For me it has got to be the following:
Steam loco: German class 18
Electric-loco: German class 101
Diesel-loco: German class 218
Chunter: German class V100
EMU: Desiro Hc (It's the one I drive myself and I am very happy!)
DMU: German class 612 as it was the one that drove on the only line my hometown had.

Before you ask why all of those are german classes: I am german and biased

Wasn't this the motto for the restoration of the shown loco?
>>
>>2075047
>Steam loco: German class 18
That's just all Länderbahn fast 2'C1 locos, though the bavarian ones are a popular favorite
>Electric-loco: German class 101
not bad but I prefer the 103
>Diesel-loco: German class 218
fair but V200 for me
>Chunter: German class V100
V100 are light to medium passenger / freight locos, they kind of suck as shunters which is why the V90 was made
I'm going with the V60 here just because it's so anachronistic
>EMU: Desiro Hc
rode that lately, wasn't that great from a passenger perspective desu
403 (alt) for me
>DMU: German class 612
cool from a technical standpoint but I get sea-sick riding them at night
601 is the prettiest, turbine engines optional

I’ve got a thing for camelbacks. They had a massive firebox to burn anthracite waste and had to scoot the cab up while leaving the fireman back in a second small cab. Every railroad serving the Pennsylvania anthracite fields used these and despite being dangerous and archaic some ran into the 1950s.
>>

Ngl it was close between 101, 103 and 120 for me.
I get the V200, it's a great loco but I like the 218 a bit more.

Yeah Desiro is not the most comfy, but holy shit is it a powerhouse. 403 is, in my opinion, one of the most overpowered trains ever. Motors under every single coach is insane, especially for early 2000s.
And yeah I agree the 601 is absolutely stunning.I actually do not know a train taht looks cooler and prettier than the TEE trains. Shame what happened to them tho.
>>
>>2075090
Just when I thought steam locos couldn't get any more dangerous...
Quite interesting tho.
>>
>>2075085
Not sure. They are restoring a second one back to ATSF colors down in Jeetsco, TX at Museum of the American Railroad. Could be a slogan for part of their resto efforts?

I love older wooden deck roof streetcars but the PCC is such a futuristic Art Deco design. Thousands were built and they influenced the Tatra design in Europe. Some are still running in revenue service and every American trolley museum has some PCCs.

As a fellow german train autist I have to ask: why the BR 101 and not the BR 103? I always thought the 103 looked much more unique and elegant.
>>

Sorry, should have read the thread

During the war Switzerland converted some steam locos to electric heating because they had abundant hydro power but coal was scarce.
>>
>>2075047

I had to fact check this and it checks out.
>>
>>2075212
dw lol it is still a legit question as i only said that it was close between 101, 103 and 120 for me.

I am 23 and sadly never experienced a train ride with a 103 so far (I will apply at TRI and AKE at one point in my career as a traindriver just bc of the 103! :D). But the 101? It is till there in daily use and just a fantastic loco. Yes sure, it's based on 12x, the mother of all three-phase current highspeed-locos, but it's still nostalgic for me. I come from NRW and have nice memories of visiting my grandparents in Baden-Württemberg every holiday, most of the time taking an IC instead of ICE there bc we were poor. And for me, a german IC is a 101 with IC-coaches.

May sound nonsensical, but that's my reasoning lol
>>
>>2075216
wait, fact check that this is my photo? :D
>>
>>2075214
mother of all that is inefficient, this may take the cake in least efficient locomotion that i have ever heard of. And I have heard of Aachen's sodium-hydroxide powered tram!

I don't know if it's all that inefficient. In any case it was a way to get additional electric locomotives in a time when both new locomotives or coal were hard to come by. So obviously an emergency solution for a time of crisis.
>>
>>2075384
I was a bit to premature in my judgement. Read into the whole thing. Considering that switzerland had A lot of hydro-energy at the time, this was actually not too bad. Sure, lots of energy is lost being unused, but...it's not a finite energy resource. Well...yeah technically it is, but it will end no matter if you use it or not.

The closest thing I’ve seen to this is trolley poles on Pacific Electric diesel locomotives and borrowed Southern Pacific steamers. They were needed to activate signals.

So I did some research and they never had poles on steam locomotives but I’ve photos of SP steam doubleheaded with electric box motors.

I f'ing adore the 1700.
It looks so squished and reminds me of a twinkie
Also isn't the JR E351 just the NS ICM Koploper in a different painting?

May I present to you this three-phase current loco? Notice anything funny?
>>
>>2075456
I do indeed. One catenary antenna for each of the three phases.
>>
>>2075422
Oh, and post pics of the SP steamer, fellow TrainOrders subscriber.
>>
>>2075456
That’s wild. It looks like TV antennas on a 1950s apartment building.
The University of Michigan had a crazy setup on a steeplecab that hauled coal to their power plant. Double bow collectors (rare in the U.S.), some third rail, and then what’s described as a trolley pole in the side of the loco, all of this to get through tight spaces around the power plant. I searched for photos and couldn’t find any online but I’ve seen it in a book on Michigan traction.

I suppose I have a "type". I love trains with the cabin set above the rest of the carriage. See picrel of the Odakyu 50000 series.
>>
>>2075741
HAHAHAHA OMG I forgot they did that. I don't think there is a single german train that has that sadly.
