Oil prices rise after Saudi Arabia shut down critical pipeline that bypasses Strait of Hormuz

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/09/13/oil-price-iran-war-strait-hormuz-saudi-pipeline.html
>>
Crude oil prices popped on Sunday after Saudi Arabia closed its critical pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate
futures were up 2.89% to $102.94 per barrel by 12:27 a.m. ET. Brent
crude, the international benchmark, traded 2.82% higher to $107.56 per barrel.

Drones launched from Iraq damaged the East-West pipeline on Thursday, forcing the Saudi government to close the key crude oil artery. Riyadh has not disclosed how badly the pipeline is damaged or how long it will remain shut.

A diplomatic meeting between Iran and the Gulf Arab states to discuss the situation in Hormuz, originally scheduled to take place Monday in Oman, was abruptly postponed after the pipeline attack.
>>
In the interests of consensus the regional meeting set for tomorrow in Salalah has been postponed,” Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said Sunday in a social media post. “We remain committed to fostering dialogue that supports stability and lasting cooperation in our region.”

The security situation in Hormuz remains precarious with another tanker coming under attack Sunday resulting in a severe fire onboard, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center.

The Saudi pipeline, which can carry 7 million barrels per day, has played a key role in easing the severe oil supply disruption triggered by the Iran war. It spans the kingdom from East to West, connecting its oil producing regions near the Persian Gulf to export terminals on its Red Sea coast.

The Saudis have relied on the pipeline to shift crude oil exports away from the Gulf as the Iran and the U.S. battle for control over the Strait of Hormuz. The pipeline has played a more important role in stabilizing oil markets than the massive release of strategic reserves led by the United States, Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser said on the company’s August earnings call.
>>
Saudi Arabia has faced escalating attacks from Iran-allied militant groups in recent days. Houthi militants in Yemen struck energy facilities and other civilian assets in the kingdom early last week injuring more than 70 people, according to Saudi state media.

The Houthis have reportedly seized the strategic Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait after taking the port city of Mokha on Yemen’s Western coast. The advances would give the militants a stronger position to disrupt oil flows through the Bab el-Mandeb, which connects the southern Red Sea to global markets.

The Houthis declared a maritime embargo of Saudi Arabia in July.

It's too bad liggerals in the US and across the world continue to embolden Iran to hold out until the midterms.
Liggerals should be ashamed, but I believe the scientific consensus is that they are complete incapable of shame, thus why they continue being liggerals, despite all the case studies in history of liggeralism showing it's a defective ideology.
And when modern Normal people win, liggerals will claim the parties switched right then and there. The news media will parrot this, and Trump was actually a Democrat good guy all along, using his Trumping strategy to fool Republicans into...
Or whatever fantasies the gay fuckers will come up with.

Because Charolotte did it for the illegal immigrants, to ensure they could still speak Spanish, instead of German. Chralotte did it for the Ba'athist Arabs to bring socialism to the west. Charlotte ended the National Socialists tyrannical regime. Remember you're fighting for the economic zone, without a culture. Remember you're fighting for global capital! Those who chose...wisely. Does anyone find it weird that literally the only three countries that do anything is US, Iran and Yemen? Every other country has zero agency and is just accepting the lack of oil.

No international multiparty negotiations. No "don't shoot my shipping" deals with Iran. Just everyone accepting that Iran and Yemen get to close the straits.
>>
>>1536765
Because the reality is it would be easier to make the US fuck off than it would be to try fighting Iran and Yemen and risk them deciding to destroy the gulf desalination plants and fuck up the entire global oil supply. But of course no one wants to take action against the US for obvious reasons, so the best option is to just endure it until the US realizes this was stupid and fucks off.
>>
>>1536765
>>1536768
Also, it needs to be stated that Trump is HORRIFICALLY unpopular in foreign countries; turns out when you repeatedly insult your allies whose troops have died assisting the US in middle east endeavors in the past, those allies aren't exactly keen on supporting you. Not only are the troops themselves pissed because some of them literally know people who died helping the US, but this war is pretty much universally regarded as Trump and Trump alone's fuck up; assisting the US in this would mark you as a US proxy instead of a defensive ally and would be a political black mark on anyone who actually did it.

As for why they're not making deals with Iran either, they don't want to explicitly piss the US off either. Unpopular or not, it's still the fucking United States and maintains incredible power and influence, especially with Trump being known for being incredibly vindictive over any perceived slight (see the whole Lake Ontario situation and the times he's threatened tariffs over shit like Italy's leader not wanting to take a photo with him) so it's also in their best interest to not catch attention.

So the best option winds up being just do nothing and, like Iran ironically, wait until either the current US administration realizes this whole thing was stupid or for a new admin to come into power.
>>
>>1536765
Who would be crazy enough to help the US? Aside from a single district in the UK, helping the US is akin to political suicide.

