Graham was appointed by Henry McMaster, South Carolina’s governor, to fill the remainder of her brother’s current term. Graham arrived in the Senate chamber, accompanied by Republican senators Tim Scott of South Carolina and Katie Britt of Alabama. Senator Chuck Grassley administered the oath of office – Darline placed her hand on a bible and pledged to “support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”. When she finished, the somber chamber broke into extended applause. Upon her swearing in, Darline, 62, made history as the first woman to represent South Carolina in the Senate. Moments later, she cast her first vote as a US senator to advance the $1.15tn annual defense authorization bill, though it failed in a 50-46 tally. Lindsey died on Saturday night, aged 71, after what his office called a “brief and sudden illness”. The chief medical examiner then preliminarily ruled on Sunday that he died of aortic dissection due to cardiovascular disease. With the backing of Donald Trump, Darline was swiftly appointed to serve the remaining months of his Senate term, which ends on 3 January. “Lindsey spent his whole life looking out for his sister, Darline, and it’s a wonderful tribute that she is now carrying his legacy of service across the finish line,” Scott, who became the senior senator from South Carolina after Lindsey’s death, said in a statement on Tuesday. “I’m honored to welcome Senator Graham to the Senate, and I look forward to working closely together to continue serving South Carolinians and building on the legacy of Lindsey Graham in the months ahead.” >>
Anonymous 07/14/26(Tue)18:30:14 No. 1523843 In brief remarks at a press conference on Monday, Darline said it was an “honor” to replace her older brother – who became her legal guardian after their parents died when she was a girl – in the Senate. She said he had always been there for her and vowed “now, I will be there for him.” “I promise to work hard over the next several months to support the president and carry forward the efforts of my brother on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina and the United States,” she said. “I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted, and I plan to honor him in this way.” At the time of his death, Graham was seeking a fifth Senate term, having won the Republican nomination only last month. The state GOP will hold a separate special election on 11 August to choose a new Senate nominee, who will face off against Democrat Annie Andrews in the November midterms. Darline has never held public office, but was a steady presence at her brother’s side, supporting his political career as his national profile grew. Since 2019, she has served as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, according to McMaster’s office. Before that, she held positions at Clemson University and in two South Carolina state agencies. A mother of two, she is married to Larry Nordone. According to the senator’s office, she will be addressed as Senator Graham. >>
Anonymous 07/14/26(Tue)18:51:40 No. 1523849 I'm sorry, what the actual fuck? How is this legal. Why is being appointed to the United States senate a hereditary position? Trick question, it isn't, get this bitch out of office and hold a special election. >>

Anonymous 07/14/26(Tue)19:22:37 No. 1523852 >>1523849 >I'm sorry, what the actual fuck? How is this legal. Literally no one cares anymore if what the government is doing is legal or not. Anyone who did care or had the power to put checks on this corruption was sacked long ago by the Trump admin. 90% of the media is controlled by right wing billionares so they'll barely cover this either. And if you complain about this your a tranny antifa terrorist that hates America.>>
Anonymous 07/14/26(Tue)19:59:14 No. 1523856 >>1523849 Don’t worry about it. Trump is POTUS and that automatically makes it legal>>

Anonymous 07/14/26(Tue)20:37:39 No. 1523859 >>1523849 It's literally state law that the they can just appoint anyone to the seat to finish the term and not have a special election because of the length of time until the next election. What fucking difference does it even make? She just voted yes for the Israel merger bill, which is the only reason the seat exists>>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)00:44:22 No. 1523897 >>1523842 the reactions in that pic tell you everything LMAO>>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)03:18:57 No. 1523912 As predicted in yesterday's thread. This won't work in Kentucky because they have a Democrat governor and the GOP will have a shit fit about it. But it's okay when it's a GOP governor because reasons. >>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)06:31:12 No. 1523921 >>1523859 The point of representatives is that they're representative of the people who elected them. Nobody elected this bitch, it's a fucking travesty nepotism is dictating our terrible policy, instead of the retarded voter base's terrible choices. I know this is just one more grain of sand on the mountain of democracy-undermining rubble, but no, this is against the country's foundational principals, it fucking matters, it's a fucking outrage there's not even any pretense the will of the people is being upheld. We literally became a country due to a dispute over representation. I don't fucking care if it follows the law, the law should be changed.>>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)09:09:45 No. 1523925 >>1523921 The people of SC elected state representatives who passed the laws that allow the governor to appoint a replacement. A lot of states have laws like this, they just don't get used very often.>>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)10:34:15 No. 1523928 Trump asked for this to happen from the SC Governor on twitter, and of course, he got it. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/trump-lindsey-graham-sister-darline-mcmaster-appoint-senate-term-rcna587302>The appointment came hours after Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that he had recommended that McMaster choose her for the temporary post, saying it would be “a fabulous tribute to Lindsey.” >>
Anonymous 07/15/26(Wed)10:55:06 No. 1523930 >>1523928 the governor would've done that anyway. Trump just can't help sticking his nose into everything at the state level, and then claiming credit for something that was gonna get done anyway.
