Is there literally ANY reason to use mech dicks when picrel exist?
Fa66otry.Why have a car when there is a perfectly good goat eating your lawn.
Not really no. On paper I guess they're more reliable but this isn't like a rim brake vs coaster brake situation where one is obviously only meant for bikes made for children and not any serious cycling unless you want to lose your ability to stop every time you drop a chain when you need to stop the most
All the high end groupsets are disk if your fine using r8000 forever it's fine.I have those brakes and can run 30mm tires
>>2074628Calipers fucking SUUUUUUCKThe only valid rim brakes are v-brakes, but even the best Vs are at best on par with midrange cable disks, and not in any way comparable to the good shitAnd good mech disks, in turn, are on par with commuter-grade hydraulics like MT200s, while generally being more expensiveBut on the other hand, from there the improvements start running into diminishing returns, top end hydraulics are generally not worth itThere is very little reason to not run MT200s on any flat bar bike, and very little reason for Shimano besides extortion to not make equally cheap and cheerful road/gravel brifters based on the same internalsBrakes are a solved issue, there is one right choice, a few mildly suboptimal choices and a whole lot of "this isn't 1997 anymore grandpa" ones
>>2074669Surly is still selling bikes with BB7s, so evidently they are not a "solved issue" from a consumer's point of view. Design-wise maybe but a generation of price-sensitive cope posting has enabled bike brands to save $50 off impressionable rubes who were told that unc dicks are ok
>>2074670BB7s are the good shit. Firmly in mildly suboptimal, but if you really wanna go autistic about reliability and repairability of cables like Surly does, you can do much, much worse.
>>2074671You're going to have to replace the pads, the shift cables, the tires, the bar tape, etc. Many of which wear items matter less than being able to stop effectively. Unc dicks have no place other than perhaps as a parking brake for wheelchairs, yes I will die on this hill.
>>2074669Except that road/gravel frames have flat mount calipers and the mt200s are post mount and the flat mount mtb brakes that exist are just road/gravel calipers
>>2074673There are many ways around Big Bike's greed.
>>2074628Yeah, so you look like you are riding a bike from this century. I don't care how good you unc brakes work your bike will always look like its from 1901
>>2074706And?
If you don't use rim brakes you're a brocoli hair zoomer and need to go back to roblox. Simple As
>>2074706Bikes from 1901 didn't use rim brakes, they used spoon brakes
>>2074628Zero reason. Disctards are beyond hope riding their rigid ass forks and having no idea what they are missing
>>2074628It depends on where you live sadly. I live in a super bike friendly area, and it rules. I do own a car, but usually I only drive it maybe once per week. Everything else I can do on my bike easily and safely. It's amazing.
2011+25 and /n/ still can't discuss brakes without repeatedly conflating criticisms of cable dicks with criticism of all dick breaks
IDK why discs ever took off they have zero Modulationliterally just use Hydraulic Rim Breaks theyre stronger & have proper Modulation.
>>2074669>Calipers fucking SUUUUUUCKAre you retarded? Calipers are the greatest rim brake application of all time. They're ever more simple than V brakes. So fucking easy. That physical feedback is way better experience than numb disc bullshit
>>2074726You know what has modulation? A fucking wire pulling calipers against a rim. You can actually feel the brake working with your hand, it's super immersive HD modulation hand feel
I hate this thread. Everyone is either trolling or retarded
>>2074730Both
>>2074671>surly>repairablelmao