Also how is that relevant to his foreign perception?
>>
>>1536790
foreign perception is clear: other countries rely on the US to a great extent. Trump is showing just how great that reliance is.

Any other country with a demented leader woudl either get an intervention or be ignored for four years or until he was out of office. Business as usual goes on without them until he's gone.

But world leaders are making deals with Trump that he breaks every week. Clearly, they need to deal with the US just to get by and cannot wait it out.

Plus they have no reason to actually like Iran either. After all, it's Iran that's fucking up all the trade with their indiscriminately attacking civilian shipping. Not to mention the decades of open support for terrorist groups around the world.
>>
>>1536840
Exactly. They don't wanna support Iran but they can't support the US because they know Iran either comes out of this conflict better or they take the entire oil industry with them. So the best option is to just sit back, wait for the US to fuck off, and hope Iran simmers down so they won't be paying too much of a tax to them from now on. Supporting neither is just the right play in this scenario because one side can't win but you don't want to actually support the other.

Obama could've ended this if he had some balls, instead he dropped pallets of cash on Iran which they immediately used to fund drones, proxies, and ballistic missiles.

The only reason gas prices are high in the civilized world is profiteering. America is not in any way dependent on Hormuz or the Saudis for its domestic supply, and Europe can open up the taps from American markets any time they wish as soon as they stop being colossal faggots about doing business with America instead of feeding the Russians war funds. In the like vein, those same civilized nations can put a stop to the profiteering by way of the gun at any point they wish.

The only people that this really impacts strategically are Asian and Middle Eastern, and none of them are people so it doesn't matter. Simple as.

>>
>>1536848
>Why are local gas prices the highest they've been in years?
Because the gas and oil companies are using world events as an excuse to drive up prices so they can make record profits. Otherwise known as profiteering. America has functional control of its own massive oil reserves plus the Venezuelan and Canadian ones, we don't need Middle Eastern oil.

>Global supply affects the global price
Yeah, but we don't have to be part of the global market, and the profit in doing so is quickly petering out as the global market is overcome by inflation brought on by the last 80 years of bad fiscal policy and socialist spending to no useful end. We're already seeing a number of nations, including the US, withdrawing more and more from global deals in favor of more domestic manufacturing and supply. 20 years from now, the global market will be a shadow of its former self, with large swathes of the Middle East non-functional as nations, China deep in a demographics crisis and Russia destroyed by falling on its own sword in Ukraine. What you're seeing now with the high prices is essentially the investor panic, people trying to squeeze out as much profit as they can before the whole thing goes tits up. It won't last.

>>
>>1536853
>>1536856
The fact you think oil will be remotely affordable with just the US supplying itself is laughable. I'll freely admit there's definitely some profiteering bullshit going on, but the point remains the US is only a net exporter of processes oil and we literally cannot produce enough raw crude on our own to be self sufficient. Things are they way they are for a reason; the Middle East's oil is the heavy crude our processing plants are designed to process, whereas ours are light oil we ourself ironically have limited ability to process.

We can't fuel ourselves without spending billions and decades retrofitting our entire oil refinery industry, and ironically if we did do that we'd be completely dependent on the middle east in the transitionary period anyway.

Plus oil will always be a global commodity, so the price can and will always be dependant on global supply anyways.
>>
>>1536869
Maybe gavin newscum should stop shutting down oil refineries across America. Either way expanding processing capacity in America is a good thing. Jobs. Tax revenue. Investment. The arabs got real rich doing what they do and now that moneys gonna go to American workers!

Shills are just really sensitive to billionaire needs, like stealing from America or fucking children, and want to make sure the billionaires get all they need
>>
>>1536896
To be fair, stealing from America should be everyone's concern, given that America is the sole bastion of human civilization surrounded by 7.5 billion fucking savages. If the rest of the world died of superplague tomorrow it would be an objective win for all mankind.
>>
>>1536901
The only thing you're right about is that it would be an objective win for mankind if you died of a superplague tomorrow.
>>
>>1536869
It doesn't matter whether or not oil is remotely affordable in the long term, we're transitioning over to a largely automated economy in which less and less people are going to have to commute. We merely need enough oil in circulation to take care of NEEDS, like government and military, normal people only need it insofar as they commute to work and everything else is pretty much optional.

As for the way the oil economy is set up, everything is based around incentives. The reason we have refinery capacity for other nations' crude is because the maximum profit is in selling domestic goods internationally and buying international goods for domestic consumption. In a future where the world recedes from global trade towards a more domestic model, you'd be opening up an absolutely massive amount of money and power to new players. Whomever builds, buys and owns domestic refinery capacity for domestic oil would essentially become the new oil barons, and someone is immediately going to jump on that train. If not the current companies, then they just open themselves up to being replaced by whomever takes advantage of the new market forces.

