sometimes i lean on those doors on my commute and fantasize about one of them breaking and sucking me out and the train turning me into a gnarly mess of flesh and bloodi knew someone who joined DB as a conductor then one hot summer day on the job she probably passed out on the platform, slipping between the platform and the train as it started to roll, immediately and gruesomely killing her. she left her husband and a then 7yo kid. sad way to go.
you might laugh at the video in OP, but it took me a while to find out that you pull the table towards you in the ICE 4 trains. In other news, if you want to buy your own ICE, DB is selling their BR406 train sets. a couple of them still have the logo of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen on them, even after they sold them to DB. I just saw one in Frankfurt today on its way to the Ruhrpott joined with a normal ICE 3 BR403. I like the OG black info screens that they still have.
Took the train to Germany last weekend. On the way there it was an SBB GmbH service, but it was crowded like a sardine can. Awful. On the way back it was a DB train. Really dirty inside and outside. Aren't german trains ever cleaned? The end.
>>2036195sure but the cleaning units are chronically understaffed. finding people willing to do those kinds of jobs is tough.
>>2036199Yeah who wants to clean shit for the minimum wage.
>>2036165>BR406Which series is that? I can never keep the ICE 3s apart.
>>2036237it's the international version of the original ICE 3 with multisystem capabilities. they ran on the Frankfurt - Amsterdam and Frankfurt - Brussels lines and originally to Paris as well. the constant switching between different current systems wore down the electrical components and made the BR406 really unreliable.
>>2036199Take the benefits away from lazy migrants and they'll find people.
the fucking tomato juice is the cheapest beverage in the ICE Bordbistro lol.
>>2036624>They should [...] have people on both ends to catch these niggers.I have seen that happen on RRX once or twice, but it's really not a common occurrence, that they do that.At the moment there is ZERO reason to schwarzfahren in Germany. You WILL get caught at least once a month and have paid more than the regular fare with that. The monthly chunk of social security earmarked for mobility is higher than the price of a D-ticket.Anyone, that at this point intentionally skips the fare is pure evil. Take them to court!
>>2036637>Take them to court! At this point in Germany the court case would either be simply dismissed or the poor hard working skilled workers would get a D-Ticket for a year for free to be able to go after their legitimate business. Also the ticket controller who caught them would get a 1500€ fine and a year in prison for racism.

>>2037348Wonder how they will do with 3 Girunos running a schedule for 3 trains without any reserve. And they can't dig up a spare 1144+Cityshuttle somewhere, like ÖBB did so far.
>>2037348the comfort plus seats are 1st class seats being in use by SBB. that's clearly the choice for Klimaticket owners instead of suffering in the Railjets.>>2037357I hated beta testing the Giruni as passenger, but they seem to run reliably now. they could ask SBB to lease a train, but on the other hand SBB and ÖBB are working together as state owned operators.makes me wonder if they keep the trains when the Semmeringtunnel opens. they could do cross-border services like Vienna - Venice or Vienna - Munich - Zürich/Frankfurt.
>2nd ring line with Elbquerung to Finkenwerder>looong U5>Geesthacht gets 3 connectionsngl, that would be pretty cool. unrealistic sadly
>>2037820ring line sounds nice. something Bavarians couldn't come up with in Munich.
>>2037916the Munich S/U-Bahn network would have so much potential if it didn't have the shape of a starfish. and the planned 2nd S-Bahn trunk line won't make it any better. at least they have a tram network to compensate for lacking cross connections.Hamburg has an (underdimensioned) ring line with the U3, but no tram. we'd have first class transit with a larger ring line and a tram network. but for now, Berlin has Munich & Hamburg beat despite being the poorest of the three cities
>>2037102what a braindead unreality post
What's your favorite CHAD transport company acronym? For me it's VAG (Nürnberg/Fürth) and FART (Locarno).

