what is the VIA Toronto - Sarnia train like?this must be one of the least relevant termini of a passenger route in North America
>>2080119I ride it relatively frequently, end to end, in Business class (VIA's business class is the same seating as economy, but you get your own car, included meals and drinks, and various other soft perks)The train leaves Sarnia once per day at 08:40 and arrives in Toronto Union at around 13:30 before departing again at 17:40, scheduled return is 22:24 but it is usually delayed on the westbound.The tracks between London and Kitchener are highly degraded with 30-50km/h speeds being typical. This train takes the north route (of GO Kitchener/Stratford/London fame) which is a bit of a milk run.A majority of passengers seem to use it as an alternative to the GO Kitchener line, or as an alternative timeslot for Toronto-London. The Business car becomes nearly empty west of London.Apparently, in the past, there used to be many more daily Toronto-Sarnia services, along with a service continuing to Chicago. The 8* series of train numbers was reserved for Sarnia termini, but today, all except for 84/87 terminate in London.Additionally, hot meal service in Business is not provided on the eastbound due to the lack of catering facilities in Sarnia (which is an unmanned station - it does have a functional and fairly large shelter though).It's a lifeline for me, and incredibly secluded and comfy to take it in Business, but a rather fragile service that I can't imagine is going to stay around in its current form forever.

I have no idea if it was VIA or GO because everything said both but I guess it's the same tracks? this was like 2001 ish and the interior of the train looked like the inside of an airplane but more space. very modern, at least then. I thought it was great. the scenery is just midwestern boringness as noted earlier.
>>2080130I don't know if it was different back then, but nowadays GO pretty much just covers the extended Greater Toronto Area - they don't go further west than Stratford (they did London for a while, but discontinued due to the aforementioned track issues).Would be neat if anyone has pics of VIA corridor car interiors of that vintage. Were they already using the LRCs at that point? I'm partial to the current interior they have in the LRCs, which are sadly being phased out in favor of the Apple-Store Venture cars..
