But he is known to be particularly fond of Ms Harp, who has earned the nickname of “the human printer” because she is responsible for handing him printouts of news reports or other important information.CNN had been scheduled on Monday to be the “TV pool” camera crew, which is responsible for following the president and broadcasting his engagements to all networks.The pooled coverage duty rotates among the major news networks, which then share the footage with each other.CNN was removed from its pooled coverage responsibilities following Mr Trump’s ban.But the other news networks in the pool – Fox News, NBC, ABC and CBS – decided not to provide a replacement in solidarity with CNN, marking a major escalation in the feud between Mr Trump and the media.“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organisation because it objects to its reporting,” a joint statement from the five networks said.An email sent to TV pool subscribers on Monday said: “Effective today, the TV pool will not be covering events designated as pool coverage of the president,” according to CNN.
The footage is not only shared with the other major networks, but also local affiliates and international outlets, meaning the decision not to follow the president has major implications for coverage of the White House.Kaitlin Collins, CNN’s chief White House correspondent, said on the network on Monday that it meant “when the president does anything today, there will be no TV camera with the president that is broadcasting and sharing this footage”.CNN, Politico and MS NOW also announced on Monday that they were filing a lawsuit against Mr Trump over the ban.He had declared the ban “as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ fake news”.Reporters had their press passes deactivated and were not able to access their workspaces inside the White House, and broadcasters were forbidden from using their television equipment on the grounds.In a joint statement, the media outlets said they had informed the government that they would file a lawsuit on Monday and that emergency hearings could take place as early as this week.“Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists’ credentials because it objected to our reporting,” they said.“Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference.”Politico is part of the Axel Springer group, alongside The Telegraph.The ban marked a clear escalation of Mr Trump’s long-running efforts to restrict news coverage by journalists he finds objectionable.Writing on Truth Social on Friday, the president said: “Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”

Instead, in 2024, federal agencies spent more than $8m subscribing to Politico to use its services for legislative and policy tracking.
