Lets see them again for the hundredth time.
Posting my collection of antique crap.

Here's my casual cruiser
>>2079611not mine but I locked up next to this bridgestone street fighter the other day
>>2079651go away
>>2079659is it too mechanically complicated for you
>>2079622Same for my Karakoram. I posted a photo in the dream bike thread and went off about parallelogram v-brakes. I actually never intended to have so many GTs. I bought the green one originally intending to polish it and then found my mint '95 Avalanche. Look at the dork disc on that thing. It's still clear after so long. That thing was almost never ridden. I also have a Tachyon that I didn't post, that's a GT from 91 that had 700D wheels which are almost the same as 650B with a difference of like 2 millimeters. That thing is going to be a painful and expensive project. It's in horrible shape. I really want a Alpinestars cromega frame and a Bianchi Theridion. Also still have this project waiting for me. I fell in love with GT because of their early 90s paintjobs and that's why I will eventually build this thing up. I actually have a teal brooks saddles and brooks grips to go with it. Also gotta say I love the GT mallet stem you put on your bike. I feel like because of their BMX heritage their 90s MTBs are just asking to have BMX bars and stems mounted on them.
Forgot the pic
>e/n/d of summer edition
>>2079639Cool shape. I like that the pedals match the frame. This thing could look very pretty with a different paintjob and more silver parts>>2079640Is the best thing about bridgestones that they were lightweight for steel bikes and very compliant? What's the hype with them?>>2079651I love seeing this monstrosity and the seething it brings. Love how you installed the handlebars
>>2079666I forget do you have this thing as a fixie or a single speed?
>>2079669>I love seeing this monstrosityi fitted the engine to something else but still have that frame and a spare electric motor only reason its not on the road is i couldnt find something waterproof enough fit the controller and battery tobut i got Princess Auto tires, have functional wheels, and a giant bag of random parts i bought off of kijiji so i can have things like "brakes" and "a pannier(maybe)"the plan is to get that going as a FWD e-bike that is pedalable comfortably instead of using the 30kg Puch all the time and letting 10$/mg gasoline evaporate out of the tank using its electric drive insteadalso the handlebars wre straight up i paid 10$ on amazon for an extra inch of height. stock bars were a little low and resulted in actual back pain. the frame was 75$ but i like it so i dont figure, im retarded, no thought went in
>>2079666>end of summersnow is not an impediment
>>2079673Yes, but snow means a different bike most of the time.
>>2079670It's a fixie now but it started life as a coaster brake single speed>>2079673Yep, snow is not an impediment at all. Winter is my favorite season but I still dread winter>>2079674Or different tires
I happened to be riding the train when anon in a different thread asked for a pic.so this one is extra /n/.screenshot'd because file too big

