When did you realize that jazz is the highest form of music and everything else is just inferior simpleton slop not worth your time
>>
You mean classical
>>
>>132029303
Classical is nice but it's too structured and predictable. In jazz you have to be able to improvise and do so in a way appropriate for whatever mode, key or harmony is playing underneath. It's the highest form of musicanship to be able to improvise accurately over a highly complex musical context
>>
>>132029318
I like improv that bridges classical and jazz, personally
>>
>>132029318
jazz musicians mog in improvisation, classical composers mog in, well, composition.
i think the latter is more difficult.
>>
Get back to me when you can write an actual song. Nobody gives a fuck about your virtuosity. Music that is pure improvisation is just musical masturbation.
>>
I could never listen to music created by a man who looks like he was grown in a CIA test tube

the highest form of music would be improvising a different 10/10 classical concert every night

Music doesn't have form, hence why it isn't art.
>>
Jazz is certainly the key to unlocking really beautiful, intuitive harmony in whatever sort of music you are making. After being a rock guitarist for 15 years I spent three months studying jazz and my skill with my instrument as well as songwriting ability progressed as much as they had in the previous 10 years.
>>
>>132029318
so you don't understand classical. why use so many words to say that.

improvisation can be fun when playing with other, and it's a writing tool and an element practice; but let's not exaggerate it's importance.
>>
If your goal is to play music that isn't classical or jazz then I find jazz the superior foundation for learning music. Improvising is incredible for internalizing where every single note and interval is on your instrument and for being able to hear and construct harmonies. Classical gets you to the same place eventually but you can spend years just learning pieces without understanding how to apply that to your own music.

jazz is certainly one of the best content troughs i've ever slopped at, seems there's no end to the associative game of who played with that drummer you liked and which pianist played with them and where'd they get their influences and so on.

jazz is ok, but most of the musicians make grunting noises when they play. try this on headphones or earbuds and you'll always look around thinking you're gonna be mugged.
most jazz fusion is ok though because it's usually more electric.
>>
>>132032615
have you heard keith jarrett's grunts, he is by far the worst.
>>
jazz is really bad. even the absolute peak of jazz, charles mingus, pales in comparison to middling classical composers.

Improvised music isn't for autists with their one-track myopic minds, this is not the place to discuss jazz supremacy. Even discussing classical supremacy here can be dicey.

I love jazz so much but if I'm honest I'm too white for most of it. My favourites are Bill Evans and Chet Baker and I almost exclusively listen to ballads
>jazz is the highest form of music
This is patently untrue. Although it is vastly superior to classical

This is a good video on the topic

>>
>>132029318
Do you think improvised compositions don't exist in classical or that classical musicians weren't traditionally trained to improvise? If a Jazz musician was asked to improvise a la Beethoven or Liszt he would fall apart.
