'VENICE, Fla. (WFLA) — Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Walmart in Venice Thursday morning after receiving a 911 call regarding a shooting.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the caller was at the Walmart, located at 4150 S. Tamiami Trail, when they heard a popping sound ring out.
The caller also reported seeing a trail of blood near the bathroom area at the front of the store.
Responding deputies evacuated the store, stating that no one was located inside the premises.
A short while later, an individual suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was located at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Campus in Venice
Deputies said that surveillance video from the Walmart showed a man entering the store with a holstered gun in the waistband of his shorts.
The video showed that while attempting to adjust the gun in the holster, the gun discharged and struck the man in the leg and groin area.
The sheriff’s office said that this appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.'
