Album - Ride the LightningSong - Creeping DeathBut really the first four albums are all fantastic in their own right, with enough of a distinction between them that they're all equally great for their own reasons. Ride the Lightning is the thrash sweet spot for me. Though KEA is 'purer' it lacks the flourish. Puppets is peak speed and Justice is their songwriting pinnacle. People like Black album but I really don't care for it. It's a total genre swap. They became a totally different band and there were way better offerings in that stadium metal space than that. Yeah, it was commercially fucking epic but I just don't care for it (apart from a couple of bangers).

Rocket From The Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream is better than any Metallica album. James feels the same.

Anyone saying anything other than Lightning, Puppets, and Justice should be ashamed of themselves. Metallica is a slam dunk. There's no way anyone with any taste could get this question wrong. Three great albums, one or two decent ones, then a LOT of CRAP. I just bought a new car and it comes with Spotify and I've had it on the metallica station. Man. EVERYTHING they did after Justice was just one type of dogshit or another. A few of the songs are passable I suppose. But it's crazy how you can hear every album is them jumping on whatever the current metal bandwagon is. S&M is them trying industrial metal. St Anger is getting in on the double kickpedal type metal that was going on then. Everything is just a metallica version of whatever is popular at the time, and it's all pretty damn bad.
>>131998996id say st anger is them trying to really find themselves in a new way and not be of the moment.

>>131999039It could be, I'm not sure if that is even the album I was meaning. What do you think they were doing?

>>131995651hard call between sanitarium and master, as a favthe brilliance of sanitarium is often overlooked, because its one of their ballad-y onesfade to black was my fav growing up as a teeni also keep confusing the opening solos of fade and saninot sure if kirk got lazy, or thats just fits best, and it happens to sound eerily similarmaster is... a masterpieceone that sound great, if its running casually in the background or has your undivided attentionits not often an 'epic' song manages to both be epic but also remain casual-friendly
