why was post-grunge so hated/memed?
>>
because it sounded bad
>>
>>131963188
They took all the wrong lessons from Nirvana.
>>
Creed is often memed on but honestly it's pretty good music with a good message and if you don't like it you are dead inside and also an idiot.
>>
>>131963188
>>131963239
i find it peculiar that all these bands were heartland state rednecks like Creed and Puddle of Mudd who nowadays do fundraiser concerts for the RNC because they thought grunge was bluff and "real" when its actual context was pretty faggy and it was rooted in PNW granola liberalism--life sucks, God is gay, women are always right all the time, etc.

Lol @ "post-grunge". Fuck off, Creed was pure 100% unadulterated butt rock.

post-grunge and butt rock are synonymous

Because people were tired of it by that point

Your dad liked it. At the same time, America was lately turning (or openly admitting to being) Atheist.
These two factors combined made many a teenage boy hate Creed and their ilk, regardless of the music.
>>
>>131963188
It was White. Jews wanted to drive Whites completely out of pop culture and replace them with their other Jews (RHCP, Beastie Boys) and Blacks.
>>
>>131963188
It was basically adult-contemporary music that didn't appeal to kids, hence why people nowadays like it but didn't when they were kids.
>>
>>131963188
Why did people hate Creed but not Alter Bridge?
>>
>>131963188
Millennial here - it was boring, it wasn't fun, and it took all the aggression, rebellion, abrasiveness, and experimentation out of grunge to make lame shopping mall music.

Consider what else was happening in the late 90s. Pop Punk was big with blink-182. There were big art rock bands like Radiohead. Black Metal's second wave was going strong, tech-death was pretty big, and hip hop was in a sort of golden age. Post-Grunge being the biggest thing on the radio and TV felt almost offensive when there was so much better stuff happening.
>>
>>131965142
Post-britpop was way better than post-grunge as well
>>
>>131963188
Woodstock '99 happened and jews realized a revolution could get started with this type of music
So then they shut it down immediately with forced Nickelback memes and ushered in the new era of degenerate (C)rap

>Black Metal's second wave was going strong, tech-death was pretty big
Nobody gave a shit about these faggot genres. You know what metal millennials liked? Linkin Park and Slipknot.

>Unidirectional god possessive "Positivist" shit and not complex enough
>God is gay

What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you even understand what Creed is about, retard?
Apart from that "Creed" had a good production engineer for the drums, Puddle Of Mudd sucked ass, in post grunge (Damn, did I use that now?) "Staind" made a pretty good stand, as well did Saron Gas/Seether, I still "Drunk drive" them for good cruise control background feels when I drink whisky to feel "something"
To understand why post-grunge was hated, you have to understand that ALL things "Post" are hated/memed because of the term "Post".
>>
Because it's grunge but somehow worse?
>>131964902
Probably because they, Red, and As I Lay Dying as bands that make christian-themed music are actually relatively good at the music part?
>>
>>131966942
Alrer Bridge aren't really Christian
>>
>>131963188
Christian rock but without the Christianity.
>>
>>131963188
there is no 'post grunge'
theres just bad wanna be grunge train hoppers
>>
>>131964902
ON THIS DAY
>>
>>131963188
almost all post-grunge was pop music dressed up as rock music.
>>
>>131965786
no, that's what white trash posers liked. You were never a metalhead
>>
>>131963466
Fuck you bloody basterd bich
>>
>>131966942
You do know Alter Bridge is just Creed with a different singer right?
>>
musically super-limited. at least the grunge bands could play.
>>
>>131973281
And they make music that isn't terrible.
>>
>>131963188
Because poor people liked it. You'll notice even nowadays these bands get trashed here or reddit or RYM or aoty bc they are poor people's music
>>
>>131965142
>>131963188
It seems like the biggest bands of their genres were so big because of exactly that - energy. Even take Led Zeppelin or Beatle themselves, everything before them feels like a stale joke in comparison. Nirvana was exactly the same. It's literally a cycle really, something new comes out, it gets commercialized and life is sucked out of it until it gets replaced by something new and authentic and cycle repeats.

