Anonymous Trump’s powerful new friends a(...) 10/02/26(Fri)15:02:01 No. 1540643 https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6124669-trump-xi-mamdani-gop-concerns/ President Trump’s appearances with Chinese President Xi Jinping, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) and leaders from Silicon Valley risk turning off his political base just as Republicans are seeking to turbocharge turnout ahead of the midterms, say GOP strategists. The president has always loved meeting with the powerful, even if they are dictators or democratic socialists, as it makes headlines and highlights his own stature. Trump was the first president to meet with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, and he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin last year. He had a memorable buddy-buddy term in the Oval Office with Mamdani last November, even as his party sought to vilify the liberal mayor. To many Republicans, the latest meetings are a danger. “Frankly, it’s inexplicable,” one unnamed Republican strategist said. “Not because as president you shouldn’t meet with the Chinese president or event the mayor of New York, but given their toxicity with the base that you were desperate to try to turnout at higher than normal levels to try and offset your vulnerabilities with every other layer of the November turnout populace.” “You need to fire up your base and instead you’re kind of deflating them in the homestretch,” the strategist added. Trump hosted his Chinese counterpart last week for a lavish state visit at the White House. That meeting came after Mamdani hosted Trump at Gracie Mansion in New York City. On Tuesday, Trump invited several tech leaders to the White House for a luncheon on artificial intelligence before appearing with them on the White House North Lawn for an impromptu news conference. Polling shows that the president’s base views China with skepticism. >>
Anonymous 10/02/26(Fri)15:02:22 No. 1540645 A July public opinion survey released by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs found that only 36 percent of MAGA Republicans said the U.S. “should undertake friendly cooperation and engagement with China” and that 63 percent said the U.S. should “actively work to limit the growth of China’s power.” Influential MAGA figures such as former Trump adviser Steve Bannon have referred to leaders in Big Tech as “oligarchs” and have warned against unchecked artificial intelligence and data centers. As for Mamdani, MAGA and non-MAGA Republicans have sought to make the New York City mayor the face of the democratic socialist movement as they seek to paint Democrats across the board as far left and extreme. The GOP effort has made Trump’s publicly warm relationship with Mamdani more eyebrow raising. Still, polling shows there is somewhat of a populist overlap when it comes to both leaders’ bases. Nine percent of 2024 Trump voters in New York City who voted in last year’s mayoral election said they backed Mamdani, according to NBC News exit polling. Trump’s longtime pollster and adviser John McLaughlin noted the base has not warmed to Mamdani and Xi and views the tech industry with skepticism but said the president’s voters acknowledge the meetings are a part of his job. “Trump voters absolutely don’t like Mamdani or Xi and they don’t like it when Big Tech censors us or the way they bias their news against Trump,” McLaughlin told The Hill. The pollster described the base’s views of the president’s meetings with Xi and Mamdani as “a necessary evil” and noted the base views tech leaders differently. “As for Big Tech, some leaders they like, for example Elon [Musk]. Others like [Mark] Zuckerberg, who censored us in 2020 and helped [former President] Biden with drop boxes and mail-in ballots, they still don’t trust. However, the base remains rock solid in their support of President Trump and his goals,” McLaughlin said. >>
Anonymous 10/02/26(Fri)15:03:22 No. 1540646 Others have described the base’s view of Trump’s meeting with the leaders as purely strategic. “The base sees this as Trump putting his personality to use to try and win people over, and get them to come to his viewpoint,” said Brendan Steinhauser, a Republican strategist. “They don’t trust those folks. They don’t believe that the president should give any ground to them generally, but they do sort of think that he’s putting on a charm offensive,” he continued. Steinhauser also noted that Trump has a history of charming some of those he disagrees with, noting that Trump invited Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei to dinner at the White House Sunday evening after the tech leaders had voiced concerns about deregulating artificial intelligence. When asked if there are concerns about how the president’s base views the meetings, a White House official said Trump “is always working on making good deals for the American people.” Polls show Trump remains popular with his base. An NBC News Decision Desk poll released last month showed Trump’s approval rating with MAGA supporters at 93 percent. Meanwhile, an Economist/YouGov poll released last month showed Trump with a 91 percent approval rating among MAGA voters, 79 percent among Republicans, and 75 percent among voters who supported him two years ago. “No one can dispute the fact that President Trump has created one of the most robust coalitions in political history with the MAGA movement, and the President understands how to communicate with them,” said White House spokesperson Davis Ingle, referring to Trump as the “the unequivocal leader, best messenger, and unmatched motivator for the Republican Party.” When asked whether his meetings with Xi, Mamdani and the tech leaders would depress the base, Steinhauser said Trump’s meetings with Big Tech could potentially be a drag on the base. >>
Anonymous 10/02/26(Fri)15:04:22 No. 1540647 “The base knows and dislikes those Big Tech companies and leaders. That can be tied more directly to policies they don’t like,” Steinhauser said. “There’s just a different, visceral reaction because the tech stuff is so tied to specific concerns that they have right now about the data centers, the financial bubble related to all of that, threats to their own jobs and well-being in a much more direct way,” he said. >>
Anonymous 10/02/26(Fri)15:40:49 No. 1540650 Trump is on his last fuck, which has a shelf life of exactly one month The second midterms are over, he's going to show the MIGA cattle who have worshipped him for a decade how little he thinks of them Of course, they'll still love him anyway, even as they do now while he actively fucks them over. But the humiliation ritual will reach its final form. >>
