Simple test: can you come up with an acoustic drone song that is actually interesting? NoBrain could never do it, while actual next level melodicists like Neil Young (multiple songs) or even John Lennon ("Norwegian Wood") regularly could.

Even some contemporaries of NoBrain totally mog the shit out of him. Compare Beck's acoustic drone songs like Black Hole https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZAmv-Vr220
or Ramshackle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVDaJK5Kags
against dog shit songs that go nowhere like Something in the Way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VxdufqB9zg

It's like night and day in talent difference.

Yeah but he was a tortured genius just like me

Meh

Black hole is a beautiful song. Underrated beck tune. Almost seems like a bonus track on MELLOW GOLD so I barely noticed it for years

Kurt wasnt the greatest at those I agree but he was good at coming up with teen anthems that were repetitive and catchy. The repetitive angle was something imitators were terrible at but he was able to get peoll3 singing along to the same lines over and over. Its just now that most nirvana songs are so badly overplayed now and they're boring to listen to esp stuff like Lithium or Rape Me

yeah, I give him credit for taking some hard core guitar band elements and making catchy (essentially) pop songs out of it. that was kinda new at the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6EDW5WFb2M&list=RDJ6EDW5WFb2M&start_radio=1

Kurt Cobain was a genius, and Nirvana was the greatest rock band of all time, unquestionably.
>>
First one is a Led Zep Rain Song ripoff
Second is a dime-a-dozen country ballad

While SitW is a unique song for which you won't find a model.
Not with those notes or that rhythm

It's insane the influence that kurt cobain has in music, style and pop culture. He's probably the most notorious pop icon since the 80s. Every day and every week there are at least 5 different threads talking only about him, not nirvana, him. The year will be 2060 and people will still be talking about him.

He died too soon, we didn't see his full potential.
>>
>>131907875
you won't find a model for it on record because it's a literal beginner guitar song that any sane person won't even play for friends because it's so dull.

if nobody knew it was Nirvana, literally everyone of those brainwashed nigga's who claim to love it now would be asking 'what the hell is this dog shit song that goes nowhere'?

but now it's the 'boo-hoo, that poor nigga lived under a bridge, that's so heavy' song. kek.

And here you are still whining about it like 40 years later. What have you written that anyone gives a shit about
>>
Nirvana was ok but wasn’t anywhere near the GOAT bands like Beatles or Smiths. A lot of it is the cult of personality around Cobain and him being handsome and the whole celebrity suicide thing

He was already out of ideas. In Utero was overflowing with filler. It's a good thing he an heroed when he did otherwise everyone would've realized how limited his talent was.

I literally linked to songs from the same era in the same style that were 100 times better.
it's y'all worshippers of people who die young that try to blow up a good but not great act who literally made one good album and a few good follow-up singles into Mozart.

like who you want. I mean some people think Motley Crue is the best rock band ever
which is all well and good in private, but just know you're going to get clowned if you claim the Crue or Nirvana were among the greatest in public.

Cobain made songs for the everyday people, not music nerds even if he himself was a music nerd, it's why he popular and those guys aren't.