Just because something is a way right now doesn't mean its always going to be that way, the world is always changing. But the last thing anyone needs to be concerned with is prices for consumption with regards to average people - the majority of us aren't even needed on this planet, much less required to keep the economy afloat. What we do or don't do, or what we can or cannot afford, simply doesn't matter.
>>
>>1536846
It's a global market. A supply disruption increases prices everywhere, regardless of if your particular market uses that supply route. That's how economics works.
You have been told this over and over and fucking over again.
>>
>>1536905
>Its a global market
It doesn't have to stay that way.

>Prices increasing everywhere
It literally CAN'T stay that way. The economy can't scale itself up when people categorically can't afford to buy more goods year on year. Eventually either prices will have to decrease to allow more consumption or wages will have to increase, which will cause more inflation.

>That's how economics works
Economics is not a hard science. Its predicated largely on Sociology and Psychology, it has more to do with hype and feelings than actual circumstance or substance. Thusly, it is quite easy to manipulate for private actors, or outright change for nations. There are people who thought that the French Franc would be the primary currency of the world for the next thousand years, but those people didn't see the Euro coming. The very idea that Europe would confederate would have been absolutely unthinkable to the French of just 300 years ago, fighting and dying against other Europeans for control of the continent. In the same vein, you may not even recognize the economy of twenty years from now.

What we do know is that the economy we have now isn't working. Inflation is completely out of control, the world peace is being disrupted by thirdies demanding independence from human civilization E.G. China, Russia, India, terrorism and extremist sentiment are on the rise everywhere. Things have to change in large and uncompromising ways in order to restore normalcy, its just that nobody knows exactly how or when.

To be entirely fair, this entire planet is basically US Soil, the rest of you just live here. I'm not sure why everyone has this wild idea of reciprocal treatment when they're really less of allies and more vassal states who don't realize it yet. They can bitch and hem and haw and refuse to kiss the ring all they want, it doesn't change that they're all completely dependent on the US markets and the US military for their very survival.
>>
>>1536907
>It doesn't have to stay that way.
I agree. We should switch to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, like solar and wind and nuclear. Fuck oil.
However, right now, it's still a global market and prices are high because Donny bombed Iran. No amount of cope will change that.
>>
>>1536912
That's why everything is going according to your plans, eh?
>>
>>1536913
Fuck cleaner and more sustainable, just start dumping in China or the Middle East and call it good. The planet is really only here for us to extract resources from until we're eventually able to leave. As for sustainable, well, conquering other nations and laying claim to their resources will cover that nicely. We don't need to worry about the crude facsimiles pretending to be human beings living there because we don't really need 'em.

Setting back human civilization with the idea that we need to be clean or sustainable is luddite thinking. The planet will be fine even if we turn every livable biosphere into smoldering radioactive glass, and humanity will be fine if we mine it clean of every usable resource as long as we can bootstrap enough progress to leave and find other planets before that happens. There's absolutely no reason we need to go backwards to preserve all the screeching thirdies or the retarded meat creatures wandering around in the forests. Just turn the whole thing into consumable resources, simple as.

>>
>>1536904
>we're transitioning over to a largely automated economy in which less and less people are going to have to commute.
Yeah so you fundamentally don't understand high gas prices matter for more than just "how much it takes to fill up my tank to get to work."

You do realize that we need fuel to transport ANYTHING, right retard? And if fuel is more expensive, it'll increase the prices of everything else by proxy?

> Whomever builds, buys and owns domestic refinery capacity for domestic oil would essentially become the new oil barons, and someone is immediately going to jump on that train. If not the current companies, then they just open themselves up to being replaced by whomever takes advantage of the new market forces.
Again this is effectively assuming we can just transition to entirely domestic oil production, which we can't without having to effective tear apart and rebuild our current capacity.

>But the last thing anyone needs to be concerned with is prices for consumption with regards to average people - the majority of us aren't even needed on this planet, much less required to keep the economy afloat. What we do or don't do, or what we can or cannot afford, simply doesn't matter.

We're human beings, we'll survive. Fuck off with the doomer shit, dude. 1972's gas prices didn't stick and neither will these, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't commit to utterly obliterating every power in the Middle East to make sure this never happens again, like we should have done back then to avoid what's happening today. If we want, we can laser a giant facsimile of Trump into the Moon so that we see his face in the sky every night, we simply haven't or don't want to. Such is the way with a transition to domestic oil - it'll happen when we want it to or need it to or both, we simply need to cut the global market off in order to create a need, which is fine since the global market doesn't want to cooperate properly with US Dominance anyway.

