i interpreted it as a quote that doesn't specifically have to do with music but just about life in general. i think he probably just blurted it out in the heat of the moment but silence is indeed very important in general everyday life. not every void needs to be filled with something. silence, and by extension boredom, is where a lot of creativity comes from. when your mind can wander to different thoughts.
