But as you get older, you're going to want more and more of a ratio of downtime to active time during vacations. Maybe it starts as a day at the hotel recovering from your flight. But the downtime is a spectrum and it shifts.For me, a train ride is a nice way to shift the downtime. If I'm going to be crashing at the hotel for a day or two rest anyways, I'd rather have a hotel where the scenery is changing the entire time. Plus the lack of Wi-Fi and cellular data helps me transition into not dealing with work or my computer gaming addiction, so I'm ready to focus on the time at my destination.At the extreme end of the spectrum is cruise ships, when people get so old they want the entire trip to be "the hotel" with just brief activities that they can take it or leave it.

I feel that a lot of it is pandemic-era vibes more than practical reality, but there's still something quite nice about going to sleep somewhere, and then waking up somewhere else.

>>2081979That's an Amtrak "roomette", so it has its own door. Amtrak doesn't have shared/berth style sleeper compartments anymore, which is a shame because even roomettes are fuckoff expensive compared to any European berth style sleeper. Hell I paid to block out an entire bank of berths in Europe and it was still cheaper than a similar distance trip on Amtrak.

>>2082124Yeah I wish the roomettes were cheaper, I'd take the train everywhere if they were. Apparently if you book a normal seat you can put yourself into a lottery somehow to get upgraded to a roomette day of trip but that's a big risk if you don't get one.
