Regular low end brand name allen keys for $15 are more than fine for working on a bike
You can get plenty of cheap tools off AliExpress
Parktool is rarely worth it but occasionally it's the only thing worth buying for the job.
If you have access to decathlon they sell plenty of great tools
>>

you pretty much need a chain tool. even if you use a quick link to service your chain, you need the tool to size new chains to your bike.
a chain checking tool. I bought Park since theirs is cheap anyway and I wanted a reputable name since the whole point is the calibration needs to be very accurate.
metric allen wrenches, obviously.
beyond that, just some regular wrenches/sockets and screwdrivers will do the bare essentials.

I've accumulated a lot more tools over the decades since I'm good at wrenching and buying the tool is cheaper/equivalent to a shop repair price once and then any additional use is "free".
you will eventually need more stuff but I just buy it when I need it.
Park is great but nowadays there's a lot of options. Pedros is reputable, and their tire levers will get the tightest fitting tires on when all other brands will fail (most tires you can use the absolute cheapest but if not, Pedros.)
speaking of, if you don't run tubeless with sealant, you need to carry spare tube, patches, small pump, and levers.
it's best to have a floor pump with a gague at home. you can just get whatever for the best deal and then upgrade to the nice Park dual head with the metal lever, it's definitely worth it but the stock head is probably fine.
regular "end nippers" from the hardware store work great for cutting cable and housing and are way cheaper/available than a good bike brand of cable cutters

chain whips are pretty shitty.
of all the bike tools that I own, the one that I love most is my pedro's vise-whip. there are other things that are better than a normal chain whip but this is the one that I have and I love it like a lost son.

They do suck but I made mine for free so I don't mind

or you can buy the correct size chain to begin with
didn't read the rest because the first line is wrong

Chain wrench.
Fragile and useless. Use a steel pipe and an old 1x chain.

Hex/Torx key
Don't buy sets. Buy individual parts that you actually need. Shitty wrenches WILL round your bolts.

Bb removal:
Depends what you have. You can spend millions and still miss the right tool for the job.

Trueing table
Basically essential, basically unobtainable for an amateur mechanic.
POSSIBLE 4 contact points spoke wrenches.

GOOD CLIPPERS
20 BUCKS minimum and you ONLY use them for installing new cables and hoses.

LOTS OF BOXES FOR SPARE PARTS.
You will need that single barrel adjuster from that broken derailleur that you threw away last summer.

YOUTUBE.
For building your own special bike tool that you can buy for 120 bucks or build yourself for 10 (like a frame alignment tool).

Meme or not?
>>
>>2083780
they're fine I guess but just taking it off and shaking it in a jar of mineral spirits etc is quicker and easier
>>
>>2083780
The plastic cracks and it will leak. It works well but personally I just wipe my chain with a rag and call it good
>>
>>2083780
It works okay if you're not wanting to uncouple the chain, comes in handy for doing a quick clean then relube.
>simple green concentrate
>hot water (160F)
>1:3 solution (simple green : hot water) to the fill line

If your chain is heavily greasy/dirty, has a gummy tacky texture to it like it's putty, then it's easier to proceed uncoupling the chain, shake it in a jar of degreaser to thoroughly clean it. Rinse with water to get the excess degreaser off, promptly dry, reinstall on bicycle, add wax lube or whichever of your choosing.

>regular "end nippers" from the hardware store work great for cutting cable and housing
i just use mini-bolt cutters like picrel

anyone who buys park shit is a retard though. they're half-decent tools at heirloom prices. absolute retardation to pay like 59.99 for a fucking allen key set or some shit

>>2083780
case in point, not only can you get chink equivalents of these with better designed spiral brushes for 99 cents, even those are a complete meme AND muc-off makes one too that's way better and like 1/10 the price if you >NEEED it to be lycrafag branded. just dont use actual muc-off solution with it
>>
>>2083753
>Chain checking tool
All you need is a run-of-the-mill ruler (or, if you want to be anal about it, a caliper). Picrel cost me 4 bucks at Ali, though
>>
>>2083763
>Shitty wrenches WILL round your bolts.
More like the other way around...
t. fpe
>Trueing table
It's called a bike ... You mount the wheel on the actual bike's fork/frame itself, and just true it there; not rocket science that'd require some specialized tool (which would cost you just a few dozen bucks on AliExpress, anyway)
>>
>>2084064
It is nice to have the wheel in a truing stand for the sake of working on it comfortably at the right height at a table
Though of course you are right that in-the-bike suffices

>>2084079
Flip the bike on it's handlebar and it's exactly the same as working on a trueing stand/table; you don't even need to remove the wheels or tires. Just cut a piece of cardboard or similar and mark it for reference, or just buy a cheap tool; picrel bottom costs 5 bucks, the others, a few dozen.
>>
>>2083770
Do it with an alloy handlebar. I needed a special drill bit from work to drill through the hardened steel.

this thing can do literally anything
>>
>>2084089
One of the best investments I ever made.
Like a crescent wrench but it doesn't round the fuck out of your bolts
>>
>>2084102
>>2084089
Based Knip bros, I stole mine from work like a nigger though
>>
>>2084119
I should do that
>>
>>2083758
put a rod in the middle and you've got a dishing tool too