Ebike niggers need to get the fuck off the roads
>>2079761Ebikes are not the problem, the motorist conspiracy that popularized the ebike is the problem. As soon as ebikists admit they are motorists on motorbikes they are no worse than other motorist in my book.
>>2079782fair assessment but ebikes use bicycle parts so any discussion of service or styling will rely more on bicycle discussion than motorcycle discussionofc this does not include >MUH SURRON 80KMH STREET TERRORIST but the average modern electric or hybrid moped is still closer to a bicycle than a motorcycle in terms of sheer listing of part numbers, even if not morally speaking
>>2079786Cheater bikes I usually call them.>Motor does most of the work for you and you don't get much of a workout at the end of the day
>>2079786>whataboutbut this situation is neither new or uniquemany of the earliest motorvehicles were bicycles with a vonbustion engine strapped onclasses of vehicles exist that are the above in essence, albeit increasingly rare in the first world thanks to regulation and affluenceit was only when motorcycles became more powerful that everything else required uprating - but where there was no need the original concept prevailed as it's economical. Admittedly the bicycle industry has diverted from the original trajectory too and you won't find many of the modern big brand / performance oriented bicycle parts on contemporary mopeds (except that one lunatic fag). But at the same time, if you look at the development of the glorified mobility aid dubbed 'ebike' the parallels to motorcycle development (what a coincidence) can not be overlooked. What started just like the historical motorbike, an ordinary bicycle with a battery under the rack and a motor strapped on, now often presents itself as a technological branch. Many premium 'pedelecs', 250W 'ebikes' already are comprised of several new standards. So that pertains to the: >discussion of serviceIn the end it all competes for ressources and logistics at a point that converges somewhere upstream and the similarity really depends on the reference. Meanwhile the concepts underlying operation and servicing are the same again, for all vehicles really. Purely academic discussion in the end as long as the basic semantics can be agreed on:Motorcycles are bicycles with traction motors.Bicycles with traction motors are motorcycles.
>>2079790>>2079792again, fair assessment, but other than the motor and its electronics it's all bike parts with bike-specific considerations for fitting, maintenance, and tuning. >But at the same time, if you look at the development of the glorified mobility aid dubbed 'ebike' the parallels to motorcycle development (what a coincidence) can not be overlooked. also very true. there's a reason that they all look like dogshit pit bikes, and it's only about half chinese re-use of frames destined for pit bikes. the design concessions you have to make for either power source are simply different>Motorcycles are bicycles with traction motors. // Bicycles with traction motors are motorcycles.again, fair, but for certain models (and diy hackjobs) if the non-motor parts of the vehicle are all bike parts, it's appropriate to talk about it on a bike forum. just as how your Emmo Zone or Talaria Queen Bee Z 95 or whatever belongs in a motorcycle shop for suspension service, something like >>2079651 would be rejected by that garage but a bicycle shop is best equipped to service all the parts that don't get gasoline or electrons on them>Many premium 'pedelecs', 250W 'ebikes' already are comprised of several new standards. most of the genuine pedelecs are basically just MTB BSOs with a cutout in the frame for a battery and a hub motor fitted instead of a normal wheel. pit bikes with pedals have no parts commonality to normal bicycles and are trivial to identify and even legislate against but are not "pedelecs". you have Surron Dernagement Syndrome>you won't find many of the modern big brand / performance oriented bicycle parts on contemporary mopeds (except that one lunatic fag).i wish i werent super cheap so i could be a lunatic fag using performance parts, but then i see just a normal disc-ready wheel hub that costs literally more than the bike im putting it on and my brow begins to furrow and sweat
>>2079712I really like what you did with this bike. Surprised you're still using downtube shifters but I just looked st your handlebar setup again and yeah not much room there.
>>2079793>picrelI will provide a few examples and notr that this is all relatively new and only the beginning of a development. >the design concessions you have to make for either power sourceThis is one of the most painful aspects about those things and largely driven by a widespread and retarded legislation (that perfectly reflects the motorist conspiracy), where power AND speed are capped. Early examples were sensible and unironically more environmentally friendly than a HPV. The cap on velocity and the motorist mindset soon brought about needlessly added inefficiency, made most obvious by the tire choices. Sadly human nature has it, as the history of technology has proven, that increase in efficiency usually does not lead to savings but more use. The common cap on velocity just makes it worse. "Why use less power than the law allows and why not waste all that power if I'm not allowed to go faster anyways?" >appropriate to talk about it on a bike forumSure it is. I don't contest that. Getting a freewheel off is getting a freewheel off. Identifying a damaged headset is identifxing a damaged headset. >SurronIdk what that is. I just see things: Nowadays when I come into what is disguised as a bike shop I am met with boomers lined up waiting to hand over 5k for a 'pedelec', once the clerk realises I need a chainlink he's suddenly got better things to do.And yes those 5k behemoths of a bicycle are what is defined as 'pedelecs' in some jurisdictions, 250W motor and 25 km/h assist. And yes many components follow motorcycle logic - since like you have noted - consideration to efficiency is not given.I see those types on those things, trying to endanger everyone around them only to blame it on cyclists and normalize motoring in spaces protected from motorists.I have only rarely seen someone on what I imagine this 'Surron' - I am not so well versed with all sorts and types of 'ebikes' as you seem to be. (cont.)
>>2079801(cont.)When I see them they have a license plate as insurance and registration is required in my jurisdiction.Equally rarely I see some delivery indian who simply DIYed or souped one up, often to comical effect, like a guy zipoing along at 60 on a 20" foldable with throttle.>MTB BSOsMust be a very different situation in your place. In my place it's all step through frames with comically large frame tubes, 3" tires, front sus, mid motor, battery in the DT, deraileur shiftingy, plushy seat, and a computer on the bar.
>>2079798thanks!my whole philosophy with this build is just keep anything that works for me. the brake calipers are some low tier shimano from 87, no name just some serial number. but they stop just fine, so I never bothered to upgrade. I learned to use DTs on previous bikes so that's no problem, and this is not a performance machine, there wouldn't really be anything to gain by switching to STI. never considered there may not be room on the bar.( I did eventually put brifters on my fast bike when I completely overhauled it, they're great but I ride that one fast(er) for sport.)conversely, the stock gearing was not doing what I needed, so to change it I had to also change the RD and crank. but the FD is stock, it does the job still. stock wheelset (they're beasts), stock stem. rest of the cockpit custom as explained in the other thread. exactly what I need, nothing I don't. probably my favorite bike I ever owned.
>>2079801other than the meme belt drive "chainwheels" (which also appear on "normal" bikes rode by tryhards) those all look pretty normal to me. we've got a crank of unspecified standards, 2 belt drive chainrings, and some kind of mating bracket for ???. none of that appears on my ebike and is no more offensive than replacing wedged head tubes with stupid rigid ones that have to be sawn to the correct length and have a flower nut fitted for preload and other neo industry nonsense> In my place it's all step through frames with comically large frame tubes, 3" tires, front sus, mid motor, battery in the DT, deraileur shiftingy, plushy seat, and a computer on the bar.that is the standard Amazon Special type "city bike" but the mid-range bike shops (tr*k, gia*t, spe*h, etc) "pedelecs" are mostly road/"""gravel"""bikes with downtube batteries or the DUIcycle "pit bike but hub motor" style>Nowadays when I come into what is disguised as a bike shop I am met with boomers lined up waiting to hand over 5k for a 'pedelec',it's not ebikes doing this, the LBS is just shit. i have a few near me and none of them ever have parts or tools i need, and they dont even offer e-bikes and charge a huge premium to service them. local bike stores are just dogshit now>the tire choicesi think this is not any conspiracy and is just market forces colliding; ebikes became popular when fat bikes became popular, but independently. stupid people want one or the other, so they were combined. the obvious problems with fat bikes are compensated for by having a motor. even if ebikes were banned crackheads and tylers would still just ride acoustic fat bikes because they are stupid. but again this does not include electric dirt bikes, just the picrels>delivery indianswhere i live most places reject bike couriers so there's a constant stream of "delivery ready e-bikes" on marketplace lmao
>>2079801>I have only rarely seen someone on what I imagine this 'Surron' - I am not so well versed with all sorts and types of 'ebikes'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-M9LuRlbDUthese sorts of things. they do not even pretend to be bicycles and are straight up just electric dirt bikes but because most municipalities/provinces/states are fucktarted and despite being run by boomers with fond memories of their Trail Cub, they don't understand what mopeds were or are becoming. and everyone freaks the fuck out about a hub motor that develops less power than a dentist whilst fawning over 4.5kw 2-smoke kits as "self-reliance" and insisting that street takeovers on 650cc dual sports are genuine cultural enrichment, typing about it from the head unit of their car that they're driving on a suspended license with a 0.12 BAC
>>2079807>whatabout replacing HTshonestly I don't think any 'whatabout working on this and that part' furthers the discussion in any way and I can't get rid of the feeling you're insinuating that I had argued at any time ebikists must not discuss ebike service on bicycle forums or somethingBut regarding replacing HTs: I often turn down people when asked to replace tubes on a frame because it's a bit more involved than some think and very often not worth the frame / a new frame.Unless you're confusing HTs with steerer tubes which it sort of seems like. Again: Replacing steerer tubes is often not worth the fork but exceptions apply for some sought after bikes or MTB forks that arent brazed or welded but pressed or clamped. But anyways like I said I dont really seem to get how any of the 'but what about working on X bike part' relates to any of this. >the LBSWell the sad truth is: The LBS is gone. Most. Had a really nice experience recently. But 100 bad ones. On the other hand: They would be completely gone if they couldn't make bank ripping of boomers.>Amazon SpecialBoomers in your area really seem to ride very different things than in my area. I looked up the Surron in the meantime. I guess it's popular with young african americans? We don't have those here and I've never seen one. Only 50+yo on pedelecs where everything electric is fully integrated. The strapped on aesthetic vanished years ago.>conspiracyThe tires are not a conspiracy. My thoughts regarding tire size are that it's an effect of being freed from a need for efficiency but at the same time denied the spoils of efficiency.>most placesYou mean like shops? Here they all work for companies that specialize in the delivery service only or delivery supermarkets. Never a business directly.
>>2079807>>2079812U 2 GON FUK OR NAW?
>>2079812>I looked up the Surron in the meantime. I guess it's popular with young african americans?it's mostly wh*tes on them becuase they are genuinely expensive as fuck. you can get an equivalently powered gas dirt bike for half to 3/4 as much. a legit Surron™ at MSRP is like 8k. for scale, a Tao Motors 110cc dirt bike is like 2k, maybe less. and both are made in china. not like "lmao 'murrkan brand just assembled there KEK"; Surron is a proudly chinese brand DUI riders and other riff raff tend to get picrel types since they can be had for 1500bux or less and delivered right to your door mostly assembled. though even these are mostly bicycle parts on a repurposed pit (gas)bike frame
>>2079816absolute wild west type of shitpeople here seem more conservative and don't readily trust importsthey are literally all on identical>picrelIronically when I say 'conservative' and 'no trust' the boomers we get are in fact quite flexible in their opinions, one would always want to say opportunistic.>Battery powered item, especially car, is first introduced"TO HELL WITH IT IT DONT EVEN VROOM VROM AND EXPLODY FIRE NO RANGE TERRIBLE LITHIUM MINING">a little while later>electric bicycle"IM CYCLINGGG THIS IS CYCLING OUTTAWAY ITS SO GREAT IM A CYCLIST THE MOTOR DOESNT REALLY DO THAT MUCH IT ONLY COMPENSATES FOR THE BATTERIES WEIGHT ITS ONLY TO GET UP 90 DEGREE INCLINES"literally the same thing hapoened to our boomers when smartphones"KIDS ALWAYS ON THEIR PHONE">a little while later the boomer is now the nost phone addicted demographic
>>2079819d'ohpicrel
>>2079819>>electric bicycle>"IM CYCLINGGG THIS IS CYCLING OUTTAWAY ITS SO GREAT IM A CYCLIST"no one does this except for dentists on "assisted" tr*k annd spesh slop where the motors are anemic weak shit and the controllers have sharp yet weirdly delayed power deliverypeople on crummy but purpose-built ebikes are just slow motorcyclists indeed, same as people on old mopeds back when the "ped" part meant something. retarded boomers running the gubberment and their voter base among all demographics are just retarded and don't understand how to legislate things without specifically using brand names anymore (see also: retarded gun laws that ban the AR15 in its various forms by name specifically, but the Tavor TS-12 is available off a rack with just a photo ID saying you're over 18 and is, ironically, less expensive than a soon to be illegal in all 51 states e-bike)
>>2079639>"UX" branded bike>is a bad user experiencewhat did they mean by this
>>2079823yeah like I saidit's the only type of ebikist I'm getting over here and honestly I'm relatively glad it is sobut there's unironically only thatokay and maybe a one generation younger demographic on weird electric MTB that are ironically kitted out for DH.
>>2079669NTA but I think a big part of the bridgestone mystique is the grant cult of personality. Not that I wouldn't snatch up a deal on an XO-1 in a heartbeat. But while I could be wrong, I just suspect that a lot of the higher-end japanese production bikes would get you the same thing without paying for the hot name. Like stumpjumpers.>>2079786The mass adoption of the ebike by the vanilla amuhrikin shouldn't surprise me but it makes my head spin nonethelessFat hicks and normie boomers whose opinion on bikes in general ranged from somewhat bemused to virulently enraged now clog the streets and paths en masse on their ali express mopeds. It was never about the imagery of riding a bike, it was about the imagery of voluntarily exercising over the age of 15 ( fucking gay.) The kicker is that the ebike chuds are infinitely shittier on the road than the hipsters that used to make them foam at the mouth
>>2079669>Is the best thing about bridgestones that they were lightweight for steel bikes and very compliantI'm not sure either, but wouldn't those criteria be enough to make them desirable? they were known for making really nice steel bikes. I don't know what they did. I've never ridden one. but their reputation is probably well deserved. although yeah, there is a weird grant cult, unfortunately. but that happened after he left bridgestone with the rise of the internet, afaik.
>>2079852>ebike chuds are infinitely worseThis. You only need to realise and admit WHY this is next.>Fat chicksHen and egg or reasonably expectable correlation? Over here the ebike mania exclusively befalls the morbidly adipose. You ride around and fir every 4 'ebikes' you might see one bicycle at most. Normal cyclist on the bicycle but mid 50s, morbidly obese, le tank du pommes frittes on every single 'ebike' acting as obnoxious, dangerous and presenting as much of a disturbance as possible.
>>2079854>wouldn't those criteria be enough to make them desirableYeah it would be but it's more of a question. I don't know what is it about them that people love so much. I just think it's cool because it's a brand better known for tires so I like that aspect of it, same as I would like a panasonic bicycle.
not going to mass quote but much love to all the gt triple triangles itt>>2079737nice, I love a good mix of vintage and aliexpress>>2079761always a pleasure to seefrom today, got caught in a storm later. the only new thing are the long foam grips, one of my favourite upgrades so far
>>2079872WHY? Why this crime against a perfectly good bicycle?>road bike, 120+mm rear spacing, perfectly good>put in 'tark' flip flophub wheel, MTB pedals and the good old useless hipster strap.SUCH MASS START EVENT TARK BIK!!! only people who never raced on track do this
>>2079858well, if you're in the Grant cult, you can pick up a Bridgestone off craigslist from someone not in the grant cult for whatever an old steel roadie goes for, instead of buying a $1000+ Rivendell. so a bunch of people probably are into them for that reason. but, again, I don't think most of the cycling world knew who Grant was until the rise of the internet as we now know it, i.e. social media and phones
>>2079873>WHY?I had an embarrassingly long answer written but accidentally refreshed, so uhbecause it's fun
>>2079872>overpriced "race inspired" not actually aero but looks kinda aero modern tr*k knockoff "grabble byke" slop>throws straps on cheap oem pedals just using a couple of self-tappies and washerswhy though>>2079880your bars are installed incorrectly. also sex with that creature on the seat. but no part of the bike or its owner. yuck

