Ron Wyden, who is investigating Epstein’s finances and has claimed he doesn’t talk to his children about their businesses, brushed aside Bessent’s charge, saying: “Let’s be clear here, nobody is interested in the rambling of a capo in the most corrupt regime in American history. We want to get some facts about this deal, that’s what we’re here for.”“We would like to hear what Adam Wyden and Jeffrey Epstein talked about,” Bessent replied. “Did your son and Jeffrey Epstein talk about pole dancing as he begged him for money?”The exchange was one of many spiky moments in Bessent’s testimony, including when Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) asked the Treasury secretary about a report that he threatened to punch federal housing agency boss Bill Pulte “in the f–king face” at a private dinner with Trump officials.“No, sir,” Bessent replied. “I actually said I was going to kick his ass.”The secretary went on to downplay the argument, saying it happened “last summer” and that “many teams have fights in the locker room and then go out and win for the team.”Bessent added that he called Pulte Tuesday to congratulate him after he was appointed acting director of national intelligence, and he looked forward to working with Pulte on Iran and other issues.The treasury secretary also held his own when Sen. Pointing out to Bessent the two of them agree “that it is a conflict of interest for members of Congress to trade stocks,” Warren asked: “Do you also agree that it’s a conflict of interest for President Trump to trade stocks?”Bessent brushed off the question, telling Warren “President Trump is not sitting in the Oval Office engaging in a high-frequency training strategy. Clearly he had an outside manager who was doing that.” A spokesperson for the Trump Organization has said a third party manages the president’s accounts, as is common for elected officials to do in order to avoid any appearance of conflict. Bessent then fired his own shot at Warren, suggesting Congress “get their house in order before you move to the administration.”“How about we get the White House in order at the same time?,” Warren said before continuing her line of questioning.“Please lead by example,” Bessent insisted, to which Warren shot back: “I would like to see the President lead by example.”
