>>
>>2066876
Don't start the training, planes will all fly by themselves withint the next 8 years
>>
>>2066874
Aircraft has been 95% automated for the last 50 years. The only thing keeping two pilots in the cockpit are the unions who are influencing the FAA/congress. There's no current automation for ground ops, not that there couldn't be, and most autopilots can be turned on by 200-400 feet AGL on takeoff and not shutoff until 200ft AGL or less on landing. Those same autopilots can usually autoland but company rules say you may autoland in certain conditions. Point being, the tech has been there for years, and we still have two pilots. ALPA and others continue to lobby to keep pilot jobs. The first place you'll see """automation""" is in all-cargo flights over oceanic airspace. a 4 pilot heavy crew may reduce to a 3 pilot augmented crew, or otherwise either crew may turn into only 1 pilot being required in the cockpit during oceanic cruise and the other guys snoozing in the bunks. Until you see that, don't worry one iota about airline pilot jobs. Grow a pair you little bitch.

Did you read my post or just mass reply like a faggot? She was all over the place fighting her plane because she didn't understand the planes systems. I haven't flown every type out there but usually there is a red button to disable auto pilot right on the yoke. All she had to do was hit that and follow a heading while maintaining altitude. Once she had that done she could call ATC and tell them she was having problems and request vectors.

got forced to stay after work for a vpd presentation from hq and i really really wish i could clip the video to repost here

was a near-miss/vpd during the storm jan 25th at swf where tower cleared an allegiant to land as a snow team was still on the runway during snow ops, pilot didn't hear/obey the go-around given after getting landing clearance onto rwy 27, missed the friction tester + 2 blowers as they were coming off the runway by a split second

trying to find the footage it was genuinely scary glad im seen as too stupid to be trusted leading a snow team around my airport...have a feeling they forced us to watch it because they don't want it getting leaked/screen recorded it honestly could've just been a fucking powerpoint/online meeting

both parties at fault imo pilot deviation + snow ops should've had tower radio on and gotten the fuck off when they heard atc freaking out over not getting a response to their 2nd go around

Theres a few guys at my school that age and older even. I think taking a discovery flight is a good idea before deciding this is for you. They should really make discovery flights in actual IMC. It would probably save people a lot of money

Nah that wouldnt be weird, it would be smart. Just don't be surprised if they can't or say no. Most CFIs are busy and have blocks of instruction lined up in advanced. You probably have a better chance of getting to talk to a CFI for an extended period of time if its a Part 61 program rather than Part 141

Networking comes naturally as you progress in the industry. Make friends with your CFIs and your regional captains and keep in touch with them as they move on to legacy carriers and they will write you letters of rec. Another, more humiliating option is to attend a job fair and grovel.
Guard your reputation as you would your life. When you are starting out, all it takes is one fuck up to torpedo your career. Stay off social media. Assume that everyone you fly with will be your chief pilot someday.

Don't fuck up.
The only people I know who busted their IR ride were total idiots. You need to think calmly and logically about each phase of the flight. Think 1-2 steps ahead of the airplane and always have a plan B in case you fuck something up. Keep your scan going and maintain focus throughout the ride. You can do this.
>>
>>2067530

Meet the CFIs and see if you like them and they're not complete retards. Ask to see the fleet schedule. You need to fly your ass off to progress quickly. Treat flight school like a full time job. Sheppard air the writtens and get them done ahead of time.
AOPA is a good resource.
https://aopa.org/training-and-safety/learn-to-fly/flying-for-fun/choose-where-to-train
Jetcareers is good too but I wouldn't bother with APC its full of negative fucks
>Is that typical?
Somewhat. I was a CA at the regionals and an LCC (pic rel) and furloughed from both before making it to the legacies. If you're motivated, you can make it a lot quicker than that. I got lazy and hung out in the left seat for too long. This industry is a big dumb game of musical chairs, make sure you're in a good seat when the music stops.
>Oh I guess wha I really wanted to ask, would it be weird to basically spend most of my career as a FO rather than becoming a captain?
Lots of guys stay senior FOs. Your schedule is great and DL/UA/AA FO pay is really good.

Regional pay is ass, FO pay starts around $100/hr and you're gonna credit ~75 so about $90-100k starting out. Just google "[regional] pay scale" when you're getting closer to deciding.
>Can you explain this further? I thought pilot in command hours were most important.
The only purpose of TPIC should be to get to a legacy/major carrier. I got way too comfortable in the left seat of my shit ass regional and LCC and didn't bother applying out of both until the ship was sinking.
I think the wisest career path for you would be to go to a regional, take the first available CA upgrade, and then make it your life's mission to get to the majors. Flows are an option as well but they're kinda overrated imo.

I paid for all my training and then my wife’s medical school. Our rich boomer parents covered maybe 10% the overall cost. Needless to say I’m not putting my kids through the same crucible. Our parents covered for their greed by saying it built character…what a crock. We lived like shit for no reason and now we are getting the early stages of a guilt trip about how we are going to take care of them as they get into their seventies.

They’re not bad parents but they just don’t recognize the times. Either way, the cycle ends with our generation and our kids will have every last cent of their education funded.