>>2079908No. Eat shit.
>>2079908he means when hes sprinting its like having a feever dream about sex with a wet noodle in a molten marshmallow bath
>>2079884lmao you have no idea what you're talking about or looking at
>>2079880>no chain tension or way to tension the chain
>>2079928I think if you're really really braindead and somehow got too much money white industries or so made a very convoluted excentric axle rear hub that solves this very self inflicted problem.Or run one of those funny tensioners like some use on IGH bikes.Jokes aside, I hope this bike get's to be itself again soon before it's irrepairably damaged or ruined.
>>2079928>>2079930the magic ratio and the few mms of travel in diagonal dropouts is enough actually>I hope this bike get's to be itself again soon before it's irrepairably damaged or ruinedsounds transphobicbut seriously, the frameset would've gotten trashed if I hadn't bought it dirt cheap. now it gets ridden every day. I thought that's what bikes are for?
>>2079932>wouldve gotten trashedwhy? it looks fine>what bikes are forbikes with a deraileur hanger and a distinctively... roadbikeish geometry and appearance are for riding with a deraileur and drop bars... >transphobicwell it makes no sense. Like a man with a 'neovagina' can't give birth (pls don't link that one story) a road bike with tark... uh... well wannabe tark crankset or chainwheel maybe... won't ever be a 4k or sprint or madisson bike which is why youre riding around on it. It's just a worse bike than it had potential for, it was designed with intent. It can't live up to it's full potential instead it's deprived it's ergonomics and deraileurs and dragged down by shitty components. But you do you it's not like you're seeing it that way it seems.
Just finished building up this old 90s frame I rescued and repainted. Going to fit a couple of racks and use it for fishing and camping trips.
i like muh boikeI really can't think of a reason to upgrade it, maybe if I was a roadie I'd try carbon, but not now. I did a DIY carbon rear rack that I still need to attach a pack to, but otherwise I mostly ride as is.
>>2079944noice boik
>>2079941Why a brake booster only in the back?

