she made one single acclaimed solo album and had one decent album in collaboration with Fugees, why is Lauryn Hill always listed among the *great* female musicians with barely any output to speak of?
>>
>>131956870
i like the album, but i also think rating her as the best anything ever is a product of Pitchfork infinite jesting faggotry that has nothing to do with music and has irreparably damaged music discourse on the internet.
with that out of the way, who gives a shit about output? peak > quantity.
>>
>>131956870
She and her bandmates were literal propped up cia assets. All three involved in all kinds of illegal shit.

you'll have to elaborate on what you mean here lol

>with that out of the way, who gives a shit about output? peak > quantity.

The point being, flukes happen. Even a mediocre musician can put together a few great songs from time to time. A one off banger is not a substantial enough body of work to place someone in the pantheon of greatness that I constantly see Lauryn Hill name dropped in. A great artist has eras, they have sounds and influences that come and go, and that thread line can be traced and studied. I don't mean to imply a great artist needs x amount of releases, just that they can prove that their greatness exists outside of the context of a very specific time and place a singular album was recorded in.
>>
>>131956870
I only think about Lauryn Hill when you make these seethe threads.
>>
>>131957168
>flukes happen
no they don't, there's an ocean of forgettable slop that dates back to the beginnings of recorded music. it's hard to make ONE good song for many intangible reasons, let alone enough to make an album out of.
>just that they can prove that their greatness exists outside of the context of a very specific time and place a singular album was recorded in
that's like saying an athlete isn't great unless they're good at multiple sports like MJ or something.
>you'll have to elaborate on what you mean here lol
pitchfork taste = yuppie taste. just going straight to whatever makes you look the most cultured to the most people when you put it in your vinyl collection. pure, aggressive optimization of social standing.

not that i disagree but i mean does the average 4seaner even have friends to show off for?

how many great albums did the beach faggots or bob zimmerman make? according to boomers one and that was 100yrs ago
>>
>>131957339
no but it fills their desperate need to feel like one of the cool kids. it actually overlaps with the choice to use 4chan.
>>
>>131957102
>a product of Pitchfork
We're talking about an album that sold 20 million copies and won album of the year at the grammys, you guys keep overstating pitchfork's influence on everything

how often do you see these talked about?
>>
MTV Unplugged 2.0 [Columbia, 2002]
Probably not the worst album ever released by an artist of substance--there are all those Elvis soundtracks. But in the running. Full-length double-CD of wordy strophic strolls that often last six, seven, eight minutes, accompanied solely by a solo guitar Hill can barely strum (the first finger-picked figure occurs on track 10, where it repeats dozens upon dozens of times, arghh). Unlike Hill herself, who during one of many spoken-word breaks tells the adoring multitude that her singing voice has been roughed up by a late night (but not how weak it is when she gets her eight hours), the melodies do not assert themselves. Inspirational Patter: "Every single one of these songs is about me first." Makes them realer, aight? D−

>that's like saying an athlete isn't great unless they're good at multiple sports like MJ or something.

I don't see how this analogy makes any sense. In fact, I'd use your sports analogy to fit mine -- a player can't just have one great season to be considered the goat, it has to be a consistent effort put in across multiple years.

the beach boys and bob dylan have numerous masterpieces until their belt you blubbering faggot, to say nothing of their lasting cultural influence on music

They made one single acclaimed album and had one decent solo album, why is Neutral Milk Hotel and Jeff Magnum always listed among the *great* musicians with barely any output to speak of?
>>
>>131956870
What I want to know is how this is a modern liberal masterpiece when "Doo Wop (That Thing)" is about not hoeing around (women and men).
>>
>>131958111
so so true
>>
>>131958111
>why is Neutral Milk Hotel and Jeff Magnum always listed among the *great* musicians
because my four-pronged pitchfork-shaped penis goes erect when i hear it

lol
>to say nothing of their lasting cultural influence on music
the beach faggots were a forgotten by 1970 and a complete joke by the 1980s. same for zimmerman
>>
>>131958404
Beach Boys yes but Dylan had the huge mid-70s comeback and his greatest-ever tour.
>>
>>131958404
Beach Boys are considered an all time band and cum sounds is largely considered one of the goat albums you are coping
>>
>>131958428
consider my hairy cock up your ass
>>
>>131958424
middle-aged boomers that grew up listening to their slop still bought their slop in the 70s means they are good. lol
>>131958428
>Beach Boys are considered an all time band
by fag critics and elderly boomers. nobody under 75 has any affection or respect for those dinosaurs
>>
>>131958424
Later Beach Boys were popular mostly in Europe and they lost their US audience after 66.

Most female rappers suck and most of them are normally either leaning heavy into the sex appeal or dyke stuff

This is probably the closest you'll get to a female rapper being relatable to your average listener and actually being good

>>131959640

This. I wish this wasn't so, but it's just how it is right now.

Cervantes only wrote one great book, and he's seen as one of the greatest authors of all time. Indeed, most of the greatest authors are only known for a single work. You're judging artists as if they were athletes or something, "sure, theyre great but black people weren't even allowed to compete yet, Babe Ruth never progressed beyond grunge".
>>
>>131956870
She was a good rapper and singer and she was beautiful, and that's significant. Having a big cultural impact overrides not having that much material, look at the Sex Pistols.

This album art is infuriatingly ugly. It looks like it's making fun of the Aphex Twin one.
>>

After George Floyd overdosed in 2020 music publications and corporations needed an album by a black woman with political lyrics they could put in their all time top 20 lists and this became the pick. It's very much a recent astroturfing campaign.
>>
>>131966395
Revisionist bullshit. Miseducation was an instant classic.
>>
>>131966704
In the 2012 version of Rolling Stone Magazine's all-time top 500 albums list it was at #314. In 2020 they redid the entire list and put it at #10. The same list on which they suddenly figured out that Marvin Gaye's What's Going On is actually the greatest album of all time. Pitchfork went from not having the album AT ALL in their top 100 albums of the 90s list, to suddenly declare it #2 of the decade in 2022. Yeah I'm just hallucinating.
>>
>>131967482
>Marvin Gaye's What's Going On
another obscure usaid record astroturfed by obama and the jews along with thriller and purple rain
>>
>>131967482
what would be everybody's motivation to lie about this album though? nobody is forcing them to redo these lists to add blacks
