Cases of leprosy are rising in Florida, with officials working to understand what's behind the spread of the rare 4,000-year-old bacterial infection.

Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, can impact a person's nerves, muscles, skin, eyes and respiratory tract, causing large bumps all over the skin and lead to paralysis and blindness.

Stigma surrounding infections has spread wider than the disease itself but the late Mother Teresa, a champion for the poor and disenfranchised, helped draw attention to the suffering caused by discriminatory attitudes.

Untreated patients infected with the bacteria, known as M. leprae, are believed to be the main source of infection, spreading the disease to other humans even months later, Florida health authorities say.

It may take up to 20 years after contact with the bacteria to develop signs of the disease. "Transmission requires prolonged close contact with someone known to be infected and not treated," the department said.

People who are in close contact with people who may be infected should seek out medical care for a blood or nerve test to see if they are affected.

>defund multiple agencies and programs dedicated to preventing and tracking pandemics both before and after they reach the US
>"man why do all these outbreaks keep happening"
Stupid games, stupid prizes, but even stupider people.

So a red state, entirely in Republican hands for over a decade, is having another public health crisis because MIGA are dumb plague rats who enjoy dying of treatable diseases.

ESL shill proceeds to get confused by a set of population heat maps because they're a gullible racist retard
https://map.motivasi.my.id/
>>
>>1528071
India has the largest population of lepores on earth and leprosy is common over there. Florida has been flooding itself with immigrants from India the past 5 years. Suddenly an ancient disease thats still common in India breaks out in the areas where you have the most India immigrants.

Thats causality.
>>
>>1528089
Retard Indians have been immigrating and traveling to the US for much longer than 5 years. The difference is now we have a crippled CDC that cares more about whatever random bullshit RFK read that week than actually preventing, treating, and monitoring infectious diseases. We broke the filter and are now shocked the water is dirty.

Donald J. Trump

There isn't a link to indians at all
The Leprosy cases are just tied to population centers, which makes sense because MIGA plague rats concentrate there and can spread the disease faster.
Turns out if you brainwash a part of your population into not trusting doctors, they start getting sick.

its good seeing them understand that they're a retard

Like always, it's armadillos. Armadillo populations are on the rise in Florida. You only get leprosy outbreaks when idiots start fucking with armadillos or pangolins.
>>
>>1528156
Nah its Indians. Even the article admits it isn't from the wildlife. An infected person can carry it for over 20 years without showing signs.

Patels move to Florida and of course bring along their entire family of 40 which includes the elderly who have had leprosy for decades.

Thats why you didn't see outbreaks 40 years ago. Only started when Indians began getting imported into Florida.
>>
i'm starting to think esl shill brought leprosy to Florida
I know its impossible because they don't have a visa or the money to visit the US, but maybe they spit on every American that visited their village or something
>>
>>1528162
Even for Indians, they only have it because they think pangolin scales are an aphrodisiac.
>>
its obviously due to democrats diets, I hope it spreads to blue states

Yes, this is trump aka republican's fault.

Its obvious that the indian immigrants are bringing it here.

it's obvious that you are never going to get a real job
>>
Well it is true India is incredibly unsanitary, and they have the largest number of leprosy victims IN THE WORLD. A world that for the most part irradicared leprosy.
>>
Florida should really be cut off from the rest of the US. Build a wall!
>>
>>1528063
>the late mother Teresa, a psychopathic cunt who believed suffering was holy and deliberately set up hospices designed to prolong victim's suffering before their (sometimes preventable) deaths. It's really fucking idiotic to praise her in this day and age, she was a fucking monster.
FTFY
>>
>>1528359
And Florida has been importing way more Indian immigrants in recent years. Not as many as Texas is doing but more than enough to cause a leprosy outbreak.

There will be more biological outbreaks caused by Indian immigrants. Some might even be intentional like the bioattack they did in 1984

>>
>>1528399

This happened in Oregon.
>>

Floridas own metrics confirm the cases originated in Florida
ESL shill is just having a meltie because Republicunts are dying and they don't have anything else to post
>>
>>1528403
Spreads from infected people. Immigrants from India are spreading it.
>>
>>1528435
This doesn't even line up with the OP graph. This originates from Indian immigrants but there's no outbreak in the biggest concentration of them?

Also Leprosy also spreads from armadillos native to Florida and the contaminated soil around their burrows. People getting it from touching armadillos? Unlikely. People getting it from touching soil the armadillos live in? Much more likely.
>>
>>1528444
Everyone knows leprosy is on the rise because MIGA are nasty little dirtgrubs who have been conditioned to hate science.