Why does my bike get more dirty than other bikes when I ride crushed limestone? It is because the big tires create more turbulence and this whips up the dust from the crushed rock? Roadies I see on the trail aren't as dirty. I think its because they are more areo and cut through the air and the shitbikes I see are clean too because they dont go fast. here's my shitbox24 inch wheels old school full suspension steel frame MTBI have it set up as a road bikebecause I'm tall asf and this 24" bike is pretty much for children, i had to basically weld two seat posts together to be able to raise the seat to proper height for me.bike's pretty much done, i rebuilt all bearings, installed rear derailleur and front brake and that's it. i just have to repaint the frame, the stem and handlebars. the chinese shock is shot tho, only the spring functions. I may add a front shifter and rear brake at some point, tho, especially for winter to avoid faceplants with front braking on icethis bike was originally discarded into a nearby canal by my friend and i stole/picked it up and rebuilt everything with new parts. he was impressed and laughed his ass off when i told him two years later.gearing is old school, of course. 14-28 in the rear, 3x in the front but I'm using the biggest sprocket for now (didn't count teeth).it's good enough for my needs and gets the job done.pic 1

>>2082048pic 3you can see where I welded the seat post, I just wrapped it with electric tape to kinda hide it a bit.i'm using the aluminum bar ends as bullshorn handlebars, just need to put some cushioning like handlebar tape or some DIY shit instead
>>2082048>>2082049>>2082050Do you keep this thing for financial reasons? Why don't you find something bigger for yourself? I can find a frame in the trash within a week.
>>2082060Partially. Not looking to spend money on a bicycle, desu, got plenty of other hobbies for that. And I don't find newer bikes any better nor more interesting than these old ones. These are modular and infintely repairable. Welding steel is easy asf, cup-and-cone bearings everywhere, etc., unlike carbon fiber, propriatery-everything modern stuff that costs, well, too much for a machine as simple as a damn bicycle.I grew up with these old MTBs all around me, all of my friends rode these bikes and I have so many spare parts from my childhood that I have no need to buy anything new. Everything is so modular I find that very cool. You can take any older frame and turn it into any type of bicycle that you want for basically no money, like I did here.Only thing I'm looking for is this exact type of frame but for 26" wheel size and then I've reached my endgame. It has to be a full-suspension bike so no real "road" bicycles but yeah... that's the story.
>>2082062I'm not suggesting getting something new in carbon. You could easily find a steel bike in your size with 26 ot 700c wheels that won't have the unnecessary weight penalty of bso tier "suspension". I think literally any rigid frame would be an upgrade from what you're riding now.
>>2082062I didn't finish reading your reply. Why in the hell do you want a full suspension bike for the road. That isn't even real suspension, just coils that make you bounce around. Why do you like this?
>>2082062yeah, as anon said, that "suspension" is a penalty, even off-road it sucks. its problems are magnified using it on the road, it just steals your leg energy that should go into the drivetrain by bouncing around. also the 24s obviously make it too small for you but also they make you slower since each revolution covers only the circumference = less forward length. that's why, before chain drives introduced gear ratios, they built penny farthings, the giant wheel was the only way to get speed. you can ride in your biggest gear ratio but it will be limited to a smaller top speed than the same ratio on a normal sized road wheel. this is also why those tiny folding bikes all have gigantic chainrings on the cranks that are bigger than any road bike.I applaud reusing what you have available, but you put a ton of effort into something that doesn't really work for your use case.shine on you crazy diamond.
>>2082072>>2082068>>2082069Thanks for intelligent replies instead of just telling me I'm a dumb fuck. You guys are right, we all know that.I built this bike around 10 years ago and rode it everywhere. It then sat for about 8 years after I got my driver's license and got into cars and motorcycles. This has been my only complete bicycle, i.e., I have a lot of various parts (shifters, derailleurs, brakes, seats etc.) but only this frame is built into a complete rideable bike at the moment. So I spent an afternoon bringing it back into a good state and here we are. I rode it for less than 200 km since then. I'm just now starting to get into cycling as a hobby more seriously so yeah.>even off-road it sucksIt definitely isn't as efficient as a properly working shock, but it's undoubtedly nicer on my ass than a hard tail, that's for sure and because I often find myself on unpaved trails, it does the job.>I think literally any rigid frame would be an upgrade from what you're riding now.>it just steals your leg energy that should go into the drivetrain by bouncing aroundYes, correct. Of course it does, I can see it bouncing when I get into a strong pedaling rhythm. Yes, I'm losing power. So far, it's not been a big deal, but I'm still slowly getting into proper longer-distance road cycling so I'll probably change my mind after a few hundred kilometers of this.>I applaud reusing what you have availableYeah, that was kinda the point... It's the easy option. It was already there so I just cleaned it up, greased it up, and started riding again. I hate when people throw away things. I like to keep everything I have in good condition and repair everything myself. There's a pleasure in knowing something is mechanically healthy and ready to serve someone for the next few years. I like that very much.>You could easily find a steel bike in your size with 26 ot 700c wheelsDefinitely interested in that. 24" looks ridiculous for my height, that's why I posted it here.
>>2082073Do you keep your used toilet paper too?
>>2082074Snobbery detected, opinion discarded.I'm very very bored rn so I'll bite, here we go.It's a functioning bicycle, it gets me around. It works. I'm not gonna change it for the next few weeks/months, for sure.If it's not up to your "modern cyclist" standards, I'm sorry. For the price of a new modern bike -- the kind that modern lycra-wearing, dick-loving fag "cyclists" (or rich dentists) buy in droves -- I can buy at least two or three fully functioning and registered used motorcycles and ride them with a flick of the wrist, no fucking pedalling needed, thanks, I'm good, I'm keeping my $2-10k for something that's *actually* worth that money.Hobby cyclists, ie people not participating in real races, paying a few grand for a fucking bicycle are mostly gullible consoomers who have fallen for the modern bike industry's masterful marketing strats, hook, line and sinker.None of us here need fucking aero seat posts, for fuck's sake. All this aero shit, IMO, is done so that shit is propriatery and supposedly "pro" and everyone wants to be like the pros, right? Sure, the pros do benefit from every little thing that's on a $15k bike, but you have no need to squeeze every last bit or aero drag on your hobby rides. And the bike industry exploits people's desire to be like the pros. If that stopped, bike prices would collapse down to a fraction of what they are now. There's no universality and modularity across brands anymore, afaik. All done to take power away from the consumer under the guise of "pros need this so you want it too". This is not just exclusive to the biking industry, just look at all the modern online subscription bullshit, and the corpos desire to prevent people from repairing their own shit.Anyway, I got carried away. I'mma keep riding my shit bike. Chances are my grandchildren will one day ride it too.In any case I'm open to discussion.Or just tell me I'm a fag.I don't mind. It's fuckin 4chan after all.
>>2082075there are a ton of metal framed bikes from the 80s, 90s and 00 that don't have any proprietary parts on them available at firesale prices. even a midling one of them would smoke yours. there's a giant gap between being a lycrafag on new carbon and whatever your thing is that's filled with good, cheap bikes.it sounds like you put only an afternoon into getting your bike running so viewed that way and just for keeping useful stuff running, you've succeeded on that level. but you aren't acknowledging how vast the in-between is from this binary you've created in your head.the potential pitfalls are buying something cool in the wrong frame size, and many old road frames and forks were built to super skinny tire clearances. but not all. I have a road bike from 88 that has 32s and still room for fenders. and a bike from 91 that is on 28s right now. I'm not sure if 30s would fit or not but I like the 28s.
>>2082076>but you aren't acknowledging how vast the in-between is from this binary you've created in your head.Yeah, you're right, I attacked this idea of $10k bikes as if it's the only option. I just happen to not see much bikes in my area at all apart from the kind similar to mine so I'm biased. Also been watching a lot of GCN on YT lately (and a few other more pro-oriented channels) and seeing them pushing these expensive asf bikes as if it's completely normal to spend that kind of money on a fuckin bicycle really pisses me off as someone who's into motorcycles as well. It's absurd. I had to vent about this shit somewhere lol so that's the reasoning behind that.>I have a road bike from 88 that has 32s and still room for fenders. and a bike from 91 that is on 28s right now.You have any pics of those? 90s vehicles of all types are my kinda thing. I very rarely see such bikes IRL in my area.>I'm not sure if 30s would fit or not but I like the 28s.Do you have a 30" wheel set to try fitting it in? Only one way to find out..
>>2082077I'm referring to the widths here. old road bikes had skinny high pressure tires and insane gear ratios that not even the pros used anymore. a lot of sweet old road bikes were meant for 19-23mm wide tires. you change the gear ratios with different cranks and cassettes/freewheels and longer cage rear derailleurs, but frame clearance you're stuck with. luckily there's still roadies from then like mine with more clearance but you have to look out for that because it can be a deal-breaker. some anons still report liking the narrow tires. I'd avoid them but it's not necessarily the end of the world. I rode 23s for years but I wouldn't go back to that now that I know.for reference, the pro peloton is now on 28mm almost to a man, and most new road bikes start at 32.
>>2082078or you could get a rigid 90s or later MTB and put slick tires on it. there were some hybrid models that took 700c wheels like road bikes that are really desirable for that reason. they mostly get sold at old MTB prices because most people think old=bad and are just trying to get it out of their garage. there's some in this thread, I think the green specialized with swoopy tubes is on 700c?
Just look at her

