*makes boomers and millennialoids seethe*
What do you mean? This is basically nu metal for boomers
A pivotal record of my teen years was Lacuna Coil's Karmacode, so color me surprised when I finally listen to this in my 30s and it felt like wearing an old suit.
>>132035660I'm a late millennial and I thought Metallica was lame and corny until /mu/ showed me this, and I love itI already loved nu metal like Linkin Park and Papa Roach before this
Nohoo
>zoomers are reevaluating St AngerI'm sorry but at least late Slayer albums still have guitar solos and aren't 75 minutes long
Over time, I learned to enjoy every song on St. Anger. They’re pretty unusual, at least by Metallica's standards. In fact, I’d say it has an industrial sound, possibly because of how aggressive and repetitive the riffs are. However, I never liked My World. It's arguably the worst song they've ever written, though who am I to criticize? I love Purify, which a lot of people consider their worst.
>>132041361there's nothing wrong with Purify at allit's the hardest track on the album
>>132035660this album would be listenable with a different vocalist. james sounds so embarrassing here.
I've never listened to anything past the black album because that one was when metallica decided to stop being a thrash band and start being a buttrock band.
>>132042430nobody else could set the tone properly shouting "IF I COULD HAVE MY WASTED DAYS BACK". His voice is built for anger and the regret of a man who's used to ignoring and denying his problems in a backwards attempt at being strong. He also does Korny nu metal vocals well, see "The Unnamed Feeling".James's voice is as perfect as Lars's percussion, on St Anger.
>>132042460St Anger isn't thrash, it's much better than thrash, which sucks.
>>132042919he sounds terrible
>>132043001How? And compared to what?
>>132041354repentless is one of the most embarrassing metal albums i've ever heard
>>132035660St. Anger was victim of performative hate just like Nickelback. St. Anger (the song) sounds like ass with le normal snares but based the way it is.
>>132042460St. Anger and Death Magnetic clear the shitty 90s stuff but yeah, you've already heard Metallica's best.
Nah I like "alternative metal" and i went into this album with an open mind but I just sucks so much. The production is terrible the songwriting is not there, james' voice is shot. Everything is just wrongExcept I actually dont hate the drum thing
st anger is a very dated album...and that's ok. it was made during the band's lowest point. they actually could have broken up. we take metallica for granted today but they were very very very close to breaking up. there was a very real chance that when james got back from his russia hunting trip that the band was done. an even greater chance when he finally got done with rehab. he was sober and he was learning how to write songs again for the first time without alcohol. it's kind of hard to imagine that if you've never been a musician and have never had a substance problem. but st anger has a lot of that just nasty raw emotion that comes with starting anew in a way.
>>132035660Was I the only one here who was introduced to this album through the marketing for WWE SummerSlam 2002?
