Guitar strings edition

>boil old strings
>cum on old string
Which one bros?
>>
>>132090450
boil because cumming on only one string will still leave 5 old strings
>>
>>132090406
I used to. Rackmount everything can be convenient but I end up playing out of different amps often enough that I went back to heads and a pedalboard.
>>
>>132090443
regarding valve amps of different wattages... would a 100W tube amp played at bedroom levels make the valves last longer than if you played at the exact same volume with a 5W tube amp?
is there positives to having high wattage besides headroom and raw power ?
>>
>>132090526
generally speaking, yes
>>
>>132090526
A 7 o'clock 100w tube amp is still louder than a 7 o'clock 5w tube amp.
>>
>>132089609
just buy a prs se and splurge everything on the amp
the real meta is a prs se, nano cortex and headrush speakers
>>
>>132090549
thats not the question, the question is wether buying a higher wattage tube amp for the same type of usage will give your tubes a longer lifespan than if you used a lower wattage
>>
>>132090568
it’s how hard they’re being overdriven not the rated wattage of the system.
>>
>>132090579
why would you want to overdrive an amplifier? the clean, noiseless sound of an amp is what every proper guitarist should strive for
>>
>>132090588
you want to overdrive the tubes. the beautiful sound of a tube amplifier is the tubes just slightly being overdriven to where they can no longer accurately recreate the signal of the guitar. this adds the saturation everyone talks about.

>>
>>132090613
a clean non-overdriven tube amp already sounds amazing, and you can add a touch of overdrive or light fuzz if you want some saturation anyway
>>
>>132090634
you want some distortion on bass. either enough to slightly clip the low end fingerstyle or clip the pops when slapping because they are just always going to be louder by nature of the way they are played. I don’t think they sound bad clean I just think they sound better slightly saturated. clean is great for jazz I don’t listen to jazz all the time

my favorite speaker i ever owned was something called "ciare" from italy, 70's or 80s 12" , beautiful jensen-type fender sound, shame its just about 30W
>>
>>132090722
That sounds interesting
>>
>>132090738
they were outfitted on davoli amplifiers in italy, a brand that died aroudn the 80's afaik but made really decent equipment in my experience
If i ever visit italy in a road trip id try to get a few of those amps because they often genuinely dont know how good they are

its true, look up Mercantino Musicale

Other obscure european brand thats pretty decent is "Sinmarc" from Spain (Literally means "without brand" in catalan) which made cool Fender clones during the 60's and 70's. Beyma from Spain may be interesting too but they're focused on general PA, not guitar stuff
>>
>>132090778
I'm gonna check these out. Thanks.

>valves lasting longer
That depends on the bias point, if biased hotter then they don’t last long. On the 5 watt you can achieve power output distortion easier. Also most 5-watters are single ended and produce different harmonics than a push-pull (20 watt amps and up)
>is there positives to having high wattage besides headroom and raw power ?
The tone is thicker and it has a bigger low end because of the bigger iron
>>
>>132090863
>if biased hotter then they don’t last long
oh yeah, and Class A amps are "on" all the time so it doesnt actually matter much how hard your push them right? i even read that due to the nature of the amp, actually pushing it a lot helps it stay cooler since it converts some of its energy into sound rather than converting all of it into heat
>>
>>132090875
idk about amps but that is true in electric motors.

Friedman really doesn't miss, bros. Can get pretty much any dirt tone I'd ever want out of this thing.

>>132090685
It's a Butcher cab, yeah. Agreed that they're underrated speakers for sure.
>>
>>132090875
True class A is on for the whole 36 degree phase, but you can play with the bias current and normally set it to 70% of max plate dissipation. Regarding the cooling- maybe, the OT and the speaker also have thermal losses.
>>
>>132090906
>360

>>132090900
Cool. Your speakers are original to the cab.

Sure are. I rewired it in series though so it's running at 4ohms now though.
>>
>>132090945
You mean parallel, because series would give you 64 ohms. Yup, those are first edition white label.
>>
>0 idea about speakers
>see "celestion speaker, 40€ used"
>buy it expecting great tones because Celestoin
>its the bottom of the line Celestion seventy 80 speakers, sounds meh

Friedman has been the best in the business for a while and the BE100 is his crown jewel imo. He nails almost every head, it's just a matter of picking your flavor.

>crate v50 valve combo, 8 ohm speaker
>extension speaker is somehow recommended 8ohm too
>has some kind of switching circuit where when the extension speaker and the main speaker are connected at once it works at 8 ohm with both somehow

>be bass player
>you want a tube amp? here’s a decrepit b15 or 600 watt Aguilar rack take your pick
wow awesome loving it
>>
>>132091087
tubes on bass are a meme, the best amps in the business are solid state and overdrive/distortion requires a blend function with the clean since it takes out low end if it comes naturally. A Darkglass or Sansamp pedal provides several times better tone than a vintage Ampeg with toobs.
>>
>>132090568
>>132090526
No, the answer is no. Tube life has nothing to do at all with how loud you're playing the amp. If the amp is on, and the tubes are powered, they are burning hours of life period. Some amps will kill them faster than others depending in how much current they're running through them but thats static to the circuit itself and nothing to do with settings or use.
>>
>>132091026
you're looking at a preamp
Tube amps tolerate a 2:1 in either direction. The v50112 out jacks are just parallel shorting jacks.
>>
>>132091145
phase splitter, verb, bias circuit more specifically