MIGA have also been conditioned to look for the most racist answer to any of their problems, which is good for the rest of us because it just accelerates their dying off
>>
>>1528449
Nah its the Indians
>>
>>1528063
>There are currently 17 cases of leprosy in Florida, state health data shows. Last year, Florida had 36 cases
WTF? On the rise means cut in half over the previous year? Who writes this shit?
Anyway, it's treatable with antibiotics these days so don't go celebrating deaths that will win you elections just yet piggies. The majority of new cases in the US stem from southern CA.
>Yay we're winning.
>>
>>1528527
it takes two years to treat, esl shill. and no, republicans are not winning when they get sick and die of preventable and/or biblical diseases, however much they may claim so
>>
>>1528528
>it takes two years to treat,
So its totally treatable and despite being quite novel is not really a big deal?
> republicans are not winning
This has literally nothing to do with politics. Sad how you've been absolutely oneshotted by CURRENT THING. Luckily, the treatment for your disorder (severe) is to (1) go outside and (2) build a meaningful life. This treatment, in a case as severe as yours, will likely last decades.

Conversational TKO.

t. Guy who spends 18 hours a day responding to every post on /news/ he doesnt like with "esl shill".

Lol. Lmao even.
>>
>>1528532
>So its totally treatable and despite being quite novel is not really a big deal?
Leprosy can cause permanent nerve damage even when treated. Complete loss of sensation; the reputation lepers have for missing limbs is less due to the disease itself taking them and more because the loss of sensation pretty much inevitably leads to the affected sites getting infected cuts that spiral because they don't notice until it's too late.

It is very much a "big deal" if you catch it. Nerve damage isn't a joke.
>>
>>1528540
are you always this proud of being too dumb for the conversation
>>
>>1528543
it's cute that you think i'm the only one making fun of you. you'd probably actually kill yourself if your delusions didn't sustain you, huh

Yeah.

t. guy who lives here.
>>
>>1528547
god you're esl
>>
>>1528544
Its relatively easy to detect.
>but the nerve damage
Generally how you detect it. A small part of your body loses sensation, you go to the Doc. They do a biopsy and holy shit you a leper son!
>>
>>1528548
>god you're esl
You're my fucking slave. The hour a week I spend on /news/ is the highlight of your long, long, week sitting here spamming refresh.
>>
esl shill is hilarious man
>>
>>1528550
>A small part of your body loses sensation
Yeah if you're already losing sensation that's not a good sign. Chances are you're now losing sensation in part of your body permanently.

Again, the man danger of leprosy now is that nerve damage leaves you incredibly vulnerable because it's hard to notice infected cuts you can't feel.
>>
>>1528553
I know I'm upsetting you when you stop replying to me. I need to reply, but you're too scared of what I may type back.

lmao dont get upset, its just words on a screen.
>>
>>1528546
>AI spambot admits it trolling
Well then...
>>
Are you MAGA retards seriously trying to argue that leprosy isn’t a big deal?
>>
>>1528565
>17 cases of a treatable illness
It's serious if not treated. But overall, it's super minor.
9 people a day die in car accidents.
17 people have a terrible disease if they neglect their health for any years.
Placing it on a scale, it's literally no big deal.
Of course, it's best to have zero cases. The odd thing about the article is it picked FL,
>>
>>1528565
yes, this is how far they have fallen
>>
>>1528572
>It's serious if not treated.
Again, even if treated it still risks permanent nerve damage. You do not want to catch leprosy even if you're in a country that can treat it immediately.
>>
>>1528576
OK, well, at 17 cases it's ridiculously rare and treatable.
What more do you want from me personally?
>>
>>1528578
what did your mother want from you? certainly not this
>>
>>1528578
>Guys it's just 17 cases of a very infectious disease
This mindset is how you wind up with 34 cases. Then 68. Then 136...
>>
>>1528565
>MAGA retards
Weird how you're making this not-political thing political.
>>
>>1528582
when you spam your wrong opinions it just makes you look more wrong esl shill
>>
>>1528583
>reply has nothing to do with my post
Who are you talking to?
>>
>>1528582
It was inherently political as FL isn't even the state with the highest yearly cases.
First comment on the article reads as follows:
>he bubonic plague will be next in FL. How fitting, as the goal of maga is to go back to The Dark Ages, and start burning witches again (ie anyone that is not maga enough).
And the cases of leprosy "rising" when they've been cut in half over last year? Interesting propaganda for boomerland.
>>
>>1528587
That's our resident lolcow. He thinks everybody that disagrees with him is the same person, unironically.

esl shill's desperate samefagging wasn't very effective...
