Normal sea temperatures are around 6 to 7 degrees centigrade and air temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees. Cold but still somewhat survivable. The sea and air temperatures being below freezing contributed to the death toll.4: Cultural issues and order misunderstandings hampered and delayed people getting onboard lifeboats. 2nd and 3rd class passengers were initially barred from going to the deck with the lifeboats because 1st class had priority. Said 1st class didn't want to enter the boats because of points 1 and 3. The ones who wanted to go on the lifeboats couldn't while the ones who could, didn't. Women and children had priority in boarding but some officers misunderstood the order as in women and children ONLY. This contributed to the death toll.5: The absence of the Californian who could've arrived at the scene before Titanic fully sank. This greatly contributed to the death toll.
