He can still keep trying. If he hasn't made it by 32-33 then he can give up. No good musician has ever made it past that age

hey guys a little positive affirmation for everyone interested in the subject of “making it” It’s operating under false pretenses. Ultimately skill and luck play a factor in anything, but artists backed by labels get there through unconventional means outside of the working class social hemisphere. Basically you can’t “make it” by conventional or orthodox means, which basically equates to having a lot of power in your community, (usually by drug or gun connections) and also being incredibly dangerous. You become a target in more ways than one, and ultimately nothing about your life is private or off the table at any point. The idea that you could magically become rich and famous through sheer talent alone was always an American dream facade perpetuated in the era of nuclear energy and anti-communism. Make art for yourselves, for your own sake, as a hobby or a passion or something to channel your own inner world into. Not to be rich or whatever the fuck. It’s not even close to worth it anyways.

he actually became quite good and i was very impressed the last time i saw him play (he will never make it)
I've know a lot of people who did make it and what they all had in common was simple: it was instant and obvious. I knew people who would try so hard for years to get people to listen to their shitty band and I heard leon bridges play his guitar at a bar once when he was just a guy i knew and it was instantly obvious that he was another level. it's OBVIOUS whenever you are truly superb enough to justify a real audience and not just pity praise from your friends. Talent isn't like some hard thing to spot, if you're good you will be found. there is financial incentives for many people to find you and make you famous if you really have the goods. it's fine if you just like to play go ahead but don't delude yourself that your going to be famous with elbow grease and hard work it doesn't work like that.
>>131993134Why would I go to school with a 29 year old?
>>131993134If you're expressing yourself and enjoying your instrument you've already made it.
>>131995462a few bands from my city made it and one of them was a one hit wonder that everyone thought sucked before they were famous
