredibly popular in his day. I think he's humbled quite a bit. He has a lot of patience with the few times Pat interrupts and forgets due to obviously being elderly.
>>
>>131903640
I thought this nigga was on death's door.
but PAT WON.

I too bought into the 'that upbeat, skippy Pat Boone stuff was fake' meme.
But he seems to be the only 50's or even 60's music star who still seems to be strong and healthy and living a life worth living.
Suck on that decadence worshippers.

Nice tune ruined by Pat's narcoleptic vocals.
>>
he hasn't died yet because Hell's afraid he'll take over. much like how Mitch Miller lived to 99.
>>
>>131909903
this was covered by Teresa Brewer, though as an album track and not a single. at least she actually sounds alive.
>>
Point of information: All of Boone's hits totally vanished from airplay after the 50s were over. Nobody has heard them since.
>>
>>131903640
The parts they talk about Elvis are heartbreaking. To this day it breaks my heart his grandson committed suicide.
>>

My Italian & Native American family converted to Evangelical Christianity.
>>
>>131909798
I don't think it's fake. I think he's blessed by God and the Holy Spirit gives him internal joy. These types do not exist anymore.
>>
The good thing about Boone is that he at least didn't make a disco album in the late 70s.
>>
>>131903640
my dad saw Boone shopping at a supermarket in LA back in like 1995. mf-er was really paranoid and looking over his shoulder the whole time like he thought he was going to get swarmed any moment by fans asking for autographs. he thought "come on, Pat. it's not 1957 anymore. nobody here knows who you are."
>>
>>131911514
You could tell he's getting a lil' senile. He's 91 bro.
>>
>>131911514
Being a public Christian in 2026 after a few decades is hard in its own way. Billy admits if he told people he was Christian he would have lost money. Even in the literal 70s Boone said he lost roles over it. People make it out like you're a square which is ridiculous because nobody is perfect.
>>
>>131912274
>reading comprehension
he said 1995. Boone was only like 60 back then.
>>
>>131912300
60 is pretty old too though. And being Christian has made ME paranoid in places so its prolly a lot worse for him

actually, Pat's covers of black r and b are probably some of the most remembered songs of that era because they have been constantly cited in music documentaries etc. as whites doing supposedly inferior versions of black songs but having bigger hits (as if whites preferring white performers over other races was somehow unique to white culture and not basically universal. see blacks preferring goofy black sit-com's over better white ones because the actors are black etc.).
>>
>>131912765
Most of the mainstream labels in the 50s were addicted to doing R&B covers of variable quality. These are usually seen as memes nowadays with the exception of "Fever."
