Why is Gen Z obsessed with the mid 2000s and early 2010s?
>>131990228Same reason Millennials were obsessed with 60s and 70s rock music, get over yourself anon
>>131990228Please stop spamming yourself you retarded freak
Why is /mu/ obsessed with zoomers
>>131990247>yourselfLex has a BNM from pitchfork and opened for Geese and John Maus. She's moved beyond this place. How about yourself?
ive said this so many times and no has backed me upbut basically, millennials had most of the internet to themselves. gen x was either not on it at all or kept a sizable distance form millennial spaces. in the 00s the internet was mostly by and for millennials. then zoomers came along but millennials didn't back away, so zoomers had to share the internet with an entirely different generation. this obviously meant that a lot of the 'main character' moments of the 10s were stolen from zoomers and went to millennials instead. sabout it
>>131990267A tranny nepo baby who’s part of the whole Walmart family can move past things that most people can’t due to money? Must be nice Lex.
>>131990247spbp
>>131990228typical of kids growing up to explore the culture of their childhood they had no access or stake in, they realize their current culture is whack and decide to cannibalize the previous culture as if it was their own, I grew up with bands re-hashing 90s rock music and now they're getting big and kids are ripping them off, this person sounds annoying tho so I'll be avoiding their music at all costs
>>131990267>Pitchfork BNMGood lord, is this 2009 anno domini? Who cares? This kid is a lolcow on twitter who's famous for being a scenester and getting molested by John Maus. When their music got viral everyone made fun of it, the end. That's as far as Lex Walton is gonna go. Get over yourself
>>131990228Those were when 2 different mass cultural movements peaked: 2000s/nu-emo, and hipsterismThere were no other subcultural movements of note and intrigue punctuating these periods, and nothing praiseworthy has existed for their adulthood
>>131990302Haters dont get it, its the future of music right here right now
>>131990276You’re definitely underestimating Gen X’s presence on the Internet.
>>131990228I don't know but can you shut the fuck up about it already
>>131991176i don't mean to say they weren't online (though gen x at the earlier end is definitely not online as much), but that they had different spaces separate from millennials, while millennials and zoomers largely inhabited the same spaces. and yes i don realize by the 10s everyone was online anyway, but that doesn't invalidate the key point here
>>131990228They’re like the machines in Nier: Automata trying to recreate Shakespeare. They have no souls and look upon past civilisations of soulful art and try to copy it.
>>131991207nah, we millenials had to share with gen-x'ers more than you had to share with us
>>131991277you know what? i'm completely wrong and you're completely right
>>131991292(actually, the gen-x'ers had to share with us)theyve been doing such a good job at not giving a shit and keeping a low profileyoull easily overlook them over the much louder and more pompous boomersgen-x'ers did all that alt- and extreme-metal, grunge and nihilistic fight club shiti'd say im glad to have them as my "senior officers," but theyd probably call me a fag and tell me to "fuck off, kid"and thats some tough love(but it is love)
>>131990228Because we grew up there
>>131991328so what's your theory to explain OP?
>>131991341nostalgia, id guessi had a phase in my mid-20s, where i was obsessed with the 90si finally laid that to rest when i found my local countries equivalent of NOW THATS WHAT I CALL MUSIC singles compilationit took me forever to find this againhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyhk4iAN04Mthey are virtually unknown in the USbut they were a hit in the 90s in europe(but everybody is ashamed about it)
>>131991362mate i'm not so sure every millennial was that into the 90s. i'm 36 and actually disliked the 90s compared to the 'futuristic' present that i was living in at the time. and i think a lot more people felt the same way, at least when held against this zoomer fixation on the 00s. i don't think nostalgia neatly explains everything unless you're going to make the claim that it only applies to some people (at which point, who the fuck cares at all?). there is also the whole 80s trend and the 80s were kind of popular in the 00s too
>>131990228What a shitty, ugly little cretin.