Grunge was cool, but post grunge was grunge that got turned into "science", wasn't spontaneous and daring but carefully engineer and safe.
>>
>>131964902
Alter Bridge actually tried and Creed didn't.
>>
as anon said, the music is bland and shitty it's just lame power chords with no solos
>>
>>131965142
>>131974568
And it being "safe" is why it's actually popular now.
People don't want transgression anymore. They want comforting familiarity. That's also the real reason popstars are all just astroturfed children of wealthy people, because people actually want the music industry to go back to the Sinatra days of everything being predictable and unchallenging.
>>
>>131974794
>why it's actually popular now
it was popular then, dummy
>>
why does EVERY SINGLE butt metal/rock album have god awful cover art?
>>
>>131974794
>because people actually want the music industry to go back to the Sinatra days of everything being predictable and unchallenging
except back then jazz was pretty cool and edgy
>>
>>131963188
Basically removed any soul from grunge and made it radio rock for normies. Although grunge itself was pretty radio friendly, so I don't know
>>
>>131975717
and you had the whole underground blues/R&B scene. the 50s were not quite so button-down as it seems just because of a few Perry Como songs.

It took off after widespread media consolidation in the mid-late 90s, so the forced exposure of hearing "How You Remind Me" or "It's Been A While" playing on 3 FM stations simultaneously made people quickly tired of it.
Also, it was so unashamedly tasteless in its presentation, with names like Hoobastank and album covers like the OP, making it an easy target for mockery.
So basically, a perfect encapsulation of the cultural (and later financial) decline of the average American.
>>
>>131975938
>It took off after widespread media consolidation in the mid-late 90s
meh that was always the case. go back to the big band era and three NYC based labels (RCA, Decca, and Columbia) ran all of pop music. the industry during the 70s also consolidated in LA. there just so happened to be a fluke 20 or so years in the 50s-60s when things were decentralized and there were lots of regional labels.
>>
>>131976000
ask you why stuff started to go to pot in late 90s right when Millenials start becoming the main audience for music.
>>
>>131976000
Right, I'm not saying it's unprecedented. But the flattening of the entire media landscape was more complete following decades of deregulation.

>>131976116
People consume what they are given.

>ask you why stuff started to go to pot in late 90s right when Millenials start becoming the main audience for music
die, zoomer
>>
>>131976000
meh...people have it too good today and don't grow up in dirt shit poverty like prior generations
>>
Alter Bridge is the non-shit version of Creed
>>
zoomers talk a good game when the best they had to offer musically is Sabrina Carpenter and 2Slimey
>>
>>131976306
Sabrina was born in the 90s though she would almost be more of a late Millenial?
>>
>>131963188
it was the last vestige of white boy soul in music
>>
>>131976405
That's weird, because it was all utterly soulless and stunted music.

Most of Creed's stuff sucks but their big hits are really nice. Don't remember the name but the song about his child being born is really nice

That's exactly what the industry wanted. Controllable bands. The original grunge movement was too problematic. These bands actually believed in something. Retarded left wing politics, but it was something. They wanted bands that they could control. Not ones that would boycott Ticketmaster like Pearl Jam. The late 90s were the perfect time for the industry to do this since the original grunge bands were basically defunct. Nirvana was dead. Alice in Chains fell apart because Layne became a total drug addict/recluse. Sound Garden broke up. Stone Temple Pilots were dealing with Scott Weiland's drug shit, so they just manufactured their own "post grunge" crap since the public wanted more grunge and the original bands weren't giving it to them. Of course there was a big backlash because most people saw how soulless these new bands were and they were on the radio 24/7
>>
>>131975866
Imagine another timeline where Staind never had Fred Durst tell the vocalist to clean-sing more, never sold out to mtv, and managed to actually last longer as a numetal band than they did as radio rock sellouts.
>>
>>131976967
>That's exactly what the industry wanted. Controllable bands.
so same as it always was outside the late 60s and early 90s
>>
>>131976967
I do agree that they wanted more controllable bands but it probably had more to do with the fact that the singers were all enigmatic drug addicts that wasted money and fucked up billings all the time.
>>
>>131977027
I agree and we know Journey were once called "a floor on the Columbia office building."
>>
>>131977027
It happened since the beginning of 50s R&R when they all went to jail/married underage relatives and other shit so there was an interlude of several years with safe, controlled teen idols and girl groups.
>>
and beginning with disco, the industry tried to shoehorn everything into that dancepop aesthetic
>>
>>131965142
yeah but it was just a handful of hits
>higher
>with arms wide open
>photograph
take all buttrock combine it and you still don’t have as much radio play as
>you are beautiful by aguilera
>it’s my life by bon jovi
>beautiful day by U2
which were truly inescapable.
>>131963375
yup mu has been confusing post-grunge and buttrock for a while now because of the dumb narrative that nirvana led to it. this is what post-grunge sounds like:
https://youtu.be/Wk4UgqEmgmY
https://youtu.be/S6JXhMqZMnI
>>
>>131977027
except there was always a grassroots revolt against corporate music until the buttrock era and then there ceased to be any more resistance to it
