US President Donald Trump's likeness will soon be on yet another object - this time a $1 gold coin Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled on Wednesday.

It is to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States and is "to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism," Bessent announced on X.

A sample can be seen in the post. The US Mint would begin producing the coin, Bessent said, though it was initially unclear exactly when it would go on sale.

Earlier this month, Bessent shared on X a sample of a $100 note, uploaded by Trump, bearing the signatures of both the president and himself.

There are countless examples of projects, places and buildings bearing Trump's name. Most recently, the airport in Palm Beach, Florida, was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport. Its airport code was changed from PBI (Palm Beach International Airport) to DJT - the president's initials.

In the US, it is common for airports and other places to be named after former presidents, but it is unusual for buildings to be renamed while the president is still alive.

Observers see parallels between Trump's actions and the behaviour of autocrats.
