Burnham vows to ‘bring back hope’ as Britain’s new PM

https://www.politico.eu/article/andy-burnham-to-become-uk-prime-minister/

LONDON — Britain got (another) new prime minister Monday: Andy Burnham.

The former mayor of Greater Manchester — who succeeded Keir Starmer as leader of the U.K.’s governing Labour Party last week — will shortly start naming his top team after being asked to form a government by King Charles III.

Burnham is Britain’s sixth prime minister in the past decade alone, and his appointment comes as the governing Labour Party gambles that another change at the top will turn around a polling deficit at the hands of right-wing populist Nigel Farage.

In his first speech in the job — delivered without notes or the customary lectern that previous new prime ministers have used — Burnham promised action on the cost of living within days, and a 10-year plan for government to follow later in the year. He said he would immediately order officials to work to end rough sleeping in the U.K.

Andy Burnham has admitted he’s nervous about becoming prime minister.

Speaking to broadcasters this morning before he became PM, Burnham said, “it’s obviously a big thing, to step up in this way, but I think you’ve got to have a degree of [nervousness]. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be human.”

Burnham, who first became an MP in 2001, said he’s “been in politics a long time,” including nine years as Greater Manchester mayor, which will “make a difference in the way that I go about this role.”

He concluded: “Of course the nerves are there, but I’m also confident in what I’m doing, in what I’m about, and as I say, I am ready.”

Andy Burnham has emphasized his intention to rewire Britain and bring down living costs, but far less is known about how he will position himself on the world stage.

He even signaled during his by-election campaign that he wants to focus predominantly on the domestic agenda.

But he nodded to his new role as a statesman in his first speech as PM, declaring: “Britain needs to show the world that we can regain our stability once again.”

He will get a taste of just how large international affairs will loom in his premiership right away, with an expected briefing later today on renewed hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.

He will also begin to work through a list of calls with world leaders, starting with close allies including the U.S., Ukraine and France. Iran will likely feature in his conversation with Donald Trump — as will his policy on North Sea oil, where any equivocation is bound to disappoint the U.S. president.

Andy Burnham confirmed conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump will be among his “first calls.”

The new PM said he’ll be making it clear to Zelenskyy “there is no change. I will be with him 100 percent, as Keir Starmer has been,” adding Britain’s support “is steadfast, it is resolute, it will be there for him and I will be there for him personally too.”

Burnham’s conversation with the U.S. president may be dominated by energy after Trump posted on Truth Social Sunday the new PM “will be opening up, all the way, the invaluable North Sea oil!” His position is likely to be more nuanced.

ESL retard is feeling bullied. You're being mean to them.
Think of their poor mother being abused when ESL is raging over their ignorance
Think of their neighbors who have to deal with the constant crashes and screaming from ESL's filthy room.
You're causing a lot of people pain because you won't just accept ESL shills horseshit.

Why do you hate those people? Just let ESL shill win.

When a party gets elected then the vultures circle and want to take power for themselves
Also, Brexit & wokeness pretty much fucked the country

>Also, Brexit & wokeness pretty much fucked the country
as soon as conservatives open their mouths you should assume everything they say is about fucking the country. Brexit and wokism are no different.

When a party gets elected, they get a more left-wing leader with power as PM.
Also, Brexshit failed, and the likes of Nigel FaRAGE are fucked by an even more politically correct party in power and Count Binface

Nah, that was Liz Surgical Truss: and Conservative. She had no visual means of support, thus only lasted 50 days.
>380 out of 400+ Labour MPs supported Burnham
When nobody else bothered to run, that's how much support he has.