>>2082073>>2082075Well I can't fault someone for doing something just to do it. If you apply yourself you could easily find a frame that fits you for free. This bike here was mostly found in the trash or 5-10 parts. Only exception is the drivetrain which was bought for other bicycles and I Frankensteined a 9 speed cassette put of a 10 speed one on a 7 speed hub and am using an 8 speed derailleur. Have it on friction. If you get a 90s hybrid you could also fit some fat tires in there that will make the ride cushier. You did kind of make me want to try one of those full sus bso bikes.
>>2082079Yes my green specialized is 700c. I have a 50mm tire in front and a 45mm in the back. I plan to dimple the inside of the chainstays to fit 50mm front and back. This rust bucket is also mine >>2082082 and I fit 700c 50mm front and back by di.pling the chainstays but it wasn't a great job. I want to be more careful with the crossroads. Btw the rusty frame is a Giant Option.
>>2082078>old road bikes had skinny high pressure tires Yeah, that's a distinct look that I always noticed whereas MTBs had wide and knobby tires.>luckily there's still roadies from then like mine with more clearanceThat's great, wider tires are certainly more comfy than the old school thin stuff.>you could get a rigid 90s or later MTB and put slick tires on it.I may just have a rigid frame from 15 years ago somewhere in my backyard collecting dust, I'll have to try to find it. You guys have really convinced me to try building (or buying) a rigid bike now.>they mostly get sold at old MTB prices because most people think old=bad and are just trying to get it out of their garage. If I don't find that rigid frame in my backyard, I'll check out FB marketplace, there's gotta be something cheap for me for sure.>>2082080Very nice looking bike, this thing is like the sweet spot between a road and offroad bike.>>2082081Depends very much on the type of motorcycle, certainly, but again, I like the older bikes from 1980-2008 at most, so that means used. Also, if you're looking at legal dirt bikes (aka enduro aka dual-sport), you're looking at no more than $5k for a solid bike in great condition, at least in my area. Even $5k is a stretch and one can find awesome 250cc enduro bikes for like $3k in great condition with not a lot of mileage. Early 2000s sport bikes with low mileage like 600cc inline fours can be picked up for no more than $8k. As an amateur cyclist, there's no fucking way I can possibly rationalize spending that kinda money on a bicycle vs a motorcycle. But I can see a little bit where the mentality comes from. Come to think of it, I can really see why people go for a new pricey bicycle, I was just mainly pissed off at the way these bikes are marketed to amateurs who really don't need that caliber of a bicycle.
>>2082082>This bike here was mostly found in the trashAnd now look at it, fully functional and looks like a real bike. I like that shit, it's a waste to just let it rot in some landfill. Someone can make use of it.>You did kind of make me want to try one of those full sus bso bikes.I don't get this BSO label. It's a real bike. I removed all the junk plastic brakes 10 years ago and installed quality brake parts. All shifters and derailleurs are Shimano. The suspension on my bike that is supposedly a BSO is only bad because the shock is fucked from old age, the seal went to shit and I don't have a new one. If I pick up a new shock of the same dimensions and I rebuild the fork too (replace the seals and refill with oil), it's a proper full sus bike with new quality parts. The BSO label no longer applies, I guess. But I cannot be bothered, the spring alone is good enough for my off-road needs.Go for it, it's fun. I never liked rigid bikes because I was always somewhere off road, even if it's the 20 meters on grass to get to the paved road, I hated it. Your ass will thank you lol>7 speed hub and am using an 8 speed derailleur.Yeah, I also did something similar, I have a 6 speed Shimano SIS shifter but a 7 speed freewheel on the back so indexing is a bit off but I can get into every gear pretty cleanly. Again, it works. Not worth the effort to seek out new parts to match everything together. It's a hobby, I ain't getting paid to shave off seconds.
>>2082084Comparing new vs old isn't fair. You can get a less than a decade old pro bicycle for like 1.5k if you search a little.>As an amateur cyclistriding a BSO for 200 miles doesn't make you an amateur cyclist desu>I was just mainly pissed off at the way these bikesMost bicycle marketing is price anchoring. They will shill you the most expensive superbike so that the less expensive models seem like a reasonable deal
>>2082085You should just switch to friction shifting. It's a lot of fun and you can changes speeds very quickly and you don't have to worry anymore about shifting compatibility
>>2082085>BSO label no longer appliesYour rear shock is just a coil. Your frame is made to copy a Trek Y frame and is made of aluminum and probably weighs as much as a chromo frame. I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if your frame was steel and used oversized tubes to look like alloy. Your front shocks is outdated by even 90s standards. I doubt that either of them is from rockshox or fox so yes they fit squarely into the BSO category of parts. Now I'm not saying any of this to shit on you, but to really clarify that yes your bike is a BSO. You may have updated some parts on it, but those "full suspension" frames can't be lifted out of BSO territory.
haven't posted on this board before but here's my bike.Just got it and it's my first bike that actually fits me, I've had an old mongoose since I was ten otherwise.
>>2082095oh wow, a Raleigh Capri. I got one left at my apartment building and fixed it up for sale a while ago. the one I had was pretty close to BSO territory, the rear derailleur was some off-brand with plastic on it but the bike cleaned up and rode pretty well. congrats on a roadie that fits you. dial in the saddle height and position before you fuck with the stem and bars. yours looks really nice.
>>2082075this but unironically, except also motorcycles are fucktrociously expensive for no reason too now so imma cop a cheap surron once all the marketplace boomers doing babbys first import-export dump them after my city bans them (and then i will simply put turn signals and a plate on it)