>>131991372fair, you're right, it is/was an isolated phenomenon, in my casestill, i think it is, in fact, nostalgia
>>131991372>there is also the whole 80s trend and the 80s were kind of popular in the 00s toothat was the gen-x equivalent of nostalgiathat we millenials collaterally were affected into
>>131991395maybe trivially so, but that's not an explanation so much as it is a label. 'injury' doesn't explain why your arm has been cut off, for example, it's just a label for the situation. there is a difference between diagnosing a situation and explaining why the situation is happening.because, basically, any consideration of the past can be explained as 'nostalgia' inasmuch as it is a backward facing mentality wrt to time. it doesn't explain anything
>>131991425it's always a twenty year offset
Because the 2000s were fun and very expressive, be it emoslop or danceslop or whatever now all you get is ex boyfriendslop.
>>131991444consider the following

>>131991461consideredand now?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SBgK82AFsM
because millennials are constantly whining to zoomers about how much they missed out
>>131991498live with the implications, give feedback, ponder your future birth
>>131991511And what exactly have zoomers got to experience?
Even Gen Alpha is less pathetic than Gen Z was, I see gen alpha kids outside all the time now on e-bikes while Gen Z is still a bunch of terminally online losers
>>131991621Gen Alpha seems more “free range” than millenials were even. I think some millenials are correcting the helicopter parenting some of us received in how they raise their kids
>>131991663Alphies can't even read. They literally can't read.
>>131991663>I think some millenials are correcting the helicopter parenting some of us received in how they raise their kidsI can see that, I can also see millennial parents being more strict about things like social media use because they saw firsthand how damaging it can be if you're young
>>131991667I would take my parents letting me ride my e-bike wherever I wanted over reading Harry Potter or some gay shit any day of the week
>>131990228>”the scourge of millennial nihilism”Holy fucking cringe overload. What fucking world do I currently live in….
conflict is not abuse
>>131990244>Same reason Millennials were obsessed with 60s and 70s rock musicthey weren't though, lil zoom zoom
>>131992219They were obsessed with the 80s and 90s
>>131990267>and John MausBut I thought he was a chud......the betrayal.....
>>131990228they want to live in a time when chopping off yout cock and destroying your body with the opposite sex hormones was ridiculed and not even an option, to live in a dreamworld where they wouldn't have made a life ending mistake. the worst thing you could do after reading hipster runoff was download a shit mp3, a far cry from chemically castrating yourself for social media likes.
>>131990228The 2000s is an overrated shit decade desu, i feel like the early 90s were the last time where all media peaked and where it felt good to be alive.
>>131991176Don't worry, there's always some Gen Xfag online talking about how Gen X was unique and totally badass. They're not self absorbed fags, so that's why they constantly remind you how cool they were.
1999 zoomer hereMillenials were always viewed as cooler and hip until recently when /pol/tards who came of age during 1st Drumpf term in office turned 20 and millenials started to be viewed as cringe soib0ys who get pegged by their gfs and had same sex experiences.
Im dressing like a early 2000s rapper for halloween

>>131993561Millennials supporting Trump ten toes all in like they did is just going to stain their generation forever.
>>131994068Millennials voted for Clinton, then were pretty evenly split in the next two Trump elections. Anyone supporting such a jackass will carry that stain, but as far as a whole generation, that one's not on millennials.
MILLENNIALS KEEP INSISTING THAT ZOOMERS ARE "OBSESSED" WITH SOMETHING MILLENNIAL.they're not.get over your balding selves.
Psy-op thread.
You really don't pass, my man.
>>131990228Early 2010s is a childhood nostalgia thing for me. The mid 2000s I don't know.>>131990276>no has backed me upnot many people have said it. The late 2010s to now has been chaotic because we've had to deal with the backlash of two generations fighting by sharing the same space, at the same time, competing in the same youth culture spaces. To Millennials it's like an invasion to us it's like moving into the spaces you idolized. >with an entirely different generationWe weren't different until around 2017 - 2020. At least from my limited memory.>this obviously meant that a lot of the 'main character' moments of the 10s were stolen from zoomers and went to millennials instead.I think it's more the fact that the media environment is no longer strictly controlled by the big companies. Everyone is in the rat race with everyone. People obviously bot their shit or use clippers and crap like that but everyone who's a child, teen, 20 something, 30 something, 40 something, 50 something etc is uploading and contributing in the same space. competing for the same pool of Spotify revenue, competing for eyes on YouTube, TikTok etc. I feel like we have failed to compete with Millennials in the media space if you want to look at it from a generation war perspective. I think there is a lot of structural (the infrastructure of the social media platforms being used) and cultural problems that are prevalent in my generation that lead to this but you just have to accept it for what it is imo. It's hard to really push against certain structures when everyone is decentralized for communication but centralized to getting their shit from TikTok and Instagram.>>131991176Local 58Ratboy GeniusThe Annoying Orange creatorthey are definitely around. >>131991277bullshit imo. >>131991328>i'd say im glad to have them as my "senior officers," but theyd probably call me a fag and tell me to "fuck off, kid"My father doesn't have a bone like that in his body.
