I don’t get it. I’ve tried listening to some shit from the /classical/ doc and it’s nice I guess, but none of it has really stuck with me. The only classical/classical-adjacent music that’s ever really blown me away is modern shit like Arvo Part, Colin Stetson, and Glenn Branca. Am I missing something?

A soul.

ok rec me some classical for soulless husks
>>
>>132004456
Prokofiev.
>>
>>132004323
The issue is that you are expecting classical music to sound good listening at home or through headphones. In order to truly enjoy classical music, it is necessary that you listen in a real concert hall with a professional symphony orchestra.
>>
I like Dvorak
>>
Start with Vivaldi. Also learning a classical instrument will help you appreciate the music more
>>
just listen to more
>>
>>132004570
understanding what counterpoint is really helped me appreciate Bach more
>>
>>132004323
You play classical music improving your keyboard skillls instead of listening to it
>>
>>132004323
You mentined that Glenn Branca blew you away, here are the composers that blew him away:
- Krzysztof Penderecki (St. Luke Passion)
- György Ligeti (Requiem)
- Gustav Mahler (Symphpny No. 9)
- Anton Bruckner (Symphony No. 7)

Nah. Modernism and Post-Modernism are peak.

Being able to listen to a piece of music for a long time (i.e. more than 4 minutes, and isn't a dance track with the same bar repeated 862 times for 25 minutes to dance to while on drugs) and actually listen to it without doing something else, is a skill that requires practice to get into, a bit like reading for pleasure, another skill most people can't do but could if they put in the time to hone it.

Just trust that yes it is at this moment 2deep4u, but it can be a temporary failure if you're willing to persevere.

I’ve listened to pic related the whole way through and deeply enjoyed it so I don’t think my attention span is the problem

Are you a moron or did you not read that he's into minimalism? You /classical/sharters are always huffing your own farts.

>>
>>132004963
He explicitly mentioned music with the same bar repeated 862 times for 25 minutes.
>>
>>132004986
I don't think someone with a low attention span can appreciate the subtle changes or concepts of most minimalist pieces.

>listen to "20 CLASSICAL HITS EVERYBODY KNOWS"
>let the autoplay run for an hour or two
do this for a week
>recognize "I LIKE THIS PERFORMANCE MORE THAN THAT ONE"
>congrats, you are now a fan of classical music
and then, depending on your level of autism, the rest will follow suite
>>
Listen to my gay nigga Tchaikovsky, he's pretty accessible. If you don't at least like the Nutcracker idk what to tell you
>>
>>132004570
just listened to The Four Seasons, Summer is sick as fuck. thanks for the rec
>>
>>132004323
Name a genre or even better a band/artist you like and I'll help you out
I'll recommend you a classical piece that's close to what you expect
>>
>>132004323
only way to find out is to actually look.
i'm listening to hundreds of composers in chronological order in order to form a taste.
i believe there's something for everyone, there's just too much stuff by very competent composers for there not to be something you'll like, but there's also just a lot of stuff overall so you still have to find it.
>>
>>132004323
Classical has so many different movements and traditions that saying you don't like it is retarded
There's a huge difference between Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette and Prokofiev's Love For Three Oranges, which are comedic works, with Verdi's Requiem and Carmina Burana which are dramatic, with all of Beethoven's symphonies, with Night in Bald Mountain, with Peter and the Wolf, with Mozart's Magic Flute. Not everyone needs to like the dramatic long works, a lot of people stick to Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 or Rondo Alla Turca or whatever Looney Tunes showed them when they were kids
>>
>>132005322
I mean there's so much famous music which OP absolutely knows, you don't even need an album
The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, the March of the Swiss Soldiers from William Tell's Overture (really the entirety is great), the Overture/Infernal Galop from Orpheus in the Underworld, In the Hall of the Mountain King and Morning Mood from Peer Gynt, the Cinderella Waltz, the Blue Danube Waltz, Trisch Trasch Polka and Unter Donner und Blitz, Danza delle Ore (Camp Granada), Hungerian Rhapsody No 2, Hungarian Dance No 5, Rondo Alla Turca, Moonlight Sonata Mvt 3, Beethoven's fifth and ninth symphonies, Entrance of the Gladiators, not even getting into opera with Votre Toast/the Toreador's Aria from Carmen or La Donna E Mobile from Rigoletto
It's a matter of just starting from what everyone knows and likes, I don't know a SINGLE person who has literally never heard a classical tune

thats all correct, but most normies will not be able to name them

like i said, when you start saying things like
>no, this tempo is too fast
>the sound seems off on this record
>the choir has a different texture
>the 3rd violin players third string is slightly detuned
you're a _real_ fan

>thus spoke zarathustra is my favorite
normie who knows the title
>the opening of thus spoke zarathustra, 1973 karajan and berliner philharmonic, is my favorite
classical fan (and autist)

thus, without further adue

Yeah. Vivaldi and most baroque music is pretty accessible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow1JCy0D3CA. I would actually advise against this recommendation >>132004718 as Mahler 9 is 90 minutes long, I'd stick with shorter pieces if you're a beginning listening. Stay away from opera and Wagner especially
>>
>>132004323
Try Shostakovich and Berg, they are modern but at the same time contain a lot of the traditional language, which can help you as a bridge.
Also just try Vivaldi and Bach, you can't not listen to them

There’s not really anything to “get into.” Classical “music” was invented for a specific purpose - to keep European aristocrats placated while they digested their dinner. If that doesn’t describe you, it simply doesn’t have anything to say to you.

I agree. It's interesting to experience it live. That also goes for the opera. I don't think I could stick through an entire Wagner opera but I went and saw a performance of Das Rheingold and it was... sublime? I don't know how else to describe it.

I tend to listen to it while driving. There's a good classical music station where I live. And sometimes while doing chores, cleaning up, and things like that.