>>2082108>I really want a new gravel bike with hydraulics, carbon fork and cues maybe. What’s keeping you from doing it?
>>2082087>riding a BSO for 200 miles doesn't make you an amateur cyclistWell, semantics. I just got into this more seriously for the first time in my life, dunno what else to call myself. The point was "not pro". Not living and breathing cycling, nor spending more than 2h a day on a bike. Sorry if the term "amateur cyclist" has a very specific meaning, English isn't my first language. "Casual cyclist" may fit better.>>2082092My frame is steel indeed, which I actually like, idgaf about weight, I want it to be weldable easily. I can weld aluminum too but I'm just not as good as with steel.>I doubt that either of them is from rockshox or fox Fork says RSL on it (not visible in pics), don't know if that's Rockshox or not.>Your frame is made to copy a Trek Y frame Now this piece of information is something that I needed in my life. Because I always wondered where do these bikes come from. I looked it up and picrel look so fucking unbelieveably SICK, wish I had one of those.>Now I'm not saying any of this to shit on youYeah, I know, don't worry.>but to really clarify that yes your bike is a BSO.I grew up on these bikes. I'm pretty sure that I've never even seen a "non-BSO" famous-brand bike in my life here in my area. This is all I know. It's normal to me. I'm not like you guys. The bikes around me are functional and durable and I never had any problems with manufacturing defects or bad quality or anything like that, besides, it's a fucking bicycle, any possible mechanical problem that can happen, I can repair myself. So that's my reasoning. Also, most of these bikes have Shimano and Tektro parts so I've been never seeing it as a problem that the frames are some random off-brand, as long as it's steel, there's not much an off-brand can do to "ruin" a frame. It's the simplest part of the bike: a few tubes welded together with pressed in bearing cups. I don't give a shit about the frame brand. It's the parts that you put on it that matter.
>>2082095That's a cool bike, but the seat looks so uncomfortable lolAlso what about that Kawasaki behind it? I see it's an older dual sport single cyl, what is that?

Nothing was intended as bait tho, but just my genuine opinions that "the cycling community" finds, let's say "odd".I knew my bike is a shit show, that's why I posted it lol but I do stand behind everything I wrote above.
>>2082113I'm genuinely happy for you that you find enjoyment in your bike and you're really doing much better than most people , me included, who are wrapped up in the consumer mindset. I actually wonder if you could get an airshock to replace the coil you have in the back. You would then have actual nice rear suspension. RST I think is on the level of suntour. They equip cheap store bikes, they also make genuine budget friendly real forks. Really most forks weren't great until air forks came along that actually worked and because it was air that was used instead of coils they don't weigh a ton.
>>2082118>wrapped up in the consumer mindset.I have other hobbies where I'm a bit in the consoomer mindset, "I need what the pros have" type thing, for sure, but definitely not cycling. In my parts collection, I have a legit Top Gun 24" fork from 1998, which looks exactly like picrel, that I'm thinking of putting in place the one you see in pics in >>2082049. I think it might be in much better condition than what I'm using now but I just wasn't bothered enough to spend an hour doing the swap to try it.And I've been on a lookout for new rear shock. If I find something, I'll certainly swap this piece of junk immediately. I was just saying that, personally, I find even a simple spring better than a hard tail.
>>2082119I get it I guess. I haven't ridden a double suspension bike since I was a kid. I'm kind of used to a fully rigid bike and honestly enjoy it more. Yes there's more road chatter and offroading is more technical but I actually prefer it like that. There's a kind of fun to it. I guess if you don't mind the weight penalty and losing power because of the rear shock for the comfort it provides you, then who is anyone to tell you what you should do. If you do get a fully rigid bike, get the fattest balloon tires you can fit in the frame and then find a saddle that absorbs road chatter. Maybe something like a chinese brooks c17 rip off or even a leather one. I got this saddle of AliExpress and it's insane how much road vibration is absorbs. It has pretty much no padding but it kind of works like a plastic hammock, kind of like a c17. I'm genuinely surprised how comfortable this saddle is.
>>2082120And I haven't ridden a rigid bike since I was a kid lol and I always dreamed of a full sus bike so once I got this frame, I was just blown away by the softness lol. At some point, I will switch to a rigid road bike, for sure. I'm just having fun with this thing for now, living my childhood dreams out lolThanks for the seat recommendation very much, I own a lot of old school seats and still haven't found the perfect one. I'll check out the chinese stuff, it's certainly worth a try for that price.
>>2082121I didn't find the saddle comfortable at first. After some riding and breaking in I genuinely love it. As with something as personal with saddles, what works for me might not work dor you.

