he was in an echo chamber. Comparing cars vs. gravel trucks against cars vs. bicycles isn't a fair comparison because our legal system considers cars to be first class citizens. In order to drive a 16 wheeler, you need a special CDL whereas any normal car you just need to parallel park once in 11th grade.

Forester didn't consider cyclists who died to be human. neither does our legal system. but we do consider motorists who kill cyclists to be human

>Forester didn't consider cyclists who died to be human
based?

Online echo chambers weren't a thing zoomzoom, Forester essentially pioneered the anglophone cycling discourse. KNEEL

Also I find it interesting how you act concerned about dead cyclists when you're trying to restrict us to bantustans but when you're running us down in the 'car lane' while texting because your buddy was parked in the special 'lane for bikes except when I need a parking space in which case you should dismount and never ride a bike again' suddenly it's an "accident" and "who could have seen this coming!?!?!?? were they wearing bright clothes!?!?!?!?"

In conclusion I would request that you take your own life before posting again, thanks in advance!

And how much are you getting honked at grandpa? I don't think I've gone a day in my life without breaking the speed limit unless you count days not driving. You catch the blame for crashes if you're "just following the speed limit" if the other cars are going 90 and you decided to go 55 because muh rules of the road
>>

echo chambers existed before the internet, retard kun.
> Forester essentially pioneered the anglophone cycling discourse
and pretty much every single problem we have with cycling in the anglosphere comes back to this fact. he made what should be a widely available mode of transportation (like it is in non-England Europe and Asia) into a niche hobby for MAMILs

Your middle paragraph makes no sense. If i understand you correctly your problem with bike lanes is that in theory a car could park in them, thus forcing a cyclist to ride in the car lane, but that's the exact starting point Forester was advocating for: you riding in the same lane with motorists who will kill you without thinking about it. The bike lane is a way better solution. Pedestrians don't have a victim complex about having their own dedicated ROW, I don't understand why you liken it to apartheid.
>who could have seen this coming!?!?!?? were they wearing bright clothes!?!?!?!?"
Again, this line of thinking is exactly what Forester himself was advocating for: understanding every single collision between cyclists and motorists as being entirely the fault of the cyclists. That cars a force of nature and we all need to tiptoe around them.

Cycling is not (supposed to be) a second rate form of transportation. That is what they become when they are sharing a lane with cars 10 times their weight and five times their speed.
>>
bike lanes are good but most cities do them badly on purpose. they're only good when they are point-to-point along major corridors (where cyclists are least safe due to traffic) and should have both cycling lanes on the same side of the street, that side being whichever one has the most useful left turns on it. anything else results in overcomplicated intersections and even more dangerous turning for everybody and cyclists rolling the wrong way down the paths and cagers parking in the bike lanes and shit

also ridiculous faux roundabout crossings like picrel are a fucking meme and overcomplicate the intersection. you may as well just tell cyclists "get off and walk with the peds LOL" at which point some karen will freak out at you for being on the sidewalk for a moment anyway

just let cyclists enter the left lane to turn left like everyone else. either place the car stop line back so cyclists can get ahead of the lead car to turn safely, or just let cyclists enter traffic when necessary

sorry that happened to you or I'm happy for you bro

>no true BIKE LANE
maybe it's time we admitted that bike lanes exist for the sole purpose of blaming the deceased for his own death. but most of you guys are still stuck in this delusional belief that if you do enough stupid shit to appease people who want you dead, they might toss you some scraps like an extra 10 feet of green paint somewhere that it can be used as free parking
>>
>>2080066
like i said, bike lanes only make sense on main roads, and those often already have special lanes (bus/carpool, heavy truccs only, etc)

also a key advantage of bike lanes is they can connect to trails, which run where it would be impractical or undesirable to put a road. i commute on such a trail every day and it is not only nice for being pretty and cool(as in cold, due to shade from foliage) but it is actually ever so slightly shorter a distance than the main road and is much more level

same for alleys n shit (where they exist, my city bizarrely has no permeable alleys) instead of being a nigger infested crime zone, throw up some lamp posts and paint some markings and now it's a proper car-free throughfare that cars dont have any incentive to molest because it's too narrow or not as direct

>Cycling is not (supposed to be) a second rate form of transportation
But they are, in both speed and in economics. Historically, countries will "trade up" to cars from bicycles if the economy improves, like Hong Kong.
>>
>>2080079
Are you implying no man was ever deceived? Mass hysteria is not a thing? Marketing has no point?
>>
>>2080082
I'm saying that cars became popular because they're desirable, though they're a luxury rather than a commodity. The "oil agitprop" theory doesn't hold any weight when the poorest third-worlder desire cars (even pieces of junk), nor that Hong Kong abandoned bicycles en masse when the area became wealthier, nor that the Soviet Union manufactured cars despite being committed to communism.
>>
>>2080084
Back in the day some felt compelled to smoke because it was their defence against smoking indoors. Once legislation against smoking indoors took effect numbers dwindled rapidly. Now most don't want to go back.
I wonder if it's the same with cars and wimpy cagers.
>>
>>2080079
you forgot the humble moped which is the usual intermediary (and still very popular in "2nd world" countries or those that are newly rich) and very rich countries get into motorcycles

ebikes and scooters win yet again, being the true bridge from dysfunctional feudal shitholes to dysfunctional crapitalist shitholes

>>2080086
>>2080084
"cars are oil agitprop" is unique to the US. there's having cars and then there's having 10 lane "free"ways from nowhere to nowhere and the whole thing being hostile to human life

if you look at places that got rich recently, the only example of anywhere that is bulldozing everything to build retarded freeways is india. everywhere else reworks roads to be car-friendly but still be places pedestrians can exist (because cars don't spend money on nor generate goods and services, people do)
>>
>>2080087
>very rich countries
By what standards? GDP? America is #1 with China #2, and Germany (#3), but it's a big dropoff--closer to Mississsippi. Total wealth? America still dominates. Wealth to GDP has HK, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and United States on top, then India, in that order. Wealth per capita? United States is #5, above most of Europe.
>>
>>2080087
unique to the USA
now that's weird. I live on a different continent and the motorist conspiracy, agitprop, psy-ops and what not are just the same.
>>
>>2080093
concern troll retard really trying to weasel his way out of admitting that people in first world countries think motorcycles are cool
>>
>>2080104
>be me
>first world country
>wealthy for said countries and global standards
IMO nothing is more embarassing, effeminate, latent homosexual and weak than motorized personal transportation. It's even more embarassing when the user does obviously not only do so for the utility but also some kind of signalling, like 'OMG look at me im a homosexual brown person and relatively impoverished'
>>
>>2080082
>Are you implying no man was ever deceived? Mass hysteria is not a thing? Marketing has no point?
no, that's why there are cyclists after all
>inb4 more hysterical ramblings about """""motorists""""""
>>
>>2080105
>OMG look at me im a homosexual brown person and relatively impoverished
but enough about your pedalling cope
>>
>>2080105
counterpoint: the sound of electric motors is soothing and the sound of gas/diesel engines is exciting, and you are SOULLESS, HEARTLESS, and absolutely YOULESS if you don't think machinery in general is fun and that riding a creature is also fun, and that combining the two isn't hella mad fun