Weeks later I realize that I mixed things up:VAG is the Nuremberg transit companyVGN is the regional transit authority
>>2039200Common germ L
>>2039200this is just official now, in reality the majority of these trains arrived late in Basel and ended there. that was my experience when I used the EC 8 all the way from Hamburg in the panorama coach. a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday I caught the EC 6 within Switzerland. as it arrived late, it was used on the IC6 service and continued to Domodossola, Italy instead of Interlaken. the train itself arrived really dirty as it transported lots of football fans earlier (the train goes via Münster-Dortmund-Düsseldorf-Köln, go figure). all that wasted Flaschenpfand on the beer bottles, one could buy another train ticket.I can't count how many times my ICE ended prematurely in Basel Badischer Bahnhof instead of Basel SBB, which really sucks in the evening, when you want to catch one of the remaining trains to the rest of Switzerland.
Frage an die Ösis an der Stelle: Ist die Westbahn besser?(Für den Fall, dass es mal wieder nach Wien gehen sollte.)
In other news: If railways don't start upping their autonomous driving game, freight rail is fucked.>>>/wsg/5873181And autonomous street-bound automobiles could also cause damage for passenger rail, if they aren't properly integrated in a multi-modal mobility-as-a-service solution.
>>2040443>autonomous street-bound automobiles could also cause damage for passenger railnot gonna happen, as their throughput is simply too low. they aren't scalable to the same degree as rail is. metro and suburban rail networks will become automated first. already planned for the Hamburg S-Bahn and new metro line U5. tho autonomous minibusses are also in the works, but only to increase coverage for low density areas underserved by regular busses
>>2040470>they aren't scalable to the same degree as rail is.Tesla is putting a lot of effort into it to make it scale. (Including autonomous Tesla-busses.)Tesla owners will be able to rent-out their cars as taxis through a maker-operated platform. Self-driving obviously helps a lot with this. The optimum would obviously be to have on-demand vehicles for the last-mile to and from the closest station to offer an integrated solution at scale. If public transit operators don't start putting some effort into that, (US) car makers will make them redundant. And German car makers' future is also not looking too bright, considering this.Look at >>2040443. That's not a closely controlled experiment, but regular operation on public roads. The future is already here and it won't wait for us, if we don't get up to speed.

What are the "best" railway museums in Germany?
>>2040782DB museum in Nürnberg is OK. not that much in terms of rolling stock, but the history is well documented with rail related items. I haven't been to the one in Koblenz, I think they have some older stuff and have some summer festival with lot of opportunities for hobby photographs.French national railway museum is in Mulhouse and can easily be reached from Freiburg or Basel, they have lots of space and tons of rolling stock on display.
>>2040782The Technikmuseum in Berlin has a pretty nice exhibit of locomotives housed in some old roundhouses which originally belonged to the Anhalter Bahnhof (once the biggest train station in the city). They've also got large exhibits on ships and planes, if your /n/-tism swings that way.
>>2042060That's really cool. I do wonder why they opted for the extra expense of funicular and air cushions. I guess that ski town has (had?) money to spare for projects like that.

DB is a reflection of present day Germany: a country in decline.Shit never runs on time, trains are dirty, often vandalized, filled with loud Germans or disgusting brown Merkel rapefugees.Absolute nightmare.Polish PKP is nicer.
>>2047106Note that it was the conservative party that financially starved the train system for 20 years, invited the refugees and gutted the social programs keeping them from committing crime. >>2049572That's cause all the rich Germans pay their taxes in Switzerland
>>2049595Please calm down anon, you're making me upset.
>>2049613Nah, it's because our state has a spending crisis. It's spending way too much on shit absolutely no one asked for.And with in the end SPD, Grüne and Linke steering this government by its horns, there is no hope for this getting fixed (for now). The 500+ billion of new debt will probably mostly be used to finance shit from the regular budget, so more bullshit spending on SPD justice projects can happen without getting in conflict with Schuldenbremse. That said, the "Boomer-Soli", if it were to happen, will probably lead to a massive wave of (by no means "rich") people seeking refuge from this socialist government in Germany.

>>2049891>rich germans don't pay any taxesThat's simply bullshit. New Austrian train category just droppedToday ÖBB ran their first Interregio between Mallnitz and Salzburg.
>>2050529The train is a 4746 with a couple of leather seats as """first""" class, they could already been seen on various regional trains in the past weeks. Now on the Interregio services, there is a guy selling snacks from a cart. And you could technically reserve seats, but the IR 696 is mostly a commuter train, so I haven't seen anybody doing this.
>>2050529>>2050531Austria might be calling it an Interregio, but it's no Interregio. The standout feature of an Interregio is, that you can also use it with regular short-distance tickets.Austria appears to be going for the by-the-letter interpretation ("between regions"), which loses this standout feature, that made Interregios highly attractive.
