You could have properly enclosed compartments, a place to go to get food & drink at any time, a consistently paced ride without ever having to stop for traffic (assuming good rail infrastructure), bathrooms that are guaranteed to exist and be functional and larger than a shoebox. Had to take a 2 hour bus trip once because the train drivers where on strike. I was so fucking exhausted after that journey that I couldn't bring myself to do anything the rest of that day. They're only useful for inner city travel where you can hop off after a few minutes.