>>2082127 (ME)is it ok to mount the headlight on that plastic bridge thing on the fork?
>>2082114It used to be some super padded monstrosity but the padding and cover rotted off, leaving just the hard plastic. It is very uncomfy. The bike is just a first gen KLR.>>2082097I think the saddle height is decent for now but after I get a new saddle I'll try slightly raising it until it gets uncomfortable. My leg is at almost full extension with the pedal at 6 o'clock.
>>2082131I don't see why you couldnt as long as it didn't interfere at full suspension travel. But don't people try to lower unsprung mass? And your light would be bouncing around as much as the wheel without the suspension dampening it.
>>2082131That part is generally alloy not plastic. Some forks have an eyelet there, but like the other anon said you would just have your light bouncing around. If you really want to install a light in a low position you can put a star nut in on the underside of the fork tube and have some sort of metal piece come out and hold your light. As long as you don't bottom out your suspension it would be fine.

>>2082113>wish I had one of thoseTrek immediately discontinued them because they sucked and every single BSO company in the world started cranking them out by the thousands because retards who don't know anything about bikes (their target demographic) think they look SICK.
>>2082132>My leg is at almost full extension with the pedal at 6 o'clockgood, now play around with fore-and-aft. it affects the leg extension slightly as well, so you may need to readjust the height. personally I keep pushing the saddle forward. I get used to the new position and then it feels better even more forward. I don't know if that's common. the fore-and-aft can affect the stem reach so getting it in the ballpark is important before you do anything with the cockpit including swap stems, assuming you even end up needing to.anyway, I'm still tinkering with the fit of my first drop bar bike and I'm still discovering things
>>2082132it's an entry level model, which actually has one huge advantage: the frame and fork have clearance for very wide tires. it looks like there's 32mm/1¼" on there right now, which is dope. the skinny tires on "better" bikes back then were thought to be faster, which we now know is not true, and also wider is way more comfortable.the frame is Raleigh gaspipe tubing, they have a decal that's supposed to fake you out to think it's cromoly, it's designed to resemble the decals of Reynolds tubing, but it's actually straight-gauge gaspipe. oh well, but whatever. the wheels look like chromed steel so a bit heavier than alu (but again, whatever) but the problem with them is the grip from the brake pads disappears when wet. those look like the original block pads which have turned to stone by now. get some Kool Stop salmon compound pads on there, which work best in wet. they have a good deal on a set that comes with cartridge pads and the metal holders included so that you can slide the worn pads in and out without having to do a full brake job, which is an annoying job to get rid of squeaks every time. you'll have to bolt on the metal+pad and get them adjusted right once, and then never again. in any event, get some good pads on there pronto. there may be some special compound you can get for steel rims, might be worth checking into.you may be able to bolt a smaller chainring on the crank for spinnier gears if you are having to mash during hill climbs. it looks like there's some room between the bolt circle and the current ring for a smaller gear. but if not, you'd have to replace the crank for one with a smaller bolt circle if that's worth it to you. those hex head bolts on the chainrings are unusual, usually the bolts accept an allen wrench. so hopefully it's not some archaic design and you can use a normal new ring. whenever they wear down enough they'll have to be replaced anyway so it would be nice to not have to buy a new crank at that point, too.
>>2082075i agree with you, i spend a lot of time repairing and modifying/breaking down 80s and 90s, up to mid 2000s bikes. but god damn bro, i woulda put that thing on the curb for a crackhead, and ive put some time into some shit bikes. For the love of god - nobody is saying buy a Colniggero or Looki. a decent double butted 26" mtb in a 22" is at least safe, no chance am i trusting that top tube and retarded amount of post. Can probably find a decent one for 30$ or less at a scrap yard, where I find many of my project bikes.
my bikes>>2080936very nice best itt
>>2082214why did you go electric on the fast bike? if anything, go powered on the utility build. but fuck ebikes, but if you're going to do it...I mean, if you just want to go fast, get a motorcycle. why get a powered road bike?
>>2082215Are you sure it's powered and not just shaped like that for aero?
>>2082214are there two guys with foils now?
>>2082217I'm not. but the tells for ebikes are: the battery is housed in an extremely fat downtube and the motor is housed under a huge built-out bottom bracket. I've never seen a bike that looks like it that wasn't electric. if it's not, that's an extremely unfortunate look.pic related is electric and is not even as obvious looking as the Scott
>>2082221>I've never seen a bike that looks like it that wasn't electricHalf of modern aero bikes have fat downtubes and huge bottom brackets...
>>2082221I'm surprised there's even a market for that. I guess if you want to make other roadies think you're some sort of legend>>2082222Yeah that's what I thought too. First though looking at that Scott is "aero abomination", not ebike.
>>2082222>>2082223huh, well lesson learned but it looks super gay
>>2082221>the battery is housed in an extremely fat downtubeplenty of normal bikes have fat downtubes for muh aero and usually they have a cutout for the battery or some other way to disassemble the frame if there is oneeven on sealed chinesium crap not meant to be serviced, there needs to be a way to get it together in the first place
>>2082224I agree. I do like his steel bike though
>>2082219Seems that way if there is another>>2082224It's fast, you should try one. Weighs 15.4lbs as it sits. Looks be damned>>2082233Thanks anon is a good bike
>>2082237>ebike
>>2082237No shade on the foil. Just not my thing. I do believe it's fun to ride so who cares if someone doesn't like how it looks. I don't like how some performance cars look either but I'll be a liar if I said I wouldn't want to try one. Same for the foil. My bikes are the first ones in the thread so I just like skinny steel tubes and 90s crap.
>>2082237I like the nice touch of the colored valves to compliment the tires, but at the same time you definitely could have kept that going a little bit throughout the build. just a small accent or two on the components would go a long way, especially when you're spinning. I just really hate the trend lately to strip away or mute color into nonexistence. color is personality, and I don't believe that bikes should have to be reduced down to just how expensive or optimized they are.
>>2082215>has shit bikes>is retardedmany such cases
>>2082138>Trek immediately discontinued them because they suckedI quote:"The “Y” frame mountain bike was introduced in 1995. In both design and construction, it was unlike any full-suspension mountain bike ever seen, and the lightest mountain bike frame ever made. It won an “Outstanding Design and Engineering Award” from Popular Mechanics magazine. Trek’s inventive use of carbon fiber influenced the design of mountain bikes for years to come."