Actually we could've easily avoided what is happening today by not deciding to go to war with Iran. It was an incredibly stupid decision that every admin before this one recognized was incredibly stupid. And this "things change all the time" mindset doesn't excuse making shortsighted disastrous decisions that will instead result in us looking back at this in a few decades and going "wow, what the FUCK were we thinking?" on par with shit like prohibition.

>There's no need to be a screeching faggot about it, we simply don't have to co-exist with the arabs when we could just kill them all.
You really seem to be under the impression we could just destroy the middle east and it wouldn't result in a global economic crash that likely will set us back to the dark ages at least, and outright apocalyptic WW3 at most.

>Again, we're human beings, we CAN do whatever the hell we want to do. I don't think so. The very fact that this place even exists means that quite a lot of people agree with me. (You) don't, but that's really just your failing as a person.

oh so basically "yeah this will crash the economy but like it was going to happen anyway so at least I can fulfill my supremacist fantasies even though it'll make the situation far worse"

>The very fact that this place even exists means that quite a lot of people agree with me
This isn't /pol/. Maybe you should go back to your echo chamber where you can pretend that saying this IRL wouldn't result in instant mockery from everyone around you.
>>
>>1536941
>wouldn't result in instant mockery from everyone around you.
So if they're a retarded humiliation fetishist getting off on you making fun of them, they should keep doing exactly what they're doing?
>>
>>1536941
Jesus fucking christ, could you think about the world in macrocosm and not just your own greedy little self for half a second? Whether the economy is good or bad for YOU does not mean that the economy is going to be bad forever. Everything recovers, the question is as to what we're accomplishing during the time we have here and now.

Objectively, a great many improvements for the human race have existed off the back of invading, displacing and enslaving browns for the better good of civilization. Its not a supremacist fantasy, the Western nations don't have to fantasize about being objectively better. It would simply be better for all of us citizens if we collectively resolved to make the world a better place instead of whining about gas prices. The gas prices will recover eventually regardless, get over yourself.

>But my life is le hard!
So what? A great many generations may be given drastically improved lives by eradicating the Middle East. You may make the world a better place in perpetuity once they no longer have a place to continue to exist and you could argue that our ancestors did us a disservice by not going all the way the last time the Arabs caused a spike in gas prices.

>This isn't /pol/
This isn't reddit you troglodyte. You need to go back.
>>
>>1536954
>Everything recovers
not everything, you're still a whiny bitch throwing a meltie because you kept getting called out as a retarded esl shill
>>
>>1536954
Fucking based post
>>
esl shill is talking to himself again
>>
>>1536960
I invited a few of my friends to start posting here. You're going to notice they don't talk like I do. They still might call you a liggeral though
>>
esl shill is pretending to have friends, LOL
>>
>>1536964
Says the person pretending multiple people are the same guy you call "ESL shill"
>>
>>1536954
>Guys the economy will recover eventually so it's perfectly fine if I keep doing retarded genocidal polices that will only make things worse until we stop doing them
Meds.

>>1536958
Stop talking to yourself also.
>>
>>1536963
>btfoed so bad you have to call friends/sockpuppets for backup

>>
>>1536964
>>1536974
I think the morning shift started and the weekday esl shill crew are back on the clock.
>>
I think ESL shill's mom invited Uncle Hector over for naked screaming practice in her room again
>>
>your country
>not "my country"
There you have it. Even 1536780 admits to being a foreign esl shill. And therefore is irrelevant and all its opinions go into the trash. No wonder it isn't taken seriously in /news/.
>liggeral
Keep saying this retarded word over and over again.
>ligger
It suits that which freeloads from the English language because it has no US citizenship of its own. And a reminder:
>>1529518
>>1529639
The esl shill is a liar. It suits the esl shill.
>>
>>1536993
>Even 1536780 admits

Why are you incapable of quoting a comment correctly? Every comment I see of yours has this glaring error.
>>
Why is 1536997 incapable of knowing how to deny others of '(You)'s?
Every comment I see which points out this glaring error proves that 1536997 is a newfag.
>>
>>1536786
>Shame
To be fair it's like because they don't want liggeral brownshirts punching them or setting their shit on fire.
>>
>>1536999
god you're esl
>>
>>1537000
1536999 already has black-uniformed SS: >>1536995, so no wonder that which freeloads from the English language is scared of what happens after the midterms, certainly when there's a Democrat administration after that.
>brownshirts
>what the esl shill's beloved ICE-IS terrorist group is reduced to: attacking those who want to join the US Marines, thus the esl shill is a foreign migger agent
The esl shill is afraid of living in interesting times when there's a Democrat administration after an election in late 2028? Well, if it can't take being persecuted, it and it's sacred ICE-IS terrorist group never had the right to dish it out in the first place.
>>
>>1536986
>invited Uncle Hector over for naked screaming practice in her room again
why do they have to be naked when practicing?
>>
>>1536998
