I want to start riding together with my kid and to do that we need to drive out to trails. Do I need a bike rack or can I just take the front wheel off and fit an adult bike and a child bike in the back of a Subaru? What bike racks do you recommend? Ideally roof mounted so I don't have to shill out another $1000 for a hitch.
>>2082677>can I just take the front wheel off and fit an adult bike and a child bike in the back of a Subaruif it's a hatchback/crossover you should be fine.you can fit it in a somewhat smaller space by also removing the back wheel, but whether that's enough to get it and the kid in a sedan depends, although at that point it might fit in the trunk
>>2082678It's an SUV but the problem is I can't fold the seat back since kids have to ride in the back with a booster. It might work if I fold half of the back seat? Just wanna know how other people handle this when they drive their bikes out.
Also we are not serious cyclists so I'm hoping to invest as little money into this as possible.
>>2082679I mean how the fuck should we know? open the back of your SUV and try to put your bike in it. remove wheels as necessary.there should be plenty of room
I fit my XL 700c hybrid into the back of my old Accord by dropping the backseat and taking off the front wheel and seatpost. I once fit my xl frame 26" bike at the bottom of my trunk by taking off the wheels and seat post and then fitting the bags of 4 people for a weekend trip to a lake house and obviously having 3 passengers, so no seats down. The '07 accord does have a huge trunk though.
>>2082677If you don't want to get a trailer hitch (which is nowhere near $1K if you get one installed at UHaul) you can get a one that hangs on the tailgate but they're still pretty pricey https://realtruck.com/p/thule-outway-hanging-trunk-bike-rack/thu-994005/?srsltid=AU7gw4VquB0EZBnPH1Glf71RiXoKrQfnLPNVvsZ5LRzNcZx7QoAq9J7N