If you understand that millennials are just boomers 2.0 and it becomes more apparent every year all of this makes sense
>>131991667grow up. spiteful manchild >>131991617I've made the most of it>>131991621>waswe didn't die>>131991663I've been seeing it in the streets as well and I'm kicking myself. It's inspired me to move off the internet and start doing the shit I should've done earlier. I've confronted my parents on it and they get upset saying they let me go outside and get stuff or that I went to school by myself but there was still something wrong there. I wasn't on my bike in the streets in the way these kids are. Either I didn't have the ambition or I mentally thought I needed permission. Great parents but there was definitely something missing from my childhood that fucked me up in the long term.
>>131994545We've got people in Gen Z already going after Gen Alpha.
>>131994548>we didn't dieYou never lived. You aren't even human in any way that matters.
>>131994306The late 2000s and Early 2010s nostalgia is inherently that though. Same with the Y2K fashion bullshit. It's deliberately trying to be Millennials it just is Millennials.
>>131990228it's the only way they can feel something real
I think we should genocide all zoomer males and breed a replacement generation with zoomettes. They don't want to fuck zoomers already so should be a piece of cake.
>>131994585>You aren't even human in any way that matters.Demonic gaslighting. Just another Tuesday on 4chan.>>131994585>You never livedI've got a degreeI've partied several timesI have a fulfilling life with my family and friends (some of whom I've maintained for 16 years)Went to plenty of Uni clubsI've just started going to bars by myself and talking to strangersI've travelled around the place with my familyI've been radicalised by both commies and nazis and been sent through wild rabbit holes (political or not) in the most depressing cultural period in modern history.I had a failed music career.I have a failed YouTube meme channelI played a live gig in a band comptetition program.I got sextortedI managed to do (failed) voiceplay with a woman on snapchat and discord.Proper sex and Romance is all I'm missingI'm not falling for this shit.

>>131994670-_-
>>131990228because that was our childhood. also the reason that millenial-worship bs like the hellp or the dare or whatever gets press is because music writers are still the same elder millenial fags that were writing 20+ years ago, so they chose to write about things that remind them of music from 20 years ago.
Generation wars are a psyop just like identity politics. Everyone in this thread is stupid. Lex Walton sucks ass. (You) are gay and retarded
>>131994686>millenial-worship bs like the hellp or the dareBoth of them are Millennials though. There are plenty who aren't though.>because that was our childhoodtrue
>>131994694Every millennial trots this line out when they start getting criticized.
Millennials and Gen Z aren't that different from each other by any relevant metric. The only real generations are Boomers, people before Boomers, and people after it. Everything else is pop sociology for people in marketing. Grow up you fucks
>>131994707I was born in the same year as the retard fundie pictured in OP, try again faggot. Maybe in your next life you won't be this much of a ragebaited goy
>>131994723whether you grew up pre- or post-social media is a huge difference thoughbeit
>>131994743Look around, social media was not even a figment of an idea when younger boomers, Gen X and elder millennials grew up, yet they're still just as manipulated, addicted and behaviorally forcefed by it as any zoomer. It remolded them as much as it might have molded us.
>>131994707That's everyone dude
"Leveling is a social process in which the uniqueness of the individual is rendered non-existent by assigning equal value to all aspects of human endeavors, thus missing all the intricacies and subtle complexities of human identity."
>>131992219Yes they were, Millenials all listened to 60s and 70s music. There was a big 70s revival in fashion in the 2000s and campus always had 60s mod night and British Invasion type party themes. With some millenial hipsters into 80s new wave stuff but that was more rare. People are interested in the time period before they were born and often imagine it being better than their own. Music also seems to just get worse as the generations go on, lots of reasons for that.