Sorry for NDS.
>>2082241The paint looks wild in the sun, has an oil slick thing going on. Definitely not muted :D maybe you'd like it
>>2082219yes
>>2082248ok, so why did they discontinue it, then? furthermore, why does no reputable company built Y bikes now, and why are the ONLY companies currently making them BSOs?

>>2082257ohh shoot yeah you're right, that looks sick!I've always been partial towards front to back fades lol
>>2082108looks absolutely sick, I would never suspect it being chinesium if it passed me
>>2082261>What is technological advancement
>>2082264I thinkk it was a touring model, but I'm not sure. I got it second hand off craigslist from a guy who hadn't ridden it in 10 years. and yeah the seat setback is ridiculous lol I've since fixed it and replaced the saddle w/ a memey carbon one but that was the only good photo I had of the drive side.
>>2082264pic from my ride this morning. I also got sick of not having any cable housing on the brake cable running under the top tube, so I got a little salvaged pink housing from probably a little girl's bike. it kinda bugs me that the housing leading from the cockpit to the toptube is still the old black stuff but I didn't want to unwrap and re-wrap when I don't have any more black tape

I road to a town that no longer exists. Saw the historical marker and everything. It's at a restaurant area on the trail. Very exciting. They have portashitters there too.
>>2082276noice crackendale
>>2082261>why did they discontinue it, then?Again, I quote:"The reason they were discontinued is because Trek didn't market it well. They marketed the frame toward road racers. Ironically as of 1999, UCI ruled that all road race frames be at least two triangles. That meant that a racer couldn't race on a Y-Foil. Trek saw this and discontinued the road bike lineup. They still made Y-Foil Mountain bikes and did well with them. However, exotic looking bikes are fads- they get played out in a short amount of time- especially amongst the MTB crowd. 1998 Y Foils are called the 66 models and 1999 ones are called the 77 models I believe. There's a shop by my house that has three Y-Foil frames hanging in the shop. I asked the owner if they were for sale and he said they are for display only. Nothing is wrong with them but he says these frames are an example of great engineering beyond hindered by politics."
>>2082274I'm glad you agree with me that Y bikes suck
>>2082277your chainstay looks like it got hit by a car.are you sure those aero bars are high enough?
>>2082296>we promise they were awesome but MTBers just quit buying the best built bike ever made because of fads and bad marketing extreme doubt.
This is an all-wheel drive bicycle. The hand pedals don't contribute all that much force, since arms have only ¼ the strength of leg muscles. The key advantage of hand pedals is that arm muscles can apply torque consistently through 360° of rotation, which is especially useful for climbing hills. My knees hurt when I pedal standing up. I bought this bicycle specifically so I could remain seated while climbing hills.
>>2082312>My knees hurt when I pedal standing upyou're not supposed to?if your saddle is positioned right then you get full leg extension while seated. you just keep gearing down until you can spin uphill. if you're still struggling on your local terrain, you can tweak your drivetrain to give you lower gearing. grabbing forward on the bars/hoods helps. I actually like using the drops on all but the worst hills since it gives me a stiff arm to brace against.but anyway I still think this is cool. you brace your chest on that seat thing? what is the advantage of the seat-tube saddle with no nose? is it weird keeping track of gearing on two separate drive trains? how do the do the user interface so you can keep track of everything?I assume you live in an alpine region?
>>2082313>do the do the user*how do they do
>>2082313The bicycle came with a normal saddle, and I switched to a wide noseless saddle, because I discovered it works well with this bicycle. The ergonomics of using the hand pedals and foot pedals together results in a slightly altered sitting posture where I rest my weight on my thighs while pedaling. I picked out the extra wide noseless saddle for resting weight on my thighs. The chest pad is necessary to pull on the hand pedals. You can push on the hand pedals without it, though. The highest speed is achieved using a full body motion that resembles the butterfly stroke.
>>2082315far out, man
>>2082312You could have just gotten an xc mtb but that thing is nutz and I approve
>>2082312wait, why is it a double crank but no derailleur for it? even if it had one, it'd need a third shifter and the two you have control the derailleurs on the wheels, there's nowhere to easily put a third lever and also that's way too much to keep track of.do you just pull over and move to a different chainring by hand? is it an aftermarket crank and you just didn't bother to take off the ring you don't use?
>>2082315>kudzuwhere in Appalachia is this?
>>2082342The double crank is useless because there isn't a corresponding double crank on the handlebar. The hand pedals and foot pedals work best when they are synchronized, but the big chainring puts the foot pedals in a higher gear than the hand pedals. As a matter of fact, you just gave me the idea to try buying a bigger chainring for my handlebar!>>2082343I'm too far north for kudzu. Those are riverbank grapes.
>>2082344>The double crank is useless because there isn't a corresponding double crank on the handlebaryeah, that's what I'm asking: why did it come with a double with no means to use it?
>>2082345The bicycle was designed and built in Miami, and I think the flat terrain of Florida influenced the design. The creators of the bicycle often use the big chainring in their promotional videos, which appears to work okay on flat terrain, but even in their videos it's apparent that it doesn't synchronize well with the hand pedals. The small chainring synchronizes almost perfectly and is appropriate for climbing hills. There's a new and improved model with hand shifters now, but the double crank has not been updated at all.
>>2082344That is so wild I need to try one some day

>>2082369>We hid all your cables and routes them through the headset and made everything worse>Cyclists: please take our money!
>>2082307unironically i could see people dropping them because of the shitty knockoffs making the frame style go from looking novel to looking cheap and mass-produced. >>2082349i fixed one of these for a neighbor and it was really bad. they're mostly competently put together from a purely manufacturing standpoint but the seating position sucks for actually pedalling it and they are not particularly fast on battery alone
>>2082372>>2082359I mean for a days worth of work it was a good bike, I would have preferred a model with suspension

>>2082349DO NOT store it in the house. Those battery packs in particular explode all the time, scores of examples are well documented. My mate has a cheapo chinky ebike, he runs a cable into the garden and charges the battery under his brick bbq. Only puts it on the bike when he takes it out, removes before entering the house. But then he has kids, so his risk awareness is ultra switched on.
