As someone who for now has only flown in A320s and B737s I'm thinking of doing some bucket list planes. How long do you think Luftansa will keep 747's? What about A340's? At least Emirates will seemingly fly the A380 until 2040s, so with that I have time. But the 747 and A340 not so much.

Aim higher.
Concord.
At least one gulfstream.
C130, preferably AC 130.
At least one near orbit flight.

They've officially announced the A340-600s will be retired in October. I am very lucky I will be taking one in August. That's always been my bucket list plane other than the A380 which as you mentioned still has a bit of life left in them

Well that sucks, I don't think I can get a flight until then. Unless some random charter will keep flying the A340 I guess I'll miss that one. Luftansa plans to keep the 747-8I's for a while though right? Because that's a plane I definitely don't want to miss.

And if I want to catch an A380 probably best to try to also catch a Luftansa one, since they have upper deck economy. Flying A380 in the upper deck is definitely part of the bucket list and Luftansa allows to cross that without paying for business class.

>tfw got to fly on the upper level of a Lufthansa 747 last year

I thought I was going to get to ride in one of these out to Thief River Falls, but they swapped it out for a solid black ERJ-145

Do they still fly Metroliners? I'd like to get on one of those
>>
Your top priority should be plane that are fast disappearing from airlines like the A340 and B747-400.

Metro is lots of fun if you are in the first row of pax seats - you can see the cockpit panel clearly. The one I flew in didn’t have an auto pilot and flew down finals at 120kts. Cruise descent was 240kts. A speed machine

If A340 will disappear this year, then yeah I think that's one I will just have to accept I'll miss. With 747 it will be enough that I will get to fly on some 747. Whether it would be the 747-400 or 747-8 it's good enough for me. Especially if I'm able to get an upper row business class seat on one.

Hopefully the situation in Cuba will calm down so I can maybe get on a flight with an Ilyushin il-96, since Cubana still flies it. I think flying on that one would make up for missing the A340.

I could've taken a quick trip down to Florida, but Silver's gone now. Probably my only chance to ride in an ATR

If you haven't already, petition Kayak to let you sort flights by plane. Currently they just have "wide" vs "narrow" body, which is dumb as hell. I've never flown on an A380 and I want my kids to try the 747; but all the routes I know they fly, when I look at the details of the booking, are 777 or A349s

You can go to the airline website to match it to Kayak. Almost all airlines only fly A330s, A350s, 787s or 777s for their widebodies. Only few airlines fly something special like an A380, A340 or 747. If you want to catch a 747 flight Lufthansa is almost your only option. With this I looked at Lufthansa website for the plane details and matched it to the Kayak one and just like this you could have a double 747 flight.
