Do you still listen to any of your local radio stations?
>>
>>132025091
lol fuck no. i hadn't listened to the radio in 20 years and the last time i turned on our local "nu rawk" i heart radio station they were playing scott stapps new butt rawk single
>BLAAAUK BUTTAHFLYYYYYYY
i mean goddamn, you know boomers are retarded but still
>>
>>132025091
I always regret turning the radio it's so fucking bad
>>
>>132025091
in my city there is station that only plays classical and that's the only station i could listen to
one time i travelled to a beach and there was a radio station that only played bossa nova, it was so great. too bad nobody said the name of any song
>>
>turn on classic rock radio
>plays a couple of the same shitty overplayed songs
>5 minute ad break obviously targeted towards boomers
>>
>>132025091
I listen to the local classical station after work sometimes because the conductor of the local philharmonic has a segment where she explains and introduces classical pieces
>>
Radio is slowly dying
>>
>>132025091
There was an oldies station that played 50s and 60s music, mostly rock, and never had any commercials probably because barely anybody listened to it
They got rid of it a few months ago and now its reggae garbage
>>
>>132025091
NO
>>
>>132025091
No but I manage a restaurant and one of my cooks blasts a mix of what you get on rock and pop stations so I get it.
>>
>>132025091
>still
never did
>>
>>132025091
Yes. The NPR music station is decent. The fantastic college station has a crappy signal, but I can get it for about half my drive. There’s an indie station that plays everything in blocks. About 80 percent of the time it’s some genre I don’t care about, but the other 20 percent, it’s excellent.

All the others are awful and if you listen to them you’re a moron.
>>
>>132025091
no. I listen to SiriusXM when I drive my gf's car
>>
>>132025091
yeah I find it comfy
>>
>>132025349
This reminds me of the Denver classical radio. They always talked about the compositions and had specific days for specific composers. Super comfy
>>
>>132027684
Nah it's Buffalo, WNED
>>
>>132025091
Fuck no, it's either the same shitty overplayed garbage rock/pop or the least subtle WOMAN GOOD MAN BAD propaganda ever broadcasted
>>
WCBN Ann Arbor

Schizo free-form college radio. Japanese pop one hour, then traditional german marches, then electronic house music, then gospel, then indians chanting, then underground punk, then bluegrass, then French ballads, and on and on.
>>

>just piles of garbage nobody wants to hear
so pathetic
>>
>>132028048
Yeah the faggy spotify playlist you send to girls at your middle school is so tuff in comparison
>>
>>132025091
My local stations haven't been worth tuning into for years, and I rarely browse internet stations since I started playing my music offline, but it is a shame to see radio fall as far as it has. I used to enjoy catching up with my favorite presenters who have either died or retired. Whereas now, people just aren't as enthusiastic on the air because they know they're working in a dying medium with dwindling audiences.
>>
>>132028135
i resent that remark
rescind it immediately
>>
IheartRadio has ruined radio. They only play the same goddamn songs over and over again all day
>>
>>132025091
I live outside of major cities. I get a country station and a top 40 station. The hosts are never local. They give me no reason to listen so I do not

Pretty sure I must've listened to something in the time since, but last thing I recall was Radio Free Hawaii which went off the air in 1997 ... that was only like 10, 15 years ago, right? Right?)

Figured some people might've uploaded to Youtube tapes they recorded off the radio, but not really. Best I can find are playlists of what would've been playing.

Programming was dictated on by listeners. Some stores around town had ballot boxes where you'd list the songs you wanted to hear and they'd tally the votes weekly.
