how soon can an out of shape person adapt to cycling 8 miles a day? 4 miles to and back.

I am thin, skinny fat. I bought a used trek bike and I tried cycling just straight for 10 mins and lost my breath. I got a foldable ebike as a gift but I haven't tried it yet.

Do I just keep doing it? Can it be dangerous if you continue to push yourself?

I just really hate sitting in traffic. My city is very bike friendly, but hilly. But I also don't want to give myself a heart attack to save on gas money.

Just start. Unless you have any pre-existing conditions you'll get used to it in no time.

start out slow, 9 to 13 mph is easy on a flat surface.
go slower if you have to and faster when its easy.
when going uphill.. (3 to 15%). better to walk desu, unless your bikes lowest gear is significantly lower than 24 gear inches.
down hill, gg no re. your brakes and tires and bearings had best be in top condition. 30 to 43 mph is kind of unpleasant.

plan your route such that you know spots were you can stop and rest if needed.
stay hydrated ! take at least 500 ml of water with you, (better to take 1000 ml, less need to refill that way)
>if your really thirst maxed consider electrolyte powder. (drinking too much water dilutes and desalinates blood)
take snacks with you, otherwise you might buy bad food while out and about, or overeat when you get home.
anyway invest in some PPE sooner rather than later, get something cheap that fits and works 4u.
sunburn, windburn, wind noise, eye damage, holes in clothing, shoe laces caught in drive train, road rash, its all avoidable.

>dangerous
unlucky bike crash will instantly wreck any fitness you once had, dont be in a hurry.
all things going well is you’ll be out biking for maybe 2 hours. (average speed do be like that)(and you may rest for a bit)
bad weather or damage to the bike and you can be in a 3 to 4 hour ordeal.
having to adjust or repair a bike in the field really sucks, even if you have the tools with ye.

>cycling just straight for 10 mins and lost my breath.
probably going too fast, I had this problem trying to run 2 miles in 10 minutes,
completed the first half ahead of time, but ran out of breath and had to walk the last forth.
did this a few times before I figured out the minimum viable pace to reach such an goal.
>idk jogging feels like twice the effort for half the speed as biking.
start with a smaller goal and when that becomes easy go a bit further.
>tldr have fun

Use lower gears and don't try to go flat-out 100% sanic at all times. You should be able to do that without any issues whatsoever.

If your bike can't do lower gears, get a different bike, and don't use knobby tires in the city.

You have to spend at least 18,000$ on a Gravel Bike with the correct road tires that roll fastest and NO SUSPENSION to even dream of going fast. low profile rim brakes for aero and the deepest drops you can get.

Is someone playing around with LoRAs or what is this style of awful unfunny shitpost lately, can you get a trip so I can filter your LLM spam? It was never funny and there are fast boards you can shit up and get quicker results

>ebike
You need to kill your self NOW
>>

Idk if you’re just being dramatic or actually serious with that heart attack talk, but no, some exercise won’t kill you…

Just get out and ride and you’ll notice your stamina improving after just a week or two, since you’re basically starting from zero.

It takes me 20 minutes on a normal hybrid bike with slow schwalbe Marathons to do 4 miles and that's when I'm feeling not at my best. I'm shocked by your physical state.

i did the conversion wrong in my head and it's not 4 miles. for some reason i was thinking that that's a bit over 8km. my commute is about 9km. still slow but i was thinking of what my speedo normally reads on or off power and the math wasnt lining up.

4mi is more like what i did to get to college and yeah that would take me ~20 mins including traffic lights and such and not really trying. i think i did it once in like 15 but got every light and actually ate that day. but i wont lie about being a fat nigga who vapes now. if i can do it so can op
